In this paper we give a brief presentation of the approaches we have recently developed on the oxidation of metals. Firstly, we present an analytical model based on non-equilibrium thermodynamics to describe the reaction kinetics present during the oxidation of a metal. Secondly, we present the molecular dynamics results obtained with a code specially tailored to study the oxidation and growth of an oxide film of aluminium. Our simulations present an excellent agreement with experimental results.

The study investigates the pullout strength of self-tapping pedicle screws using analytical, finite element, and experimental methodologies with focus on medical device applications. The stress distribution and failure propagation around implant threads in the synthetic bone during the pullout process, as well as the pullout strength of pedicle screws, are explored. Based on the FEA results, an analytical model for the pullout strength of the pedicle screw is constructed in terms of the synthetic bone material properties, screw size, and implant depth. The characteristics of pullout behavior of self-tapping pedicle screws are discussed. Both the analytical model and finite element results are validated using experimental techniques.

At the present stage of development of the oil and gas industry, considerable attention is paid to methods of increasing oil recovery of productive reservoirs. One of the most popular methods of intensifying oil production today is hydraulic fracturing. The efficiency and success of hydraulic fracturing largely depends on the parameters of the formed fracture; in this regard, the development of methods for evaluating the parameters of hydraulic fracturing fractures is an urgent task. Non-stationary thermometry is a promising area for monitoring the quality of hydraulic fracturing. To date, thermometry is used to localize the locations of multiple fractures in horizontal wells. In this paper, we study the application of non-stationary thermometry for estimating the parameters of a vertical hydraulic fracturing fracture. An analytical model of non-isothermal single-phase fluid filtration in a reservoir with a vertical fracture is developed. To calculate the temperature field in the formation and the fracture, the convective heat transfer equation is used, taking into account the thermodynamic effects (Joule — Thomson and adibatic), for the fracture, the heat and mass transfer between the fracture and the formation area is also taken into account. To assess the correctness of the model, the analytical solution is compared with the results of numerical modeling in the Ansys Fluent software package. The nonstationary temperature field is calculated for the constant sampling mode. It is established that at the initial moment of time after the well start-up, a negative temperature anomaly is formed due to the adiabatic effect, the value of which increases with a decrease in the fracture width. Over time, the temperature of the fluid flowing into the well increases due to the Joule — Thomson effect, and the value of the positive temperature anomaly increases as the width and permeability of the fracture decreases due to an increase in the pressure gradient in it. The developed analytical model can be used to solve inverse problems for estimating hydraulic fracturing parameters based on non-stationary temperature measurements in the wellbore of producing wells.

The temperature field distribution and thermal stress distribution in concrete has been studied by finite elements method to establish the relationship between the thermal stress and the temperature in this paper. The results show that the maximum thermal gradient and the maximum thermal stress in the concrete appears on the direction of greater structural dimension, and the thermal stress value is positively correlated with thermal gradient or saying temperature difference and elastic modulus, and is negatively correlated with the water content and air content.

Aim to the working properties of aviation accessory transmission gear, such as high speed and heavy load, temperature field distribution regularity of standard involute cylindrical gear is analyzed based on indirect coupling analysis method of ANSYS software. And gear surface contact stress distribution regularity under the action of thermal loading and mechanical load is also analyzed. Gear surface real contact condition under working station is analyzed. It is shown from the result that the high speed and heavy loading on the gear teeth produces the bigger temperature gradient, and thermal deformation regularity of gear teeth is determined by temperature field distribution style, while thermal deformation of gear teeth changes contact condition and stress distribution regularity between meshing gear surfaces.
