This study aims at comparing the nature and processes of contact between children in foster care and their birth families; the relationship between the existence and quality of contact and foster carers’ burden; and the relationship between the existence or not of contact and the existence of reunification plans. Following a quantitative approach, data have been collected in Portugal and Spain from foster carers and professionals using questionnaires and Zarit's Carer scale. The results show that the existence of contact is not related to carers’ burden or stress, but there is an association between contact and reunification plans. As a consequence, several implications to practice are presented.

This study aims to investigate and explain festival qualities that are applied to festival organizers that affect the destination image and the tourist revisit intention. This research uses a quantitative approach through statistical analysis of PLS-SEM and distributed questionnaires that have been designed to 200 tourists. The findings of this study indicate that the constructs of the variables that shape the quality of the festival, namely program content, convenience, and staff, have a positive and significant effect on the image of the destination. In addition, the relationship between destination image and revisit intention has a positive and significant effect.

Caring for and protecting vulnerable children in foster care continues to be an important realisation of the rights of children in South Africa. The weakening of the extended family and the increasing number of orphaned and vulnerable children give rise to the relevance of non-relative fostering. This article discusses the different sources of support used by female non-relative foster parents when caring for the children. The findings come from a broader doctoral study that explored the experiences of non-relative foster parents. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews and a focus group discussion. The findings indicate that the participants received the same support as relative foster parents, including financial support from the government in foster care grants, support from faith-based organisations, and support from nuclear family members. Most participants were self-supported through personal incomes and savings, which differed from relative foster parents who relied solely on the foster care grant. The participants received limited or no support from social workers or agencies. This article concludes that the type of support available to non-relative foster parents is the same as that for relative foster parents, and it influences the quality of care and placement outcome. With adequate support, the burden of caring is lessened therefore improving the quality of care. Therefore, it is necessary to provide holistic support to non-relative foster parents to secure their willingness to continue caring, thus improving the quality, recruitment, and retention of foster parenting.

The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between quality of care and the loyalty of external users in a private ophthalmic center in Lima, Peru. The method used was a descriptive, cross-correlational, quantitative approach with non-experimental design. The population consisted of 210 external users who received therapies for at least 1 month in an ophthalmologic center located in Lima, Peru; the sample (statistically calculated) consisted of 137 users randomly selected, who responded to a series of reagents through a survey. A questionnaire was used to measure quality of care through SERVPERF model, while loyalty was measured through reagents developed by the authors, based on the scientific theory of Alcaide. Spearman's Rho determined that there is a moderate positive relationship between the quality of care and loyalty (sig. < 0.05; r = 0.594). Likewise, it is determined that there is a positive correlation between the dimensions of tangibility, empathy, responsiveness, security and reliability with the loyalty variable, since the sig. were < 0.05 and the values of r = 0.497, 0.381, 0.342, 0.109 and 0.452, respectively were obtained. Not enough statistical evidence was obtained to find a relationship between the loyalty variable and the security dimension, since a sig. value > 0.05 was obtained. The results found are related to those found by previous authors in other contexts. Finally, we recommend other researchers to carry out similar research internationally, in order to increase the literature on the variables of loyalty and quality of service and generate discusion.

Experiencing ageism has been shown to negatively impact older adults. This study investigated predictors of ageism to examine which are most important in accounting for ageist attitudes. Participants ( N = 419) between the ages of 18 and 86 completed an online survey assessing ageism and several predictors of ageism. Higher levels of anxiety about aging, lower levels of knowledge of aging, and less frequent and lower quality of contact with older adults uniquely predicted ageism beyond the influence of demographic and well-being factors. Anxiety about aging fully mediated the relationship between death anxiety and ageism, and the relationship between attitudes toward own aging and ageism. Moderation analyses showed that knowledge of aging buffered the impact of anxiety about aging on ageism such that low knowledge of aging and high anxiety about aging were particularly impactful in predicting ageism in younger adults, as compared with older adults.

The poor quality of health services rendered to the half million foster children in this country is well documented elsewhere in this issue.1 This is an area of pediatric care of which we cannot be proud. Schor's "unfortunate discovery that children who have been under the protective and hopefully remedial care of the foster care system continues to demonstrate evidence of inadequate health supervision" must serve as a stimulus for changes. I strongly agree with Schor that the pediatric literatore has contributed to the problem by failing to describe adequately the special problems inherent in children in foster care—a population at high risk.

Abstract:INDICATORS OF THE QUALITY OF THE FOSTER CAREOne of the difficulties in choosing the families who come to foster care is related to the lack of studies that indicate the features needed to support optimal integrated development of children in foster care and also help in the process both the family as the child to generate the necessary resources. The sample consisted of 53 families with 80 children in foster care for three years. The aim was to identify characteristics that allow promote the development of the child. The results underline the importance of establishing secure links between the child and the foster family, the integration of the child in the foster family (the emergence of a sense of belonging), the existence of children in the foster family and a sense of satisfaction with welcoming, by the foster family. Keywords: Foster family, bonding, integration, development.
