By analyzing the relationship of the design parameters of NYD contact backstop, the cross-section curve of the wedge block has been discussed as Archimedes spiral, logarithm spiral and arc. Each curve is designed optimally using MATLAB optimization toolbox. The merits and drawbacks of each curve are discussed.

The study of the cultural and agglutinating reactions of seventeen strains of Morgan bacilli is reported. The cultures were obtained from different sources. Culturally all the strains were identical. Antigenically they were highly diversified. The sera produced against some strains have marked agglutinating power for other strains, but absorption tests showed that the cross-agglutinations were often due to group agglutinins. While no conclusion can be drawn regarding the pathogenic significance of this bacillus, the wide diversities of antigenic properties raise the question as to the specific relationship of the various cultures met with as well as their relation to a definite class of pathological processes in man.

In this paper, the flexibility of the cross axis and furcated frame of high speed rapier loom was considered through the change of the two components’ material. Corresponding neutral documents were generated in ANSYS, then with the ANSYS-ADAMS co-simulation, those neutral documents were imported into ADAMS. The motion curves of sword belt were received. Through the map analysis and comparison, the relationship of changing the two components’ material and the motion curves of sword belt were found. The simulation results show that, in consideration of the flexible components, rational selection of the component material can greatly reduce the impact on Spatial four bar linkage weft insertion mechanism, thereby enhance the quality of the fabric.

Abstract The present paper deals with the controversially discussed relationships between the gods Alalu, Anu, Kumarbi, and Tarḫunnaš in the Hittite Song of Going Forth (CTH 344). On the basis of a new philological analysis, of comparisons with theogonies or succession myths in other ancient cultures and on the background of considerations on the cross-cultural stratification of various mythical traditions in the surviving Hittite text, various proposals on the genealogical relationship of the deities in question are weighed against each other and reasons are presented for the plausibility of the proposed new translation and general reconstruction that the divine kingship always passes from father to son within a single genealogical line.

ABSTRACTBackground:In older persons, a relationship between both higher and lower blood pressure and depression has inconsistently been reported. Blood pressure may be differentially associated with distinct symptom domains of depression. We examined the cross-sectional relation of current systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) with different depressive symptom domains among depressed older persons.Methods:In the Netherlands Study of Depression in Older Persons (NESDO), 270 participants aged 60 years and above were diagnosed with depression in the past month. Using the three corresponding subscales of the Inventory of Depressive Symptoms-Self Report (IDS-SR), motivational, mood and somatic symptom domains were assessed. Additionally, symptoms of apathy were determined with the Apathy Scale. Multiple linear regression was used to examine the cross-sectional relationship between current SBP, DBP and MAP with both IDS-SR subscale and Apathy Scale scores. Unstandardized betas were calculated per 10 mmHg increase in blood pressure measures.Results:Mean age of participants was 70.4 years (standard deviation 7.3). Higher SBP (Beta 0.33, t (254) = 2.01, p = 0.045), higher DBP (Beta 0.68, t (254) = 2.15, p = 0.03) and higher MAP (Beta 0.63, t (254) = 2.33, p = 0.02) were associated with higher Apathy Scale scores in the fully adjusted model. Furthermore, a higher SBP was associated with higher IDS-SR mood subscale scores (Beta 0.25, t (254) = 2.13, p = 0.03).Conclusions:Depressed older people with higher blood pressure measures had particularly more symptoms of apathy. To disentangle the relationship of blood pressure with late-life depression, it is important to pay attention to the role of apathy symptoms.

The article is devoted to the study of the relationship of non-Euclidean symmetries in inherited biostructures with algebraic features of information nucleotide sequences in DNA molecules in the genomes of eukaryotes and prokaryotes. These genomic sequences obey the universal hyperbolic rules of the oligomer cooperative organization, which are associated with the harmonic progression 1/1, 1/2, 1/3,.., 1/n. The progression has long been known and studied in various branches of mathematics and physics. Now it has manifested itself in genetic informatics. The performed analysis of the harmonic progression revealed its connection with the cross-ratio, which is the main invariant of projective geometry. This connection consists in the fact that the magnitude of the cross-ratio is the same and is equal to 4/3 for any four adjacent members of this progression. The long DNA nucleotide sequences have fractal-like structure with so called epi-chains, whose structures are also related to the harmonic progression and the projective-geometrical symmetries. The received results are related additionally to a consideration of DNA double helix as helical antenna. This fact of the connection of genetic informatics with the main invariant of projective geometry can be used to explain the implementation of some non-Euclidean symmetries in genetically inherited structures of living bodies.

The fine structure of the Z-disk in rat striated muscle has been found to be dependent upon the manner of its fixation. Material primarily fixed in osmium tetroxide shows a square or ‘woven’ lattice in transverse sections, with a spacing of around 22 nm, and with its axes off-set by 45° from the axes of alignment of the files of I-filaments prior to their entry into the Z-disk. In longitudinal sections the disk may have a zig-zag appearance with individual I-filaments of one sarcomere apparently linked obliquely to 2 or more I-filaments of the next. Transverse sections of Z-disks in muscle primarily fixed in glutaraldehyde show a square-lattice pattern with a spacing of about II nm, its axes coinciding with the axes of alignment of the adjacent I-filaments. In longitudinal sections oblique linkages of the ends of the I-filaments are not seen, and they appear either to interdigitate, or to be longitudinally continuous with those of the next sarcomere. This second fine structure is interpreted as being the consequence of the superimposition of 2 basic square lattices, each of 22-nm period, 50 % out of register along each axis, and each fort-ned from the lateral linkage of the ends of the interdigitating I-filaments with the ends of adjacent filaments from their own sarcomere. The relationship of this postulated structure to the lattice patterns previously described, the nature of the cross-linking material, and some possible functional implications are briefly discussed.

AbstractThe controversial gambling decision of the Appellate Body is mostly important because of examination of the nature of Access under Article XVI GATS, the relationship of that Article to Articles XIV and XVII GATS, and the parallels with Articles III, XI, and XX GATT. Notably, the Appellate Body took the position that an apparant internal regulatory measure, which, nonetheless, had equivalent effect to a zero quota, violated Article XVI GATS. A similar measure in the area of goods would have been examined under Article III GATT and require a showing of discrimination. The facts of the case would have allowed the decision to be based on Article XVII GATS. Most of this paper deals with this issue. We agree with this interpretation of Article XVI by the Appellate Body but are critical of its hermeneutics, suffering from a textual fetish and a policy phobia. Some other elements in the decision are also examined critically.
