Intravenous drug use is both a common aspect of the pre-imprisonment lifestyles of many American prisoners and a leading risk factor for contracting HIV—the virus that causes AIDS. Moreover, incarcerated inmates frequently engage in behavior that can spread the disease, particularly homosexual activity and intravenous drug use. Correctional officials face increasing pressure to protect inmates and staff from HIV infection, and some have responded by implementing policies requiring all inmates to undergo HIV testing and by housing HIV-positive inmates in separate units. Screening and segregation policies, however, have been challenged on constitutional grounds by HIV-positive prisoners. This article examines the leading constitutional developments in this emerging area of law and finds that most courts so far have been inclined to reject constitutional challenges to mandatory testing and segregation policies. There are enough unsettled issues, however, to warrant expanded appellate review and eventual U.S. Supreme Court resolution of the key constitutional questions.

Monitoring strategy of antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis adherence among serodiscordant couple  Antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been recommended as HIV prevention but poor medical adherence can cause suboptimal therapy. This study explored the strategies of monitoring PrEP adherence among the serodiscordant couples. This systematic review based on 4 data bases (Scopus, Pubmed, Ebsco and Sage Journal), included clinical trial studies articles between 2013-2018, in English, and available in full-text. Papers, which not met the inclusion criteria, will be excluded. Keywords used in this study are ‘serodiscordant couple’ AND ‘method’ OR ‘strategy’ OR ‘approach’ AND ‘pre-exposure prophylaxis intention’ OR ‘pre-exposure prophylaxis adherence’. This study discovered various strategies applied based on the type of delivering process, the variance of dose, and variance of preference of the couple. Preference of PrEP dose and type of application related to heterosexual or homosexual orientation and their social commitment. The paper explains the advantage of M-health and biomarker level monitoring.

As a queer bildungsroman, Maurice has a particular way of managing the relation between the body and the soul. Forster's exploration of the queer relationship between body and soul took place at a time when there was a battle over the nature of the soul, often defensive against materialism: concepts of identity and selfhood were undergoing radical contestations and the word 'soul' is a resonant term in modernist novels. How did emerging discourses, such as those of Havelock Ellis, Edward Carpenter, and many others, about homosexual orientation relate to these contemporary discourses around the self? The chapter focuses on two passages about body and soul, whose textual genesis reveals problems of phrasing, as Forster’s unprecedented investigation of sexuality takes him to the edge of identity. It then examines how certain spaces, such as windows and thresholds, become symbolic zones of transgressive encounters between inner and outer, soul and body. It concludes by showing how Forster avoids drawing up any consistent ‘doctrine’ of body and soul. As a work of fiction in which different visions of the world come into conflict with each other, Maurice is a unique and vital witness of transforming discourses about homosexuality in the early twentieth century.

In schools today discrimination based on sexual orientation takes place on a regular basis. This form of discrimination leads to aggression towards learners perceived to be homosexual, as well as towards those with a homosexual orientation. For more than 15 years South Africa has been a democratic country with laws that protect learners who have a homosexual orientation. Nevertheless, aggression and discrimination towards these learners still occur in schools. Aggression often leads to verbal and physical bullying of the victims by perpetrators. The objectives of this research were to explore and describe Grade 11 learners’ experiences of aggression towards learners perceived to be homosexual as well as those with a homosexual orientation in an independent secondary school environment. The research design was qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual in nature. The data for this investigation consisted of essays based on a published newspaper photograph, phenomenological group interviews, observations and field notes. Tesch’s method of data analysis was used, and an independent coder assisted. Three themes were identified, discussed and supported by a literature control: that learners experience that it is right and acceptable to have a homosexual orientation; that they experience ambivalence towards homosexual orientation of learners; and experienced feelings that it is wrong to have a homosexual orientation. Recommended guidelines are provided to address aggression towards learners perceived to be homosexual and those with a homosexual orientation.

The contemporary church has been challenged to legitimize homosexuality and even to ordain homosexual persons. Yet scriptural concepts lead the church to approve sexual expression only within the framework of heterosexual marriage. By exploring concepts of sexual development and examining the church's ethical stance on homosexuality, the authors show how homosexual orientation can be approached within a supportive Christian ministry while adhering to the church's traditional values. Specific pastoral guidelines on the issue of homosexuality are offered.
