Abstract The aim of the study is to develop a methodology for assessing the effectiveness of the regional infrastructure facilities to support scientific, technical and innovation activities, taking into account the synergy effect. The article analyses methods existing in Russia and other countries and identifies their benefits and drawbacks. Based on the analysis conducted, the authors have determined a list of indicators characterising this area, developed a system for calculating the integral indicator, identified a list of regions that provided for the most objective assessment and testing of the developed methodology, and drew conclusions based on the calculations results. As a result, the effectiveness and perspectiveness of the developed methodology have been indicated. Even though the composite index is in the stability zone, its individual components may be in the zone of catastrophic risk and contain potential threats to further innovative development of a region. At the same time, it has been determined that regulatory support, as well as closed nature of the innovation cycle (synergy effect) play an important role in the efficient functioning of the infrastructure for supporting scientific, technical, and innovation activities.

Abstract The cost of housing construction tends to continue to increase and various efforts have been made to reduce the cost of building special houses. One of the technologies chosen in the construction of special houses with a fast process is to use a fabricated modular construction system. The purpose of this research is to produce a technical design for the Special House as a reference in the optimal and efficient physical construction of the Special House. Research and development research methods by way of assessing and testing a product. Product assessment and testing were carried out on 11 manufacturers who fit the criteria and have produced prefabricated / precast houses. After the implementation of primary data collection, it was concluded that there were 8 Manufacturing Modular Construction systems that were likely to be optimally applied to special home products. The conclusion of the research is based on an assessment matrix from the aspects of the work system, time to work, the number of workers, financial, social and cultural as well as zoning, which get the highest score, namely Steel as the main structure. Steel has been tested for its structural strength and can produce quite a number of building material components.

AbstractLanguage teachers’ assessment literacy has been a much debated subject in the educational arena recently. Teachers’ assessment knowledge base and skills, important aspects of their assessment literacy, have been extensively investigated at the school level; however, the research on this subject in the tertiary EFL context remains underdeveloped. This study reports findings of tertiary EFL teachers’ assessment literacy in terms of their assessment knowledge base in the context of Saudi Arabia. The study is informed by sociocultural theoretical background, with pragmatism as the philosophical underpinning. It uses an adapted instrument called Classroom Assessment Literacy Questionnaire, and the data are obtained from 80 questionnaire respondents. The statistical analysis of the data revealed that tertiary EFL teachers’ current assessment knowledge base is very limited and not consistent with the contemporary trends and approaches to educational assessment in terms of their preparation and readiness for the continuously mounting challenges posed by classroom-based assessments. These results indicating gaps and inadequacies in tertiary EFL practitioners’ assessment literacy have strong implications for teacher development in the area of assessment and testing at the level of policy, practice and professional development programmes.

These studies, in multiple fields, use many statistical analysis techniques and practices for these current studies. Some of these researchers like to be attributed to quantitative studies. Investigators are therefore intensely sharply divided, and they start competing to point out the advantages of their very own preferred techniques and technologies. However, both techniques and technologies possess pros and cons for all research teams. The objectives of this research are to know the advantages and disadvantages of using statistical research methodology for language measurement and evaluation. Focusing on ethical considerations, this study also found some strong points in the use of grounded theory for language assessment and research testing, such as the generation of more in-depth insights into the design, management, and interpretation of assessment and testing; and the exploration of behaviour, perceptions, feelings, and ability to understand of test subjects. A few other weak points are, for instance, smaller sample sizes and time-consuming quantitative research methods. However, on the other hand, they involve a large sample size and therefore do not necessitate a sufficiently long time to conduct.

AbstractThis paper presents the findings of a study which aimed at exploring the washback of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) English examinations on English teaching and learning practice at secondary schools in Bangladesh. For this purpose, a qualitative research (employing interviews with English teachers, FGDs with students and classroom observations protocol) was conducted in 12 secondary schools. The results from data analysis indicate that the SSC English tests had strong negative washback on English teaching-learning practice at secondary schools resulting from a lack of a congruence between the objectives of the curriculum and the format of the tests, teachers’ lack of adequate understanding about the curriculum and present assessment system, respondents’ negative attitudes towards the test, and pressure from the schools and the parents to ensure good grades in the final examination. Consequently, teachers and learners adopted such teaching and learning approaches which are highly examination-oriented. The study puts forward some suggestions on how positive washback could be generated. The findings of the study have implications for the decision makers, designers of curricula, assessment and testing, teachers, and teacher trainers involved in the Bangladeshi educational system and elsewhere.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, assessment and testing processes have been shifted to an online environment. Therefore, this unexpected shift requires more recent research in the field of online assessment. Based on this requirement, the present research aimed to explore female EFL students’ perceptions of an online English achievement exam by focusing on these dimensions: availability and accessibility, instructions, and mode of delivery. The participants were preparatory year students at the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Jeddah. To serve the research aim, the research used a mixed-methods approach. Students (n =49) participated in the quantitative phase by answering an online survey and 2 students were interviewed in the qualitative phase. The quantitative data revealed that the students had a positive perception of the online exam availability, accessibility, instruction, and mode of delivery. More particularly, the qualitative data explained that the clear online exam instructions and suitable mode of delivery have significantly improved these positive perceptions.
