Current Trends in Successful International M&As

The worldwide landscape of merger and acquisition (M&A) activity has changed dramatically in the past decade. Acquirers, acquisition trends, and the strategies behind those transactions now differ dramatically. Acquisition success rates also appear to be different, with recent research indicating that international acquisitions are more successful than they were previously. Successful acquiring is a complicated combination of melding systems and employees in an environment of cultural contrasts. Successful acquisitions on an international level require financial rigor and discipline combined with an understanding of human behavior and motivation. This chapter examines both the changing trends and the key success factors for M&As in terms of financial inputs and behavioral elements to better understand the complex M&A process and indicators for future success.

Over the last decade the health consciousness of consumers has become an important factor driving the agri-food market .Healthier food products have entered the global markets with force in the past years and rapidly gained market share. Various studies have concluded that better understanding of consumer perception of healthy food its determinants are key success factors for market orientation and development and for successfully negotiating market opportunities .The basic purpose of this research paper is to identify the influence of various factors on the buying decision of consume and also attempts to determine the awareness and perception of the consumers.

Summary The basic goal behind any action undertaken in an organization management is the will to achieve success. Key (or critical) success factors are the organization’s resources, competence and qualification that create its competitive advantage on a particular market at a given time, and are able to determine its possible future success. The aim of this article is the analysis of the discrepancies between the factual and perceived key success factors of the social service organizations. The results point to the management of social services organisations not possessing enough knowledge about the factors responsible for the success of the entities they manage. This signifies the need to equip the management of the social services organisations with a theoretical background and practical knowledge which will allow them to manage with the expected results.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify forces (in the form of converters and inhibitors) of Lean Six Sigma adoption by studying the gradual adoption of Lean Six Sigma in a medium-sized Swedish manufacturing company. The paper suggests how the converters and inhibitors interact toward increased maturity of the adoption and, in this case, stagnation thereof. Design/methodology/approach – Thirteen interviews were recorded and analyzed to identify converters that were moving the process forward or backward, as well as inhibitors that caused it to linger. Findings – It was discovered that activities that had initially moved the process forward were not sufficient to move it beyond its current point. However, an increased knowledge of Lean Six Sigma throughout the organization now prevents the process from moving in the opposite direction. In this medium-sized Swedish manufacturing company, Lean Six Sigma becomes a framework for thought and communication during Lean work. Research limitations/implications – The study benefited from considering forces pushing the process forward as well as backward. Thus, the authors suggest that future studies will benefit from focusing beyond critical success factors that may at times are static in nature. As a limitation, for discussions about the past, the memories of interviewees, generally, may have a tendency to be biased. Originality/value – The paper contributes knowledge of Lean Six Sigma adoptions and how they may attain greater future success by reporting on difficulties and setbacks in the current gradual adoption process in a chosen company.

In einer Expertenumfrage ermittelte das Fraunhofer Institut für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation (IAO) die Trends, Erfolgsfaktoren und Ziele der F&E-Bereiche in produzierenden Unternehmen.   The increase of digitization has brought new challenges and responsibilities for employees and managers working in research and development (R&D). The Fraunhofer IAO conducted an expert survey of R&D departments at manufacturing companies in order to determine current trends, key success factors and objectives in this field.

Due to the overuse of the environment and natural resources, our environment has suffered long-term damage and natural disasters have been exacerbated by climate change, resulting in a significant impact on people’s livelihood and security. People must consider saving the environment as everyone’s responsibility. Hence, Environmental consciousness should be promoted to inspire public participation. This study used the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to identify the key success factors of social marketing in promoting environmental consciousness. The DEMATEL method has been proven highly effective in gathering the views of experts and thereby providing information of greater reliability in many areas. The results of this research suggest that “Take advantage of existing successful campaign”, “Using appropriate media channel to increase the participation”, and “Enhancing campaign success by appropriate research” are the main strategies for promoting environmental consciousness. The findings of this study may be used in future success factor evaluations where social marketing is compared with other measures aiming to increase the efficiency of the campaign.

This paper deals with financial analysis of selected Welspun Corp Ltd steel industry in India. The result shows that the performance of Welspun Corp Ltd was better as compare to financial performance. Even in basic Sales, Expenses and profit of Welspun Corp. Ltd. performed well.

