There are various emerging areas in which profoundly constrained interconnected devices connect to accomplish specific tasks. Nowadays, internet of things (IoT) enables many low-resource and constrained devices to communicate, do computations, and make smarter decisions within a short period. However, there are many challenges and issues in such devices like power consumption, limited battery, memory space, performance, cost, and security. This chapter presents the security issues in such a constrained environment, where the traditional cryptographic algorithms cannot be used and, thus, discusses various lightweight cryptographic algorithms in detail and present a comparison between these algorithms. Further, the chapter also discusses the power awakening scheme and reference architecture in IoT for constrained device environment with a focus on research challenges, issues, and their solutions.

With the increasing demand for intelligent services of the Internet of Things (IoT), its security issues have attracted widespread attention recently. Since most of the existing identity authentication policies are based on a single authentication mode, they are highly likely to cause problems such as illegal operation and stealing of sensor information. In order to meet the needs of increasing IoT users for the security management of intelligent services, a multi-point collaborative authentication method based on user image intelligent collection for the security problems faced by IoT in identity authentication is proposed in the paper. This method firstly collects the identity of the legal user through the intelligent collection technology and then realizes the identity authentication of the unidentified user through the collaborative authentication between the local domain management machine, the back-end image management machine, and the cloud server. Compared with the traditional single identity authentication method, our method uses three-party collaborative authentication to avoid the problem of sensor information stealing easily caused by a single authentication method, which makes the user’s identity authentication more secure and effective. The security analysis shows that the method is able to resist multiple attacks and prevent the sensor information from being illegally operated and stolen, protecting the security of the sensor information.

Edge computing is a technology that allows resources to be processed or executed close to the edge of the internet. The interconnected network of devices in the Internet of Things has led to an increased amount of data, increasing internet traffic usage every year. Also, edge computing is driving applications and computing power away from the integrated points to areas close to users, leading to improved performance of the application. Despite the explosive growth of the edge computing paradigm, there are common security vulnerabilities associated with the Internet of Things applications. This paper will evaluate and analyze some of the most common security issues that pose a serious threat to the edge computing paradigm.

The Internet of Things (IoT) enables the integration of data from virtual and physical worlds. It involves smart objects that can understand and react to their environment in a variety of industrial, commercial and household settings. As the IoT expands the number of connected devices, there is the potential to allow cyber-attackers into the physical world in which we live, as they seize on security holes in these new systems. New security issues arise through the heterogeneity  of  IoT  applications and devices and their large-scale deployment.

The future of Internet of Things (IoT) is already upon us. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the ability to provide everyday devices with a way of identification and another way for communication with each other. The spectrum of IoT application domains is very large including smart homes, smart cities, wearables, e-health, etc. Consequently, tens and even hundreds of billions of devices will be connected. Such devices will have smart capabilities to collect, analyze and even make decisions without any human interaction. Security is a supreme requirement in such circumstances, and in particular authentication is of high interest given the damage that could happen from a malicious unauthenticated device in an IoT system. While enjoying the convenience and efficiency that IoT brings to us, new threats from IoT also have emerged. There are increasing research works to ease these threats, but many problems remain open. To better understand the essential reasons of new threats and the challenges in current research, this survey first proposes the concept of “IoT features”. Then, the security and privacy effects of eight IoT new features were discussed including the threats they cause, existing solutions and challenges yet to be solved.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary model, with rising wireless sensor network technology. In IoT network devices are connected and communicated with each other or with human. IoT is extremely available to security assaults. In recent years, the internet of things has a continuous support in research. In the upcoming scenario, IoT will play an important role and changes our day-to-day life, principles as well as industry models. In this paper we provide ensuring security of data exchange, IoT architecture and IoT Security architecture, applications, drawbacks of IoT. We study about various security issues, Problems, normal and Denial of service attacks in different layers, issues and research defy in IoT are also discussed.

The Internet of Things (IoT) became established during the last decade as an emerging technology with considerable potentialities and applicability. Its paradigm of everything connected together penetrated the real world, with smart devices located in several daily appliances. Such intelligent objects are able to communicate autonomously through already existing network infrastructures, thus generating a more concrete integration between real world and computer-based systems. On the downside, the great benefit carried by the IoT paradigm in our life brings simultaneously severe security issues, since the information exchanged among the objects frequently remains unprotected from malicious attackers. The paper at hand proposes COSMOS (Collaborative, Seamless and Adaptive Sentinel for the Internet of Things), a novel sentinel to protect smart environments from cyber threats. Our sentinel shields the IoT devices using multiple defensive rings, resulting in a more accurate and robust protection. Additionally, we discuss the current deployment of the sentinel on a commodity device (i.e., Raspberry Pi). Exhaustive experiments are conducted on the sentinel, demonstrating that it performs meticulously even in heavily stressing conditions. Each defensive layer is tested, reaching a remarkable performance, thus proving the applicability of COSMOS in a distributed and dynamic scenario such as IoT. With the aim of easing the enjoyment of the proposed sentinel, we further developed a friendly and ease-to-use COSMOS App, so that end-users can manage sentinel(s) directly using their own devices (e.g., smartphone).

Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most active and hot topics these days in which most of our everyday objects are connected with each other over internal and external networks. As in any data communication paradigm there are security aspects that should be taken care of. The traditional security mechanisms are usually not applicable in IoT because there are different standards involved, this make the security preservation is one of the main challenges in IoT. According to previous surveys, there are many of security issues in regards to IoT. In this chapter, five issues from the security issues in IoT are discussed; Access Control, Authentication, Privacy, Policy Enforcement, and Trust. After that, major proposed solutions from the literature is listed and compared according to the strength and weakness points for each of them.
