On the observation of structures by high resolution electron microscopy, recording materials with high sensitivity and high quality is awaited, especially for the study of radiation sensitive specimens. Such recording material should be easily combined with the minimum dose system and cryoprotection method. Recently a new recording material, imaging plate, comes to be widely used in X-ray radiography and also in electron microscopy, because of its high sensitivity, high quality and the easiness in handling the images with a computer. The properties of the imaging plate in 100 to 400 kV electron microscopes were already discussed and the effectiveness was revealed. It is demanded to study the applicability of the imaging plate to high voltage electron microscopy. The quality of the imaging plate was investigated using an imaging plate system (JEOL EM-HSR100) equipped in a new Kyoto 1000kV electron microscope. In the system both the imaging plate and films can be introduced together into the camera chamber. Figure 1 shows the effect of accelerating voltage on read-out signal intensities from the imaging plate. The characteristic of commercially available imaging plates is unfortunately optimized for 100 to 200 keV electrons and then for 600 to 1000 keV electrons the signal is reduced. In the electron dose range of 10−13 to 10−10 C/cm2, the signal increases linearly with logarithm of electron dose in all acceralating volatges.

Fierce competition in increasing market share growth prompts companies to strive to create a memorable brand identity. One common method adopted by some companies is using a video advertisement, which contains the message they want to convey about their product or brand. This message is intended to persuade people who see the advertisement to buy their product. In doing so, companies usually use the visual, linguistic, spatial and other semiotic resources, often referred to as a semiotic mode. Through the case study of Innisfree’s video advertisement “Brand History,” we analyze how Innisfree uses linguistic, spatial, and visual mode for creating a message that enables consumers to remember and to persuade them buy its product. Our findings show that the message in the video advertisement is that Innisfree is a beauty product that upholds nature as its ingredients, has high quality, and preserves the environment where it takes its ingredients. Key Words: Advertisement, Persuasion, Modes, Verbal and Non-verbal expressions.

AbstractMany animals inhabiting deep-sea vents are energetically dependent on chemosynthetic endosymbionts, but how such symbiont community interacts with host, and whether other nutritional sources are available to such animals remain unclear. To reveal the genomic basis of symbiosis in the vent snail Alviniconcha marisindica, we sequenced high-quality genomes of the host and gill campylobacterial endosymbionts, as well as metagenome of the gut microbiome. The gill endosymbiont has a streamlined genome for efficient chemoautotrophy, but also shows metabolic heterogeneity among populations. Inter- and intra-host variabilities among endosymbiont populations indicate the host poses low selection on gill endosymbionts. Virulence factors and genomic plasticity of the endosymbiont provide advantages for cooperating with host immunity to maintain mutualism and thriving in changing environments. In addition to endosymbiosis, the gut and its microbiome expand the holobiont’s utilisation of energy sources. Host-microbiota mutualism contributes to a highly flexible holobiont that can excel in various extreme environments.

In this era of intense competition, both world-wide and domestic, business firms of all sizes and varieties are concerned with the market-share figures they achieve in the marketplace to predict the volume of production and demand forecasts of spare parts. Buyers' purchase frequency varies with time when machines complete their warranty period and subsequently buyers switch towards spurious spare parts for various reasons including cheaper prices. There is a prominent share of un-organized sector (spurious markets) in meeting the demand of spare parts especially in earth moving equipment. They imitate the original parts and sell similar parts of local vendors and supply the same at much cheaper prices. To estimate the impact of spurious spare parts market of ABC Earth Moving Equipments Pvt. Ltd, primary survey of one of the whole sale market of earth moving equipment in Delhi, India selling spurious spare parts was conducted. It was found that there is significant impact in terms of losses to the company due to selling of spurious spare parts by this market.

A bipolar triangular wave current pulse inverter for shallow TEM survey is described. It can generate a peak current more than 10A and the PRF of the bipolar current pulse is between 1Hz and 10kHz. The proposed inverter contains a high voltage source circuit for the rising edge and a Zener diodes circuit with constant voltage clamping for the falling edge. Measurement results are presented, which show the high quality triangular wave current pulse with linear rising edge and rapidly turnoff falling edge.

Several years ago, IBM established its Smarter Planet vision: to bring a new level of intelligence to how the world works—to how every person, business, organisation, government, natural system, and man-made system interacts. Mr Haake will present a case study from our collaboration with Statoil on integrated operations. Statoil defines integrated operations (IO) as: collaboration across disciplines, companies, organisational and geographical boundaries—made possible by real-time data and new work processes—to reach safer and better decisions faster. To help identify the methods, technologies and work processes necessary to integrate its operations, Statoil appointed a research and development consortium consisting of ABB, IBM, SKF and Aker Kvaerner. The Statoil TAIL IO project was aimed at improving operations at fields approaching the end of their life-spans—the stage where production rate is declining, the facilities are aging, and the cost of operation is high. The result is a set of integrated operations solutions based on industry standards that offer great promise. “Our efforts to bring more integration and collaboration to our production processes are critical to the future of the offshore industry. IBM has shown a strong commitment to helping us achieve this goal.”—Adolfo Henriquez, head of Integrated Operations, Statoil. IBM Research, is the world’s largest private research institution. The IBM annual research and development budget is nearly $6 Billion. IBM is also an active member and participant in the development and leadership of multiple petroleum industry standards bodies: Mimosa and Open Operations & Maintenance Integrated Operations of the High North (IOHN) Energistics, coordinating WITSML and PRODML.
