Tourist’s preferences in selection of local food: perception and behavior embedded model

Purpose Locally derived foods from the lens of restaurant settings play an important source of tourist attraction. Surprisingly, research into this sector is quite scarce. The aim of the paper is to develop and empirically examine a conceptual framework on tourist’s preferences in selecting local foods. The framework includes tourists’ satisfaction, quality of food, tourist’s perception, purchase intention and purchase behavior among tourist’s selection for local foods. Design/methodology/approach The research is designed as quantitative in nature. A sum of 280 usable questionnaires was used from 300 distributed instruments by using convenient sampling techniques. Findings The results show that the relationship of tourist satisfaction and behavior is mediated by purchase intention, whereas tourist’s satisfaction and perception have a positive and significant impact on the intention of purchasing local foods. There is also a significant relationship between tourist’s satisfaction and perceived quality toward the tourist’s perception of local foods. Moreover, a significant relationship exists between tourist’s intentions and tourist’s purchase behavior. Research limitations/implications The study derived the purchase behavior dimensions of local foods by the tourists through literature and verified the conceptual model through empirical testing. Based on these findings, managers of local food restaurants require maximizing the purchase behavior of the visitors by considering satisfaction and perceived quality. In summation, they also should consider perception and behavioral intention of tourists. The limitation of this research relates to the sample, where data were collected from the major city of a tourist-friendly country. Future research could investigate the perceived value and gender variance as moderating variables in and between purchase intention and purchase behavior. Practical implications Managers and policymakers may use the outcome of this research as a guideline to understand the depth of tourist’s behavior. By identifying the antecedents of the behavioral factors may assist the managers to strengthen the restaurant’s competitive position within the industry. Finally, policymakers may use the research to assess tourists’ perceptions of local foods acceptability in promoting the nation’s culture to other parts of the world. Originality/value This work adds to tourism behavior research by exploring the effect of satisfaction, perceived quality, perception and intention on behaviors associated with local foods purchase behavior. In particular, the study highlights the relationships between tourist’s perception, perceived quality of local foods and satisfaction of local foods to measure tourist’s behavior through purchase intention for local foods from the perspective of restaurant settings, which have received less research attention.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to contribute the advancement of knowledge on food heritage and indigenous entrepreneurship in a non-Western country, specifically in the Persian gardens as the touristic destination for increasing the tourism and food businesses in Iran.Design/methodology/approachThe methodological approach adopted is based on qualitative and quantitative approaches to compare two representative gardens named as Bagh-Chehel-Sotoun and Bagh-Fin, as famous examples of a Persian garden in Iran. The methods supported the research to explain the lack of strategies for improving virtuous cycles in Persian gardens despite their potentials as the main places to attract many tourists.FindingsRegarding local food and the quality of servicing, most of the visitors and tourists (85–90%) had interest to test local and traditional foods around both gardens, but they had no sufficient awareness of Iranian traditional foods. According to the tourists’ interests, the authors concluded the lack of servicing and facilities to present and introduce local and traditional food for tourists.Research limitations/implicationsDespite the limitation of local food services and lack of awareness of tourists about local foods, the implication of the study offers possible avenues to promote local food business.Practical implicationsThe results could be useful for cultural heritage and tourism organizations and for investors in the economic sector due to more exploitation of the tourism industry.Originality/valueThe paper is the first work evaluating the Persian garden with a new perspective of local foods in Iran.

