Abstract The article provides an experimental substantiation of the use of sludge as an opacifier and the use of its recirculation during sedimentation of suspended matter in horizontal sedimentation tanks. Based on the theory of agglomeration of suspended solids (Kalitsun V.N., and Laskov Yu.M.), the agglomeration coefficients can be calculated for treating water with one reagent and when using sludge recirculation for natural water purification.

Abstract. The availability of land and the climatic conditions encouraged by the geographical situation of Morocco, have pushed this country to adopt since the 90s natural leaning as being the technical solution most suited to the economic and climatic context, thus, many treatment stations wastewater has already been carried out. In order to assess the performance of the natural lagoon-type treatment plant in the town of Outat El Haj, we studied the physicochemical parameters of the raw and purified water from the plant. For this, we carried out a set of measurements such as: Temperature, pH and Electrical Conductivity (EC) (parameters on site), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Suspended Solids (TSS), Dissolved Oxygen, Hydrotimetric Titer (TH), Cl- Chloride, Organic Matter (OM), Orthophosphates, and Nitrates, in order to examine the reliability of this purification process in the study area. The purification yields observed in the treatment plant vary from 23 to 94.6% as an abatement for BOD5. This average yield varies between 22.3 and 89.8% for COD, between 22.6 and 90.6% for OM, and between 9.2 and 65.5% for suspended matter (suspended matter). The purification performance is negative to very low in nitrogen and Orthophosphates. The results of the analyzes showed that the purification yields of the natural lagoon-type station, low, variable and remain dependent on the season.

The paper describes the widespread types of filtering materials and their specifications. It is shown that a filtering material is characterized by a number of parameters influencing both operating parameters of filtering systems and the efficiency of conditioned natural water purification. Changing these parameters, it is possible to predetermine the operating parameters of filtering systems and the quality of purified water. At a design stage of filtering systems it is necessary to determine the effective parameters of the filtering material, such as the height of the working layer, fineness and heterogeneity of fractions, and filtration rate to achieve the high quality purified water. It is shown that the finer fraction of the filtering material allows to increase the filtration rate preserving the quality of obtained water and, respectively, the productivity of filtering systems due to the increased specific surface of grains despite the increase in the load resistance and pressure losses.

Abstract The current widespread practice of disposal of water filtration plant wastes by direct discharge to receiving waters is coming under critical review by regulatory agencies. Among the alternatives for management of these wastes is the possibility of disposal to sanitary sewer systems. Since a recent nation-wide survey had established alum sludge as the most common waste generated by filtration plants, research was initiated to study the effects of water plant alum sludge on primary sewage treatment. A pilot primary sewage treatment plant was constructed and operated with a raw sewage feed of five litres per minute. A laboratory jar test program was conducted to supplement pilot plant operation. Sludges from two different water purification plants were tested along with alum and combinations of alum and water purification plant sludge for their effects on the removal of suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and phosphates. The data showed jar testing to be a good indicator of pilot plant performance. Suspended solids, COD and phosphate removal efficiencies were improved by the addition of the sludges. The phosphate removal capacity of water treatment plant alum sludge was approximately the same as that reported for aluminum hydroxide, or about 1/7 to 1/9 of that determined for alum (as Aluminum). Recycling of the sludges improved phosphate removal performance.

It nas been proved that planting various aquatic vascular plants with proper arrangements of time and space in tne eutropnic water of tne Cao Yang Round Creek nas formed an effective and stable ecological system for purifying water. Within two years, the water quality of the Round Creek has been improved significantly. The density of algae (content of chlorophyll a) has dropped by 95%, the total suspended solids is decreased by more tnan 90%, and COD is also reduced by 50%. The transparency of the water has increased from 15cm Before treatment to 53cm after treatment. Some parts of tne Creek are clear enough to see the bottom, to count tne fish. At the same time, beautification and planting of plants on the water surface has been carried our, together with the purification of the water. In this way, tne sightseeing value of water body is also increased. The paper intends to probe an efficient way of harnessing the eutropnic water By practicing witn purification, Deautification and plant planting all at one time.

The article emphasizes that the proposed method of natural water purification with natural sorbents is more effective than purification with artificial sorbents. This will give the opportunity not only to get rid of contaminants, but also disinfect and enrich water with natural chemical elements.

Within one year on the water of the river Don were conducted pilot tests of bio-sorptional-membrane installation, allowing to reduce the content of organic substances in drinking water. Thus, reducing the efficiency of COD concentration in the bio-sorptional-membrane reactor averaged 44.8%, the chroma - 59.1%, permanganate oxidation - 31.2%. The high degree of water purification has been obtained and turbidity was 95-96%. The results showed that the bio-sorptional membrane technology is a promising way to improve the process of natural water purification, in particular, to prevent the formation of chlorinated and brominated compounds in the chlorination of water.
