Abstract A method has been developed to determine the phosphate composition of commercial stock food grade calcium phosphates with an over-all accuracy of ± 2% absolute. It is based on the EDTA solubility of all the o-phosphates, water-solubility of monocalcium phosphate, thermal conversion of dicalcium phosphate to pyrophosphate, and thermal stability of tricalcium phosphate. Results are given for both known and commercial samples.

β-carotene is a promising natural active ingredient for optimum human health. However, the insolubility in water, low oral bioavailability, and instability in oxygen, heat, and light are key factors to limit its application as incorporation into functional foods. Therefore, gliadin nanoparticles (GNPs) Pickering emulgels were chosen as food-grade β-carotene delivery systems. The objectives of the present study were to investigate the influence of GNPs concentration on the rheological properties, stability, and simulated gastrointestinal fate of β-carotene of Pickering emulgels. The formulations of Pickering emulgels at low GNPs concentration had better fluidity, whereas at high GNPs concentration, they had stronger gel structures. Furthermore, the thermal stability of β-carotene loaded in Pickering emulgels after two pasteurization treatments was significantly improved with the increase of GNPs concentration. The Pickering emulgels stabilized with higher GNPs concentration could improve the protection and bioaccessibility of β-carotene after different storage conditions. This study demonstrated the tremendous potential of GNPs Pickering emulgels to carry β-carotene.

AbstractThe solar absorptance property of W/WAlN/WAlON/Al2O3-based coatings, deposited by DC/RF magnetron sputtering on stainless steel substrate was studied by measuring the reflectance spectra in the wavelength range of 250 - 2500 nm. The effect of thermal annealing on the optical properties of the solar selective absorber coatings was investigated. Annealing the coatings at 450°C for 150 hrs in air did not show any significant change in the spectral properties of the absorber coating indicating the excellent thermal stability of the coating. The W layer acts as infrared reflective layer and diffusion barrier on stainless steel substrate. The top Al2O3 layer serves as dense shield to protect the under layers from oxidation in air. In summary, the present study indicates the potential application of W/WAlN/WAlON/Al2O3-based selective coatings in high temperature photo thermal conversion systems.

The work focuses on research related to determination of application possibility of new, ecofriendly boroorganic polyols in rigid polyurethane foams production. Polyols were obtained from hydroxypropyl urea derivatives esterified with boric acid and propylene carbonate. The influence of esterification type on properties of polyols and next on polyurethane foams properties was determined. Nitrogen and boron impacts on the foams’ properties were discussed, for instance, on their physical, mechanical, and electric properties. Boron presence causes improvement of dimensional stability and thermal stability of polyurethane foams. They can be applied even at temperature 150°C. Unfortunately, introducing boron in polyurethanes foams affects deterioration of their water absorption, which increases as compared to the foams that do not contain boron. However, presence of both boron and nitrogen determines the decrease of the foams combustibility. Main impact on the decrease combustibility of the obtained foams has nitrogen presence, but in case of proper boron and nitrogen ratio their synergic activity on the combustibility decrease can be easily seen.