Purpose – This study aims to theorize and empirically examine the relationship between “purchase intention and conversion rate”, “website satisfaction and conversion rate” and “purchase intention and conversion rate”. E-Commerce conversion rate represents the percentage of visits to an e-tailer’s website that includes a purchase transaction. Despite the importance of conversion rates for e-tailers, prior research predominantly used purchase intention and website satisfaction as main dependent variables and implicitly assumed that these variables will influence the actual purchase. Design/methodology/approach – Data on 85 US retail websites were used to test the hypotheses. The unit of the analysis is the online retail website. Regression analysis was used to perform the data analysis. Findings – The results indicate that both purchase intention and website satisfaction positively influence conversion rates. It was also found that website satisfaction positively influences purchase intention. Research limitations/implications – Only data from 85 US e-tailers from the top-100 US online retailers are used to test the hypotheses. Also, conversion rate is only one of the several important success metrics used by e-tailers. Originality/value – This study not only examines antecedents of e-commerce conversion rates, but also theorizes and tests if there is a statistically significant relationship between “purchase intention and conversion rate” and “website satisfaction and conversion rate”. This is because, although previous studies used purchase intention and website satisfaction as main dependent variables and proxies for actual purchase behavior, they did not validate this relationship. This study shows that: there is a statistically significant relationship between “purchase intention and conversion rate” and “website satisfaction and conversion rate”, there is also a statistically significant relationship between “website satisfaction and purchase intention” and this study used firm-level data to theorize, measure and analyze the data, whereas prior literature used only individual-level data.

Purpose There is growing interest among marketers in advertising and promoting their brands by adopting an online celebrity endorsement strategy. However, how online celebrities build their own brand equity and how online celebrity brand equity impacts fans’ purchase behavior have not been extensively researched in the extant literature. This paper aims to explore the factors that contribute to online celebrity branding and improving fans’ purchase intentions. Design/methodology/approach A survey and an experiment were conducted among consumers from the mainland of China. A total of 12 hypotheses were proposed to exam how self-congruity and virtual interactivity impact online celebrity branding and to explore the moderating role of perceived quality and product type. Findings This paper reveals that customers’ perceived self-congruity with online celebrities’ image and virtual interactivity positively impact the brand equity of online celebrities. Additionally, compared with virtual interactivity, the effect of customer perceived self-congruity on a brand is more significant. The brand equity of online celebrities thereby drives followers’ purchase intentions and the perceived quality of products positively moderates this relationship. Originality/value The research conclusions provide managerial implications for marketing practitioners for how to use human brands on social media platforms in the web 2.0 era and ultimately enhance consumer purchase intentions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to verify the differences of the influence of customer experience quality on brand equity, brand trustworthiness, perceived quality, perceived risk and purchase intention of franchise customers and non-franchise customers. Design/methodology/approach After developing two questionnaires, the authors collected 523 responses from Brazilian franchise users (Questionnaire 1) and 574 of non-franchise users (Questionnaire 2). The authors proceed to a confirmatory factor analysis, based on covariance (CB-SEM). In order to compare the results between franchises and non-franchises, the authors have performed a multi-group analysis with support of AMOS. Findings The results show that customer experience quality of the franchise customers tends to result in a better purchase intention, giving indications of better quality and brand trustworthiness when compared to non-franchises. This comparison shows indications of the competitive advantage of franchises over non-franchises, justifying the investments that market companies have been making in the development of the customer experience quality. Originality/value The research contributes to the understanding of the impact of the customer experience quality on brand equity, brand trustworthiness, perceived quality, perceived risk and purchase intention that directly affects the performance of the franchises, empirically investigating the customer experience quality in the context of franchises using the adapted EXQ scale. Complementarily, it is compared with non-franchises to observe the differences between them.

