This chapter considers the space D of functions on the unit interval that are continuous on the right and with left limits, known as càdlàg functions. D contains and extends the space C, but is nonseparable under the uniform metric so to work with it calls for new techniques. By defining a new topology for D (the Skorokhod topology), families of measures on D can be constructed and sufficient conditions for weak convergence of partial sum processes specified.

AbstractOur aim is to find sufficient conditions for weak convergence of stochastic integrals with respect to the state occupation measure of a Markov chain. First, we study properties of the state indicator function and the state occupation measure of a Markov chain. In particular, we establish weak convergence of the state occupation measure under a scaling of the generator matrix. Then, relying on the connection between the state occupation measure and the Dynkin martingale, we provide sufficient conditions for weak convergence of stochastic integrals with respect to the state occupation measure. We apply our results to derive diffusion limits for the Markov-modulated Erlang loss model and the regime-switching Cox–Ingersoll–Ross process.

AbstractIn this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the multivariate record values by using the Reduced Ordering Principle (R-ordering). Necessary and sufficient conditions for weak convergence of the multivariate record values based on sup-norm are determined. Some illustrative examples are given.

Necessary and sufficient conditions on weight pairs guaranteeing the two-weight inequalities for the potential operators(Iαf)(x)=∫0∞(f(t)/|x−t|1−α)dtand(ℐα1,α2f)(x,y)=∫0∞∫0∞(f(t,τ)/|x−t|1−α1|y−τ|1−α2)dtdτon the cone of nonincreasing functions are derived. In the case ofℐα1,α2, we assume that the right-hand side weight is of product type. The same problem for other mixed-type double potential operators is also studied. Exponents of the Lebesgue spaces are assumed to be between 1 and ∞.

Abstract A generalized scheme of allocation of n particles into ordered cells (components). Some statements containing sufficient conditions for the weak convergence of the number of components with given cardinality and of the total number of components to the negative binomial distribution as n → ∞ are presented as hypotheses. Examples supporting the validity of these statements in particular cases are considered. For some examples we prove local limit theorems for the total number of components which partially generalize known results on the convergence of this distribution to the normal law.

There is a gap of knowledge between practitioners about the off-site construction. For this reason, the Manni Group case study presented in this article highlights the positive role of dissemination as business value proposition support in the context of off-site construction industry. The Manni Group involved opinion leaders, professionals, universities and industrial partners in a network of dissemination that, going beyond the concept of advertising, it generated a multiple effect of value creation between the direct and indirect involved stakeholders. Dissemination emerges as a model of action that creates impacts on cultural change. It is scalable and applicable in many areas where actors have the right competences to manage the dissemination. Wherever there is a knowledge gap or friction towards new techniques and methodologies, the model is able to create value for companies and stakeholders involved in the emerging network.

Low loss transmission circular polarizer is proposed for Ku band applications. The designed structure consists of two closely cross metallic strips which are based on FSS for 15.25 GHz and 15.28 GHz applications. The right hand circular polarization (RHCP) and left handed circular polarization (LHCP) are obtained at 15.25 GHz and at 15.28 GHz. The transmission loss through polarizer is important issue for high frequency applications. Due to transmission loss, new techniques are required to reduce the transmission loss of transmitted wave and achieve perfect circular polarization. Meanwhile, low loss transmission has been achieved by using dual layer of strips to obtain perfect circular polarization at certain mentioned resonant frequencies. Theoretically, it is found that the outgoing waves through polarizer are perfect circular polarization at the distinct frequency ranges.

Privacy, or the right to hold information about oneself in secret (Masuda, 1979; O’Brien & Yasnof, 1999), has become increasingly important in the information society. With the rapid technological advances and the digitalization of information, retrieval of specific records is more rapid; personal information can be integrated into a number of different data files; and copying, transporting, collecting, storing, and processing large amounts of information is easier. Additionally, the advent of the World Wide Web and the fast-paced growth of the Internet have created further cause for concern. The vast amounts of digital information and the pervasiveness of the Internet facilitate new techniques for gathering information—for example, spyware, phishing, and cookies. Hence, personal information is much more vulnerable to being inappropriately used. This article outlines the importance of privacy in an e-commerce environment, the specific privacy concerns individuals may have, antecedents to these concerns, and potential remedies to quell them.

An enormous production of databases in almost every area of human endeavor particularly through web has created a great demand for new, powerful tools for turning data into useful, task-oriented knowledge. The aim of this study is to study the predictive ability of Factor Analysis a web mining technique to prevent voting, averaging, stack generalization, meta- learning and thus saving much of our time in choosing the right technique for right kind of underlying dataset. This chapter compares the three factor based techniques viz. principal component regression (PCR), Generalized Least Square (GLS) Regression, and Maximum Likelihood Regression (MLR) method and explores their predictive ability on theoretical as well as on experimental basis. All the three factor based techniques have been compared using the necessary conditions for forecasting like R-Square, Adjusted R-Square, F-Test, JB (Jarque-Bera) test of normality. This study can be further explored and enhanced using sufficient conditions for forecasting like Theil's Inequality coefficient (TIC), and Janur Quotient (JQ).

Peptide-based drugs, despite being relegated as niche pharmaceuticals for years, are now capturing more and more attention from the scientific community. The main problem for these kinds of pharmacological compounds was the low degree of cellular uptake, which relegates the application of peptide-drugs to extracellular targets. In recent years, many new techniques have been developed in order to bypass the intrinsic problem of this kind of pharmaceuticals. One of these features is the use of stapled peptides. Stapled peptides consist of peptide chains that bring an external brace that force the peptide structure into an α -helical one. The cross-link is obtained by the linkage of the side chains of opportune-modified amino acids posed at the right distance inside the peptide chain. In this account, we report the main stapling methodologies currently employed or under development and the synthetic pathways involved in the amino acid modifications. Moreover, we report the results of two comparative studies upon different kinds of stapled-peptides, evaluating the properties given from each typology of staple to the target peptide and discussing the best choices for the use of this feature in peptide-drug synthesis.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the quotient problem for right noetherian nonsingular rings and the quotient problem for semicritical rings. It is shown that a right noetherian nonsingular ring R has an artinian classical quotient ring iff certain semicritical factor rings R/Ki, i = 1,…,n, possess artinian classical quotient rings and regular elements in R/Ki lift to regular elements of R for all i. If R is a two sided noetherian nonsingular ring, then the existence of an artinian classical quotient ring is equivalent to each R/Ki possessing an artinian classical quotient ring and the right Krull primes of R consisting of minimal prime ideals. If R is also weakly right ideal invariant, then the former condition is redundant. Necessary and sufficient conditions are found for a nonsingular semicritical ring to have an artinian classical quotient ring.
