The article presents the studies into the secondary stress field formed in surrounding rock mass around underground excavations of different cross-sections and the variants of principal stresses at a mining depth greater than 1 km. The stress-strain analysis of surrounding rock mass around development headings was performed in Map3D environment. The obtained results of the quantitative analysis are currently used in adjustment of the model over the whole period of heading and support of operating mine openings. The estimates of the assumed parameters of excavations, as well as the calculations of micro-strains in surrounding rock mass by three scenarios are given. During heading in the test area in granite, dense fracturing and formation of tensile strain zone proceeds from the boundary of e ≥ 350me and is used to determine rough distances from the roof ( H roof) and sidewalls ( H side) of an underground excavation to the 3 boundary e = 350me (probable rock fracture zone). The modeling has determined the structure of secondary stress and strain fields in the conditions of heading operations at great depths.

Here, we present a proof-of-concept experiment where phase engineering at the nanoscale of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) flakes (from semiconducting 2H phase to metallic 1T phase) can be achieved by thermal annealing of a TMDC/Au/mica system. The local dewetting of Au particles and resulting tensile strain produced on the TMDC flakes, strongly bound to the Au surface through effective S-Au bonds, can induce a local structural phase transition. An important role is also played by the defects induced by the thermal annealing: when vacancies are present, the threshold strain needed to trigger the phase transition is significantly reduced. Scanning photoelectron microscopy (SPEM) was revealed to be the perfect tool to monitor the described phenomena.

Abstract The strain-dependent vertical and horizontal wicking of as-prepared cotton/lycra elastic woven fabric was systematically studied. The experimental results revealed that the fabric exhibited a strain strengthening effect. A higher tensile strain results in a higher equilibrium wicking height, and vice versa. Moreover, the results indicated that the proposed Laughlin–Davies model is capable of tracking well the experimental data and replicating the wicking characteristics of fabric under different levels of stretch. In addition, the wetting time and wicking area of fabric under different strains and height regimes were examined during horizontal wicking. It was found that the wetting time decreased with an increase of strain and/or water drop height. The strain-enhanced and height-weakened effects of wicking area were revealed. The spreading mechanism of water drop in elastic fabric was also proposed. Such fundamental work provides a basic support for the in-depth investigation of wicking behavior of complex stretchable textile structures.

Debonding behaviors of CFRP strengthened RC beams were experimentally investigated under the influence of weak interfaces, which are induced either by defective bonding of replaced cover or expansive cracks. Shown by test results, weak interfaces impaired considerably the structural integrity of strengthening systems during loading, and easily led to CFRP debonding failure. U-strips worked effectively in preventing the integral debonding and guarantee the structural performance of flexural sheets. However, local cover delamination in the loading process and premature rupture of flexural CFRP could still take place due to the weak interface effects. Therefore, allowable tensile strain of flexural CFRP should be reduced, and more strict confinement and anchorage measures should be taken in this case.
