Abstract Introduction The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the effectiveness of the clinical nurse transition program (CNTP) for newly commissioned Army nurses. This is one of the first evaluations conducted to document the outcomes of the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) transition-to practice residency program. Materials and Methods This project was a prospective pre-test/post-test design evaluation of newly licensed registered nurses (RNs) entering the military health system from Fall 2017 to Fall 2018 using Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey and the New Graduate RN Transition Program Competency Assessment Tool. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.4. All tests were two-tailed as applicable and p-values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Missing data were treated as missing for individual items; their values were not imputed. No participant was excluded due to missing items. This evaluation was determined to be exempt from human subject protection regulations by the Human Protections Administrator at Womack Army Medical Center. Results A total of 92 pre-test surveys were sent to the nine CNTP training sites which actively trained RNs during the study timeframe. Due to a shipping error, 6 of the 92 completed pre-test surveys from one CNTP site were not received, for an overall response rate of 93.4% (86/92), from eight CNTP sites. Of the 86 participants from whom pre-tests were received, all 86 successfully returned their post-test survey, for a 100% response rate pre- to post- survey. The participants were predominately white (73.3%) and female (70.9%) with a median age of 23 years (IQR: 22–24 years) and an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 (IQR: 3.4–3.7, Table II). Quantitative data analysis revealed that after the training, all participants reported a significant improvement in providing safe (p < 0.0001) and quality care (p < 0.0001) for an average workload of in-patient patients. It also showed a significant improvement in team leading (p < 0.0001), effective decision making (p < 0.0001), incorporating evidence into practice (p < 0.0001), and demonstrated professionalism (p < 0.0001). The overall clinical competence and readiness to practice (p < 0.0001) also improved. Data shows that participants perceive significant improvement in all the objectives set by the ANC for the transition program. Conclusion The results of this program evaluation provide evidence that the CNTP has been a success in meeting the intended objectives. Participants showed a significant improvement in their perceived readiness and level of competency in clinical, technical, and leadership skills performance at the end of the program, as well as improved communication and teamwork. The CNTP experience provides an effective means to facilitate the development of newly licensed Army nurses’ clinical competence and confidence in practice. The study limitation includes the Casey-Fink Readiness for Practice Survey had relatively low reliability, but it was chosen as it was better aligned to the specified CNTP objectives. And also, with any self-reported evaluation, there is potential bias regarding the accuracy of participants’ self-perception. Follow-up study may include examining the demographics of the incoming nurses, such as their source of commission. To determine if and how the comfort and confidence self-reported by the new graduate nurses is reflective of actual ability, nurse preceptors may be asked to complete skills assessments or simulations with objective measurements may be used.

In many respects, the least important part of the 1999 elections were the elections themselves. From the beginning of General Abdusalam Abubakar’s transition program in mid-1998, most Nigerians who were not part of the wealthy “political class” of elites—which is to say, most Nigerians— adopted their usual politically savvy perspective of siddon look (sit and look). They waited with cautious optimism to see what sort of new arrangement the military would allow the civilian politicians to struggle over, and what in turn the civilians would offer the public. No one had any illusions that anything but high-stakes bargaining within the military and the political class would determine the structures of power in the civilian government. Elections would influence this process to the extent that the crowd influences a soccer match.

Im angloamerikanischen und nordeuropäischen Raum wurden verschiedene ANP-Einzelrollen entwickelt, unter anderem die der Clinical Nurse Specialist und der Nurse Practitioner. Diese universitär ausgebildeten Pflegespezialisten sind in der Schweiz weiterhin sehr rar. Um vor diesem Hintergrund die Praxis dennoch nachhaltig weiterentwickeln zu können, wurden in den letzten acht Jahren im Kinderspital Zürich kontinuierlich Advanced-Nursing-Practice-Teams (ANP-Teams) aufgebaut. Dieser Ansatz bewährte sich durch gezielte und angemessene Leistungserbringung in hochkomplexen Situationen. In diesem Artikel wird die Zusammensetzung der ANP-Teams diskutiert, wobei der Personalmix einen Schlüsselfaktor darstellt. Unterstützende Elemente stellen dabei sowohl die Aufgabendefinition als auch Aufgabenteilung in Klinik- und Konzeptteams dar. Die ANP-Teams arbeiten motiviert und zielgerichtet, sie integrieren Pflegende verschiedenster Erfahrungs- und Ausbildungsniveaus, wodurch gegenseitiges Lernen gefördert wird.

