In France, the nuclear industry has developed a substantial program for decommissioning plants and nuclear installations, and for remediating and rehabilitating industrial sites. The Commission for the Establishment of Analysis Methods (CETAMA) is a unit of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) whose main objective is to improve the quality of analysis and measurement results in the nuclear field. Analysis is the primary tool for monitoring the spread of nuclear material. This document shows that sampling, in close relation with measurement techniques, is a factor of potential gain and risk reduction for site remediation, decommissioning, and rehabilitation projects.

This paper shows the results obtained in field analysis performed at the Tamis River, starting from the settlement Jasa Tomic - border between Serbia and Romania to Pancevo - confluence of Tamis into the Danube. The Tamis is a 359 km long river rising in the southern Carpathian Mountains. It flows through the Banat region and flows into the Danube near Pancevo. During the years the water quality of the river has severely deteriorated and badly affected the environment and the river ecosystem. In situ measurements enabled determination of physico-chemical parameters of water quality of the Tamis River on every 400 m of the watercourse, such as: water temperature, pH value, electrical conductivity, contents of dissolved oxygen and oxygen saturation. The main reason of higher pollution of Tamis is seen in connection to DTD hydro system. Sampling was performed at 7 points with regard to color, turbidity, total hardness, alkalinity, concentration of ammonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, iron, chlorides and sulphates in samples. The aim of the present work was to evaluate water quality in the Tamis River taking into account significant pollution, which originates from settlements, industry and agriculture, and to suggest appropriate preventive measures to further pollution decreasing of the river's water.

Vacuum diffusion bonding of as-extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy was investigated according to atomic diffusion theory. The effects of the diffusion temperature and holding time on the quality of the bonding joint are investigated by means of microstructure analysis, shearing strength test and microhardness testing. The shearing test results showed that the maximum shearing strength reached 51.95MPa with the temperature of 470°C and the holding time of 90min. And the diffusion temperature and holding time have a great effect on the quality of the bonding joints. The microhardness measurement results showed that the microhardness value at the bonding joint was maximum.

A new inspection standard that enhanced quality of operating /maintenance management of the nuclear power plant was introduced in 2009. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster (Mar. 11th 2011), the situation surrounding the nuclear industry has dramatically changed, and the requirement for maintenance management of nuclear power plants is pushed for more stringent nuclear safety regulations. The new inspection standard requires enhancing equipment maintenance. It is necessary to enhance maintenance of not only equipment but also piping and pipe support. In this paper, we built the methodology for enhancing maintenance plan by rationalizing and visualizing of piping and pipe support based on the “Maintenance Program” in cooperating with 3D-CAD system.

<p>Instrumented UAS (unmanned aerial systems, drones) can substantially enhance the capabilities for the investigation of air pollutants, when equipped with the appropriate and customized air pollution measurement systems. Important advantages can be found in the exploration of vertical and horizontal pollutant profiles as well as in the determination of fugitive emissions. The HSD Laboratory for Environmental Measurement Techniques (UMT) has developed a series of different multicopter UAS for various measurement tasks and payloads. Additionally, different commercial UAS are used by UMT. The multicopter UAS are equipped, depending on the measurement task, with different specifically adopted lightweight measurement systems for aerosols (PM10, PM2.5, PM1, UFP, PNC, number size distributions) or gases like O<sub>3</sub>, SO<sub>2</sub>, NO<sub>X</sub>, CO<sub>2</sub> and VOCs. All measurement systems were intercompared with certified standard measurement equipment before use to assure the quality of the measurement results. Moreover, physical samples of aerosols can be taken during the flight, which enables a chemical or REM analysis after the flight.</p><p>Additionally, UMT developed an on-line data transmission system, which allows the transmission of measurement data during the flights from the UAS to the ground for continuous monitoring. In this way concentration plumes can be tracked and hotspots can be pinpointed during the flight. This online data transmission system is independent of commercial platforms, can work on different radio frequencies in a push mode (presently on 2.4 GHz) and communicates with RS232 and I<sup>2</sup>C interfaces. Within several intercomparison studies this online data transmission proved a high reliability and correctness of transmitted data.</p><p>In addition to technical details of the UAS and instrumentation we present in this contribution the results of different measurement campaigns based on our UAS measurements:</p><ul><li>Investigations of emissions from the Duesseldorf airport combining upwind and downwind UAS measurements. These investigations became of special interest, as due to the reduced air traffic caused by the Corona pandemia now single aircraft starts and landings could be monitored with their emissions at elevated altitudes.</li> <li>Investigations of vertical concentration profiles above the city of Duesseldorf, which could be influenced by industrial sites in the north of Duesseldorf as well as by the Duesseldorf airport.</li> <li>Investigations of vertical and horizontal pollution distributions near, at and around industrial sites in the Rhine Ruhr area, especially of metal industry plants and chemical plants.</li> </ul><p>These examples highlight the capabilities of UAS measurements, which will be further enhanced by planned simultaneous use of several UAS in parallel and joint tasks.</p>

The concept of complexity is used in many areas of computer science and software engineering. Software complexity metrics can be used to evaluate and compare quality of software development and maintenance processes and their products. Complexity management and measurement is especially important in novel programming technologies and paradigms, such as aspect-oriented programming, generative programming, and metaprogramming, where complex multilanguage and multi-aspect program specifications are developed and used. This paper analyzes complexity management and measurement techniques, and proposes five complexity metrics (Relative Kolmogorov Complexity, Metalanguage Richness, Cyclomatic Complexity, Normalized Difficulty, Cognitive Difficulty) for measuring complexity of metaprograms at information, metalanguage, graph, algorithm, and cognitive dimensions.

