NUKEM monitor FAMOS is designed to measure the burn up of fuel assemblies (FA’s) and allows the calculation of the content of fissile material and other actinides. The knowledge of the isotopic composition and activities of FA’s is required for a safe handling and storage of the elements. The monitor analyses the measurement results on the basis of burn up calculations which improve the quality of the results, with respect to previous systems, which did not use those.

This paper presents a novel approach for the characterization of microwave properties of carbon-based nanopowders, decorated or not with magnetic nanoparticles. Their microwave parameters, dielectric constant, electrical conductivity, and complex magnetic permeability are extracted from measurements performed using a single transmission line acting as a test cell. Two geometries of transmission line were tested, and successful results were obtained with each one of them. The measurement results are assessed by a phenomenological model enabling to fit the measurement of the dielectric constant and conductivity, providing an insight on the compacity quality of the powder sample. Also, the extraction of the permeability is validated by the detection of a ferromagnetic resonance showing a linear dependence on external DC magnetic field.

Abstract Pumpkin is widely used as a valuable food source and is gaining the attention of healthcare consumers. Dried powdering pumpkin is an alternative way to increase the consumption. For these reasons, a sound knowledge of the processes for drying and powdering of pumpkin is needed. Therefore, the present review summarizes data from the literature and points out promising areas for further research. This review focused mainly on various processes of dried pumpkin powder, including pre-treatment techniques which can influence the quality of dried product. Impacts of drying and storage methods on quality changes were also revealed in dried pumpkin powder such as the loss of color, changes in texture or an off-flavor and decreases in carotenoids or other nutrients. Moreover, this review also collected the basic information about characterization of pumpkin fruit and also chemical characteristics and nutritional values of pumpkin. Finally, the review pointed out areas for future research to further elucidate the best methods of dried pumpkin powdering for the local companies.

The efforts that should be made to maintain the quality of fish is by using antimicrobial compounds, one of which is chitosan. In this research, characterization of chitosan from shell snail (Achatina fulica) has a water content of 5.07%, ash content of 1.8% and the degree of deacetylation (DD) 75.13%. The use of chitosan in this study was to determine the optimal conditions on chitosan concentration and storage time of mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) and catfish (Clarias batrachus) from the microbiological and organoleptic aspects. This research used a variation of the concentration of chitosan was 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5% dissolved in 1% acetic acid. Observations were do with variation the storage time 10 hours, 15 hours, 20 hours and 25 hours and the provision of chitosan solution by soaking and spraying with the observation parameters Total Volatile Base (TVB), organoleptic and pH of fish. Based on the analysis, the results showed that the maximum concentration of chitosan on mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) and catfish (Clarias batrachus) is 1,5% and treatment by means of immersion is the best treatment. The use of chitosan solution on mackerel (Rastrelliger sp) survived 20 hours while catfish (Clarias batrachus) survived 15 hours.

ABSTRACTSimulations of Ge+ and C+ implantations in Si were performed to study bandgap grading in the SiGeC/Si heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT). Although no bandgap discontinuity was observed at the base-emitter junction, it was found that a wide-bandgap emitter and a narrow-bandgap base with proper bandgap grading were obtainable with implantation. Electrical characterization of SiGe and SiGeC diodes formed by Ge+ and C+ implantations in Si was carried out. Current-voltage (I-V) measurement results confirm that carbon doping improves the crystalline quality of the germanium-implanted layer. On the other hand, capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements indicate that both germanium and carbon implantations result in considerable dopant deactivation.

Ultrawideband (UWB) waveforms achieve excellent spatial resolution for better characterization of targets in tomographic imaging applications compared to narrowband waveforms. In this paper, two-dimensional tomographic images of multiple scattering objects are successfully obtained using the diffraction tomography approach by transmitting multiple independent and identically distributed (iid) UWB random noise waveforms. The feasibility of using a random noise waveform for tomography is investigated by formulating a white Gaussian noise (WGN) model using spectral estimation. The analytical formulation of object image formation using random noise waveforms is established based on the backward scattering, and several numerical diffraction tomography simulations are performed in the spatial frequency domain to validate the analytical results by reconstructing the tomographic images of scattering objects. The final image of the object based on multiple transmitted noise waveforms is reconstructed by averaging individually formed images which compares very well with the image created using the traditional Gaussian pulse. Pixel difference-based measure is used to analyze and estimate the image quality of the final reconstructed tomographic image under various signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Also, preliminary experiment setup and measurement results are presented to assess the validation of simulation results.

Characterization of measurement uncertainty as a measure of quality of results, and obtained in the metrology of a wide range of applications. At all levels of certified calibration laboratory measurement, measurement standards of the establishment of technical reports, or identification certificate issued by the calibration and so on, require a higher level in the measuring results are given to provide the corresponding uncertainty. Measuring the quality of the results of the measurement results is a measure of the credibility of an important basis. In this paper, through concrete examples and laboratory measurement of electrical parameters of the light source of the data obtained, the Evaluation of Uncertainty.

In this paper, we analyze the impact on isotopic composition of spent nuclear fuel VVER-1000, due to various operational conditions, such as concentration of boric acid dissolved in water, the temperature of the fuel, and others. In addition, the impact that is caused by the technological allowances applied while manufacturing fuel assemblies that were analyzed by the mass fuel and its enrichment. The calculations were performed on models of the fuel assemblies of reactor VVER-1000. The basis was taken of a typical fuel Assembly of the Russian TVEL suppliers and the new fuel assemblies of the American company Westinghouse.
