The case centers on Shilling & Smith's acquisition of Xteria Inc. and the resulting need to quickly scale the company's IT infrastructure to accommodate the acquisition. The case is based on a real leasing problem faced by a major retail firm in the Chicago area when it purchased a small credit card processing firm and scaled the operations to handle the retail firm's credit card transactions. The CIO of Shilling & Smith needs to determine which lease option is the best means of providing the technical infrastructure needed to support the firm after the acquisition of Xteria. Several issues will drive this decision, including the value and useful life of the equipment, as well as the strategic context of the firm. This case examines how to evaluate different lease options when acquiring data center information technology infrastructure. Specifically, the case addresses software vs. hardware leasing, different lease terms, and choosing between different lease structures depending on the strategy and needs of a company. This case enables students to understand the different types of technology leases and in which situations these leases would be employed.The Shilling & Smith case examines how to evaluate different lease options when acquiring data center information technology infrastructure. Specifically, students learn software vs. hardware leasing, different lease terms, and how to choose between different lease structures depending on the strategy and needs of the company. A secondary objective of the case is to teach students the important components and relative costs of information technology infrastructure.

Information Technology (IT) is increasingly progressing. Nowadays, the success of a business of the organization/company is highly dependent on the IT infrastructure used. Therefore, organizations/companies have to manage their IT service to be optimal to their customers. Looking at this matter and the increasing dynamics of XYZ University, then Data and Information System Center (Pusdatin) - an IT provider of XYZ University began implementing IT Service Management (ITSM) from 2013 using the latest version of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), namely ITIL v3 as a framework for implementing ITSM in its business processes. However, along the way, there are still some problems happen in Pusdatin in order that ITSM can actually support and align with the objectives of XYZ University. Through this paper, the authors want to explain how the implementation of ITSM at Pusdatin, identify the problems related to the implementation of ITSM, and provide the solutions for each problem. The methods used are direct observation to Pusdatin, conductan interview with the Head of Pusdatin and Staff of Pusdatin, and also perform a literature review of books and papers that discuss about ITIL. The result of this research is that ITSM process of Pusdatin generally works quite well but there are still some shortcomings because ITSM is not 100% implemented in all areas.

According to Gartner (2004b), IT infrastructure consolidation and standardization characterized the largest multibillion IT outsourcing contracts during 2003 and 2004 and are expected to continue for the next several years. These contracts are not just exercises in cost reduction necessitated by economic doldrums, but they are also intended to advance clients toward becoming enterprises that are more efficient. The foundation of an IT portfolio is the firm’s information technology infrastructure. This internal IT infrastructure is composed of four elements as was illustrated in Figure 2.3. The presentation of Weill and Vitale’s (2002) work on infrastructure services indicated the number and complexity of services that constitute the IT infrastructure in an organization to enable electronic business. Successfully implementing e-business initiatives depends on having the necessary IT infrastructure in place. E-business initiatives can be decomposed into their underlying atomic e-business models, which can have quite different IT infrastructure requirements.

In Mexico, companies invest enormous resources in information technology (IT), with little evidence of the latters effectiveness. Company directors struggle with gauging how effective or ineffective making these investments truly is, given the lack of instruments of measurement by which to establish, for instance, an internal rate of return or a period of recovery on investments. There is also no evidence by which to link IT investment to improvements in a companys performance or profitability. While several American and Australian universities have developed studies that address these issues, for the most part these are limited to their respective countries and in some cases to Canada and Europe. Thus, there is a lack of empiric evidence in the Mexican scenario. Being able to analyze and measure the impact of IT investments is an important first step into making these resources more efficient. Based on the following analyses, one will identify the variables that intervene in successful and/or unsuccessful management of processes and projects, as well as in the administration of IT infrastructure.

This analysis of the information technology infrastructure at United Parcel Service (UPS) begins with a general overview of the companys information technology (IT) environment to establish awareness of the size and complexity of this corporation. It includes a macro-level breakdown of the technology infrastructure of UPS ranging from the data centers to the PCs currently in operation. The study also more closely analyzes the software and database structure of UPS along with an analysis of the companys E-commerce activities. It includes an interview with Tom Creech, the North Florida District E-commerce manager at UPS. Finally, research was conducted to evaluate the emerging technologies that UPS is implementing and employing to support the business strategy and maintain its competitive edge.

Over the past 2 decades, the information technology infrastructure has gone through an exponential change with the introduction and evolution of new technologies and trends. Organizations previously having their data on-premise and their infrastructure comprising of multiple server machines on multiple server racks and dedicated client personal computers (PCs) are moving towards cloud computing & virtualization to Smartphone and tablets. This rapid advancement and constant change, although increasing productivity for the organizations is resulting in a rising number of challenges and security issues for the organizations, their managers, IT administrators and technology architects. This paper discusses the future IT infrastructure components and the challenges & security issues that arise after their implementation that needs to be taken care of in order to get the full advantage of IT.

This article mainly investigates the impact of information technology (IT) infrastructure on organizational agility. Primary data collected from 300 business and IT executives working in various publicly owned banking groups functioning across India have been used for this study and a structural equation modelling (SEM) is employed to assess the IT-agility link. This article reports two-folded research findings. First, IT infrastructure enables both the sensing and responding components of organizational agility. Second, firms should not overlook the IT-agility contradiction, that is, the impeding role of IT towards achieving augmented agility. This study greatly contributes to the information systems (IS) literature as it has meticulously explored the much discussed but understudied human IT-agility linkage. The present research has successfully established the significant positive relationship between the critical dimensions of agile human IT infrastructure, namely, business functions, interpersonal management, technology management expertise and organizational sensing and responding agilities.

The implementation of Information Technology (IT) in the daily management and administration is a very crucial and essential move for every organization nowadays. The implementation of IT in a waqf institution could help to ease as well as enhances the level of efficiency and effectiveness of the management team, especially when dealing with waqf property management. Studies that, as to date, waqf institutions in Malaysia still lack in the use of IT especially in managing the waqf property. The problems often arise in waqf property management such as information of waqf property is not centralized, data are unstructured and difficulties in data retrieval which caused it to be time consuming and inefficiency in the overall waqf property management. Thus, the implementation of an information system to manage the waqf property by the waqf institution is very crucial in ensuring the competitiveness of the organization. As part of the e-Waqf property management initiative, this study was conducted to assess the waqf institution readiness towards e-Waqf property management initiatives. A qualitative method using a case study design with a semi-structured interview has been conducted with a representative from a waqf institution in Malaysia. Assessment from the elements of readiness which focus on IT infrastructure shows a good level of readiness by the top management towards the e-Waqf property management initiative. However, the systems and communication element shows a low level of readiness. Results from this study could contribute to the e-Waqf property management readiness among the waqf institution as one of the push factors that will change the way waqf property is managed in every waqf institution. Hence, this will lead to the optimally utilized of waqf property for the benefits of the Ummah in the future.

Modern cloud-based information technology (IT) infrastructure monitoring context and data are gathered from various systems. Typical monitoring systems provide a set of metrics characterizing the performance and health of a variety of infrastructure components. To understand the dependencies and relations among these measurements, the infrastructure topology can be analysed to provide context to the monitoring metrics. However, the metrics and the topology are updated at different time intervals and providing continuous merging and analysis of both data sets is a challenging task which is rarely addressed in the scientific literature. The paper elaborates a method for integration of infrastructure topology graph and monitoring metric data streams. The method is intended for application in the identification of anomalies in IT infrastructure.