The number of reported natural disasters has increased steadily over the past century and risen very sharply during the past decade. These bring about the loss of lives, property, employment and damage to the physical infrastructure and the environment. Disaster management efforts aim to reduce or avoid the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster, and achieve rapid and effective recovery. While knowledge management can enhance the process of disaster management, there is a perceived gap in information coordination and sharing within the context of disaster management. Identifying key success factors will be an enabler to manage the disasters successfully. In this context, this study aims to identify and map key knowledge success factors for managing disasters successfully through capturing the good practices and lessons learned. The objective of this paper is to present the literature findings on factors which support successful disaster management. Accordingly the identified factors were classified into eight main categories as technological, social, legal, environmental, economic, functional, institutional and political. Nors žiniu vadyba nelaimiu valdymo procesui gali padeti, nelaimiu valdymo kontekste pastebima spraga tarp informacijos koordinavimo ir dalijimosi ja. Nustačius pagrindinius sekmes veiksnius, tai leis sekmingai valdyti nelaimes. Šiame kontekste tyrimu siekiama nustatyti ir surūšiuoti pagrindinius žiniu sekmes veiksnius, leidžiančius sekmingai valdyti nelaimes, užfiksuojant geraja patirti ir išmoktas pamokas. Šio darbo tikslas – pateikti literatūros išvadas apie veiksnius, kurie prisideda prie sekmingo nelaimiu valdymo. Nustatyti veiksniai atitinkamai suklasifikuoti i aštuonias pagrindines kategorijas: technologiniai, socialiniai, teisiniai, aplinkos, ekonominiai, funkciniai, instituciniai ir politiniai.

Abstract The driving force behind our internet economy is demand-side economies of scale, also known as network effects. These arise when users create value for other users and are enhanced by technologies that create efficiencies in social networking. While resource control and supply side efficiency used to be key success factors in the past, building platforms, orchestrating networks and managing relationships determine success in an increasingly digital world. Successful platforms seek to maximize the overall value of the whole system in a circular, revolving and feedback-driven process. By attracting more platform participants they are able to offer a higher value. The larger the network, the better the matches between supply and demand and the richer the data that can be used to find matches. Successful platforms put companies that use traditional business models at risk. Many companies are still highly competitive, but when platforms enter the same marketplace, the platforms usually win. Companies that fail to create platforms on their own or to integrate their business into existing platforms will be unable to compete for long.

Background: The science–policy interface process – known as a ‘scientific assessment’ – has risen to prominence in the past few decades. Complex assessments are appropriate for issues which are both technically complicated, multifaceted and of high societal interest. There is increasing interest from the research community that studies biological invasions to undertake such an assessment. Objectives: Providing the relevant background and context, the article describes key principles and steps for designing, planning, resourcing and executing such a process, as well as providing evidence of high-impact assessments enhancing scientific careers. Method: Experience from international and national assessments, most recently the South African scientific assessment for the Shale Gas Development in the Central Karoo, was used to develop this guiding generic template for practitioners. Analyses of researcher publication performances were undertaken to determine the benefit of being involved in assessments. Results: The key success factors for assessments mostly relate to adherence to ‘process’ and ‘governance’ aspects, for which scientists are sometimes ill-equipped. As regards publication outputs, authors involved in assessment processes demonstrated higher H-indices than their environmental scientist peers. We have suggested causal explanations for this. Conclusion: Effectively designed and managed assessments provide the platform for the ‘co-production of knowledge’ – an iterative and collaborative process involving scientists, stakeholders and policymakers. This increases scientific impact in the society–policy domain. While scientists seem concerned that effort directed towards assessments comes at the detriment of scientific credibility and productivity, we have presented data that suggest the opposite.

<p>Over the past few years, there has been increasing attention in New Zealand drawn to the pollution of water bodies from dairy farm effluent, and ways to mitigate this. The aim of this research is to identify the key elements involved in engaging farmers in community based action to mitigate agricultural water pollution. The study examines a Landcare project that has shown signs of apparent success, entitled the Aorere Catchment Project (ACP), in Golden Bay, New Zealand. The ACP was initiated after the Aorere River was found to have high pathogen levels, likely resulting from dairy farm runoff. This research evaluates the projects apparent success, and follows the evolution of the project to gain an understanding of the key success factors in engaging farmers. Surveys of dairy farmers in the Aorere valley were undertaken in 2007 and again in 2010 to identify management practices and identify changes in issues and farmer attitudes over this period. This study found that the ACP has had extensive success, both in resolving waterway issues and engaging farmers in action for healthy waterways. The underlying community led philosophy of the project has been vital in the success of this project. The key project principles, ‘farmers as leaders’, and ‘experts on tap not on top’ have contributed greatly to the projects uptake. There are however some catchment specific elements that have aided the apparent success of this initiative. The Aorere catchment project model unchanged would not be suitable for every catchment in New Zealand, as not all the elements of success were under the projects control. The model does however serve as a good example for similar projects in other New Zealand catchments, and also the importance of a suitable indicator of success.</p>
