Thermoplastic starch/butyl glycol ester copolymer/polylactic acid (TPS/PBSA/PLA) biodegradable composites were prepared by melt-mixing. The structure, microstructure, mechanical properties and heat resistance of the TPS/PBSA/PLA composites were studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), tensile test and thermogravimetry tests, respectively. The results showed that PBSA or PLA could bind to TPS by hydrogen bonding. SEM analysis showed that the composite represents an excellent dispersion and satisfied two-phase compatibility when the PLA, TPS and PBSA blended by a mass ration of 10, 30, and 60. The mechanical properties and the heat resistance of TPS/PBSA/PLA composite were improved by adding PLA with content less than 10%, according to the testing results.

Photosensitive resins used in three-dimensional (3D) printing are characterized by high forming precision and fast processing speed; however, they often possess poor mechanical properties and heat resistance. In this study, we report a photocurable bismaleimide ink with excellent comprehensive performance for stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing. First, the main chain of bismaleimide with an amino group (BDM) was synthesized, and then, the glycidyl methacrylate was grafted to the amino group to obtain the bismaleimide oligomer with an unsaturated double bond. The oligomers were combined with reaction diluents and photo-initiators to form photocurable inks that can be used for SLA 3D printing. The viscosity and curing behavior of the inks were studied, and the mechanical properties and heat resistance were tested. The tensile strength of 3D-printed samples based on BDM inks could reach 72.6 MPa (166% of that of commercial inks), glass transition temperature could reach 155 °C (205% of that of commercial inks), and energy storage modulus was 3625 MPa at 35 °C (327% of that of commercial inks). The maximum values of T-5%, T-50%, and Tmax of the 3D samples printed by BDM inks reached 351.5, 449.6, and 451.9 °C, respectively. These photocured BDM inks can be used to produce complex structural components and models with excellent mechanical and thermal properties, such as car parts, building models, and pipes.

The article presents the results of a study of the effect of milled and chopped carbon fibers, with an average particle length of 0.2 and , respectively, on the mechanical properties of polyphenylene sulfide and its heat resistance. It was found that the introduction of carbon fibers leads to a significant decrease in the melt flow rate. It was shown that after a sharp decrease in impact strength at 10 % content of carbon fibers, its inverse improvement occurs with an increase in the filler content. Composites containing carbon fibers with length demonstrate higher impact strength. The introduction of a filler leads to a significant increase in the elastic modulus and strength of polyphenylene sulfide and its heat resistance.

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) and long glass fiber (LGF) were used to prepare LGF/TPU master batch for increasing the mechanical properties and heat resistance of PVC. It turned out that addition of LGF/TPU contributed to improvement in toughness of PVC but the heat resistance of PVC didn’t increase very evidently. The heat resistance and morphology were observed by vicat test and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) proved that incorporation of LGF/TPU into PVC changed the morphology of the composites and correlated well with the mechanical properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed that both the glass transition temperature and the storage modulus of PVC increased with the addition of LGF/TPU master batch; the presence of a single Tg indicated that each component of composites was miscible. In this study, the combination properties of the composites with 24wt% LGF was the best proportion in the range of 0-30 phr LGF, because it had the best mechanical properties and heat resistance.

Three kinds of reinforcing fillers (i.e. carbon black N330, carbon black N880 and carbon-white) were used to study effect of the reinforcing fillers on the mechanical properties of NBR materials. The NBR materials with various reinforcing fillers were fabricated, and the mechanical property tests were performed in this work. The results show that the carbon black N330 made the NBR material have better tensile strength, hardness, elongation and compression elastic modulus compared to the carbon black N880 and the carbon-white, while the carbon-white made NBR material have better heat resistance, tear strength and elongation compared to the carbon black N330 and the carbon black N880. In addition, the tensile strength, tear strength, elongation and the heat resistance property of the NBR materials increased significantly with the increase of the carbon-white, but the compression elastic modulus decreased with the increase of the carbon-white.

This paper discussed the effect of different blending ratio with BNR and ACM on the mechanical properties, heat resistance, low temperature resistance and oil resistance of coat-metal sealing gasket. The result showed that the comprehensive properties of the NBR/ACM blends at the ratio of 85/15 were preferable to the NBR and ACM, the low temperature resistance and oil resistance of NBR are taken into account. The cost of the blends were lower than the ACM. The blends can be used for coat-metal sealing gasket instead of NBR.