This study tried to determine and analyze the deeper understanding of the influence of customer relationship management, brand equity, perceived of product quality, perceived value and price to the customer at the customer's purchase intention Philips light bulb in Batam.The population in this study are all users (consumers) electric light bulb philips brands in the city of Batam. Testing of the model in this study, with Generalized Least Square Estimation (GLS), analysis of structural equation modeling (SEM), proportional random sampling method and software assistance Amos 22, on 240 respondents from eight times the 30 indicators the study variables. The test results indicate the model (fit) seen from the GFI, AGFI, TLI, CFI, RMSEA and CMIN / DF, each of 0915, 0901, 0949, 0953, 0063, and 1,376 are all that are in the range of expected values so that the model can be accepted.The results showed that: 1). Customer relationship management influence on customer value, it shows that with good customer relationship management program, will increase customer value. 2) Customer relationship management influence on purchase intention, it shows that with good customer relationship management program, will increase customer value. 3) Brand equity effect on customer value, it shows that with a good brand equity, will increase customer value. 4). Brand equity effect on purchase intention, it shows that with a good brand equity, will increase customer value. 5) Perceived quality of product effect on customer value, it indicates that the perceived quality of a good product, will increase customer value. 6). Perceived quality of product effect on purchase intention, this suggests that the perceived quality of a good product, will increase purchase intention. 7). Perceived price effect on customer value, it indicates that the perceived price friendly, will increase customer value. 8) Perceived price effect on purchase intention, this suggests that the perceived price friendly, will increase purchase intention. 9). Customer value effect on purchase intention, it shows that with high customer value, will raise the purchase intention.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to tackle the issue of store brand equity by considering two store brand’s positioning strategies: those with high perceived added value (the organic store brands), as opposed to economic brands. It takes place in the current environmental considerations showing the important role played by the packaging in determining the store brand equity. Design/methodology/approach A PLS Path model divided into four sub-models enables the authors to make specific predictions about customers’ purchase intentions. It also provides a concise operational calculation of the brand equity of each studied store brand. Findings Results show that economic brands build their equity with reinforced packaging, and organic brands maximise their brand equity by using simple packaging. In general, reinforced packaging improves the perceived quality of economic store brands but destroys that of organic brands. The calculations of overall equity scores for each studied store brand reveal that economic brands could benefit from further development whilst organic brands already maximise their equity. Practical implications Results will enable large retailers to develop effective campaigns focussing on perceived quality and more specifically by designing packaging that are suitable for the positioning of their brands – a simple packaging for organic brands and a reinforced packaging for economic brands to maximise customers’ value. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to deepen the store brand equity, comparing two contrasting types of brands, by studying specifically variations of the levels of customers’ perceived quality depending of two types of packaging.

Environmental marketing continues to be a heavily researched area, in part due to a heightened awareness and concern for the environment among consumers. An area that has received considerable research attention is the relationship of various environmental attitudes and intentions with environmental behavioral outcomes. The conventional approach has been to linearly relate environmental attitudes and intentions among themselves and with behavioral outcomes, even though no clear pattern has emerged. The objective of the study is to understand the impact of factors influencing environmentally responsive consumption behavior on purchase intentions and purchase behavior. Data were collected from 514 respondents from Delhi. From the findings of this article, it can be stated that purchase behavior is the direct outcome of purchase intention. Further, purchase intention shows direct significant relationship, with subjective norm, attitude toward the behavior, willingness to pay, environmental consciousness, green self-identity, and perceived behavior control.

<p>This research aims to analyze the factors that influence the green purchase behavior. The sample used consisted of 163 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling. The Structural Equation Model method is used to analyze data using hypothesis testing. The results of the study show Attitude, Social Influence, Perceived Quality of Green Product have an effect on Green Purchase Behavior. Whereas environmental knowledge does not affect attitude and green purchase behavior. Management must be able to improve consumer shopping behavior by increasing Consumers Environmental Attitude, Social Influence and Perceived Quality of green products</p>

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between Role of Country of Origin and Quality Perception of Smartphones Purchase Intention. The approach in the research used is a quantitative approach using PLS-SEM SmartPLS software as a data processing tool. In this study, data collection technique was carried out using either a questionnaire or online questionnaire which was distributed to 120 respondents of Millennial Smartphone Consumers. Sampling system was a snowball sampling method. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it was found that there was a positive and significant relationship between Country of origin and perceived quality of the product. There was also a positive and insignificant relationship between Country of origin and purchase intentions. Finally, there was a positive and significant relationship between perceived quality and consumer purchase intentions.
