Objective: To improve reliability and endurance of semiconductor devices by means of heat exchange processes optimization of installations with evaporative air cooling. Methods: Design features analysis of cooling installations was applied. Results: The structural features of “a twophase thermal siphon” for power semiconductor devices were described. Experimental research of power blocks of semiconductor converter installations with “two-phase thermal siphon” coolers was conducted. The values of maximum permissible currents upon the application of possible button-type instrument configurations with such coolers were obtained. Practical importance: Application of “two-phase thermal siphon” evaporative air coolers will make it possible to improve weight-size parameters of converter installations.

Results of fabrication and study of Ba1-xLaxTi1-x/4O3(BLT) ceramics for x within the range 0.001≤x≤0.004 is reported in the present paper. BLT ceramics has a structure based on ABO3–type perovskite, and its properties strongly depend on the chemical comSubscript textposition. The interrelated semiconductor and ferroelectric properties of La-doped BaTiO3ceramics were considered for describing its electrical properties. Dielectric properties were studied in frequency domain by impedance spectroscopy with a Quadtech 1920-type precision LCR meter at room temperature T=RT.

The electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of an electrode can be estimated by means of double layer capacitance (DLC) measurements using impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. In this study, the responses of smooth and porous gold electrodes (chosen as model systems) to both methods are measured and described by physical models. I point out that diffusion limited adsorption processes significantly contribute to the measured responses and thus complicate the estimation of DLCs. Impedance is derived to be in most cases more suitable for measuring DLCs as higher frequencies are available and as contributions of serial resistances and capacitances can be separately evaluated in the frequency domain. The relaxation properties in the frequency domain are shown to display a useful tool to survey the accuracy of the DLC estimation. The DLCs of polished gold electrodes are shown to be proportional to their geometric surface area. From these measurements a specific DLC of 6±2 μF/cm² of gold in perchloric acid is determined, which agrees with the lowest reported values of strongly scattering data in the literature. A handy flow chart for experimentalists to determine electrode capacitances from impedance spectra is proposed.

The functional and structural circuits of an au-tomatic system for temperature control of power devices of a traction semiconductor converter of frequency are developed. The peculiarities of power devices as an object of temperature control are considered, an equivalent circuit of thermal processes substitution in semiconductor keys is offered, a comparative assessment of capacity of power loss in two- and three-level inverters of voltage is carried out. The dynamic properties of an electro-drive of a cooling fan with an asynchronous motor with a system of scalar control are analyzed. The recommendations on choice and computation of temperature control are developed.