The result of a measurement serves as a parameter in a variety of applications, such as: the sale of products; the inspection of materials in relation to specifications/ limits set by a standard; providing support for a judicial ruling; improving the specific quality of products; estimating profitability and making comparisons with a view to mutual recognition between metrology laboratories and systems. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the relevance and applications of the ISO GUM 95 in the fuel analyses conducted by the LABCOM at the EQ/UFRJ, presenting results tables and discussions. The paper further discusses the strategic importance of metrological reliability of measurement results and of the actions of a laboratory within the context of the science of metrology in Brazil.

Introduction. The article addresses background gamma radiation in residential premises of apartment buildings in Vladivostok. This study is based on earlier research undertakings focused on the sick building syndrome (SBS), which proves its high relevance. The research is focused on the intensity of background gamma radiation in the residential premises of apartment buildings in Vladivostok. New data obtained in the course of the field experiments, the scale of their analysis, the coverage of substantive issues concerning radiation intensity and its monitoring in residential buildings guarantee the novelty of this research project. These findings also have a practical value that deals with environmental safety. Materials and methods. Onsite examinations were conducted in the form of background gamma radiation measurements taken in versatile apartment buildings, built at different times and made of different materials. Results. This section contains analytical information about the lack of influence of the location of apartment buildings on background radiation inside the apartments examined within the framework of this research project. Measurement results represent a range of values depending on construction materials used. Principal regularities, derived from the measurement results, are based on the time of operation of residential buildings, which is of practical importance. Conclusions. Patterns of influence of building parameters on background radiation inside apartments allow to assess the condition of residential buildings. Background radiation information can be entered into BIM databases and used to formulate the approach to the design of buildings and urban infrastructure so that they were focused on their residents and users. Background radiation research findings, entered into the database and contributed to design algorithms which are customized to the needs of urban residents, will enable designers to project the overall quality of the living environment encompassing the built environment analyzed in this article and other nearby buildings and structures located in Vladivostok.

In this paper results of comparative study of the optical power of soft contact lenses (SCL) made of standard material for SCL and nanophotonic materials with different measurement techniques used for the final contact lens controllers are presented. Three types of nanophotonic soft contact lenses were made of standard polymacon material (Soleko SP38TM) incorporated with fullerene C60, fullerol C60(OH)24 and fullerene metformin hydroxylate C60(OH)12(OC4N5H10)12. For the purposes of material characterization for potential application as soft contact lenses, the optical properties of the soft contact lenses were measured by Rotlex and Nidek device. With Rotlex device the following optical results were obtained: optical power and map of defects, while with the Nidek device: optical power, cylinder power and cylinder axis. The obtained values of optical power and map of defects showed that the optical power of synthesized nanophotonic soft contact lens is same to the nominal value, while this was not the case for the standard soft contact lens. Also, the quality of the nanophotonic soft contact lens is better than the standard one. Hence, it is possible to synthesize new nanophotonic soft contact lenses of desired optical characteristics, implying possibilities for their application in this field.

BACKGROUND Poor diet, alcohol use and tobacco smoking have been identified as strong determinants of chronic disease, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancers. Smartphones have the potential to provide a real-time, pervasive, unobtrusive and cost-effective way to measure these health behaviours and deliver instant feedback to users. Despite this, the validity of using smartphones to measure these behaviours is largely unknown. OBJECTIVE The aim of our review was to identify existing smartphone—based approaches to measure these health behaviours and critically appraise the quality of their measurement properties. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of the Ovid MEDLINE, Embase (Elsevier), Cochrane Library (Wiley), PsychINFO (EBSCOhost), CINAHL (EBSCOHost), Web of Science (Clarivate), SPORTDiscus (EBSCOhost), and IEEE Xplore Digital Library databases in March 2020. Studies that were written in English, reported measuring diet, alcohol use and/or tobacco use via a smartphone, and reported on at least one measurement property (eg validity, reliability and/or responsiveness) were eligible. Outcomes were summarised in a narrative synthesis. This systematic review is registered with PROSPERO, identifier CRD42019122242. RESULTS Of 12,261 records, 72 studies describing the measurement properties of smartphone—based approaches to measure diet (n=48), alcohol use (n=16) and tobacco use (n=8) were identified and included in the current review. Across the health behaviours, 18 different measurement techniques were used within smartphones. The measurement properties most commonly examined were construct validity, measurement error and criterion validity. Results varied by behaviour and measurement approach and the methodological quality of studies varied widely. Most studies investigating the measurement of diet and alcohol received ‘very good’ or ‘adequate’ methodological quality ratings (72.9%, 35/48, and 68.8%, 11/16, respectively), while only one study (12.5%, 1/8) investigating the measurement of tobacco use received a ‘very good’ or ‘adequate’ rating. CONCLUSIONS This review is the first to bring together evidence regarding the different types of smartphone—based approaches currently used to measure key behavioural risk factors for chronic disease (diet, alcohol use and tobacco use) and the quality of their measurement properties. Nineteen measurement techniques were identified, the majority of which assessed dietary behaviours (67%, n=48/72). Some evidence exists to support the reliability and validity of using smartphones to assess these behaviours, however results varied by behaviour and measurement approach. The methodological quality of included studies also varied. Overall, more high-quality studies validating smartphone based approaches against criterion measures are needed. More research investigating the use of smartphones to assess alcohol and tobacco use, and objective measurement approaches is also needed.