Lern- und köperbehinderte Menschen erfordern besondere Aufmerksamkeit und pflegerische Kompetenz während der stationären Behandlung. Es konnten 17 Publikationen für ein systematisches Review in den Datenbanken PUBMED, CINAHL und Cochrane Library (1990 – 2011) identifiziert werden. Dabei zeigten sich folgende Problemfelder: Die Situation lernbehinderter Menschen im Klinikalltag ist geprägt durch Kommunikationsbarrieren zwischen Patient(inn)en und professionellen Akteur(inn)en. Zudem dominiert die emotionale Situation lernbehinderter Menschen, die in der fremden Umgebung unter Angst und Unsicherheit leiden. Beide Phänomene stehen untereinander in Wechselwirkung und werden beeinflusst durch Bedingungen wie Zeit, Versorgungskontinuität, Fachkompetenz sowie die Einstellung behinderten Menschen gegenüber. Angehörige wirken beruhigend auf die Patient(inn)en ein und übernehmen die Aufgabe des Übersetzens im Klinikalltag. Clinical Nurse Specialists sind mit den Problemfeldern vertraut und tragen zu einer Verbesserung der Situation lern- und körperbehinderter Menschen im Krankenhaus bei. Die Studien weisen überwiegend eine kleine Stichprobe auf, die Ergebnisse bedürfen weiterer Überprüfungen. Empirische Erkenntnisse aus Deutschland, Österreich sowie der Schweiz liegen nicht vor. Aufgrund der auch hier zu erwartenden Problemlage sind empirische Forschungsarbeiten zu dieser Thematik somit dringend zu empfehlen. Der besondere prästationäre Informationsbedarf und das Einbeziehen Angehöriger in die stationäre Pflege sollten zukünftig berücksichtigt werden.

RESUMOO texto proporciona reflexões sobre a formação do Pedagogo, enfatizando as limitações mais visíveis na área da avaliação educacional. A partir da análise de matrizes curriculares de cursos de graduação em Pedagogia, constatou-se que algumas das principais demandas da sociedade atual não têm sido atendidas. Propôs-se que as matrizes curriculares fossem revistas, para permitir o desenvolvimento de cinco competências básicas: a) capacidade de compreender os resultados de avaliações externas realizadas pelos municípios, pelos estados e pela federação; b) capacidade de usar os resultados das avaliações externas para aprimorar a atuação docente; c) capacidade de usar os micro-dados das avaliações externas para obter diagnósticos mais detalhados da situação da escola; d) capacidade de usar os resultados dos diagnósticos mais detalhados para planejar ações de aprimoramento da gestão escolar; e) capacidade de avaliar a execução e adequação das ações de aprimoramento da gestão escolar.Palavras chave: Formação do pedagogo, ensino superior, avaliação educacional.Limitations and challenges in the formation of pedagogue in the area of education assessment.ABSTRACTThe study provides reflections on the formation of the pedagogue, emphasizing the most visible limitations in the field of educational assessment. From the analysis of matrices of education curriculum, it found that some of the main demands of today’s society have not been addressed yet. It proposed the revision of the curricular matrices to allow the development of five skills: a) ability to understand the results of external evaluations conducted by municipalities, regions and the government; b) ability to use the results of external evaluations to improve teacher performance; c) ability to use external evaluation microdata for a more detailed diagnosis of the school situation; d) ability to use results of the most detailed diagnostics for planning actions to improve school management; e) ability to assess the implementation and adaptation of the measures to improve school management.Key words: Teacher training, higher education, educational evaluation.
