A suite of eight foliar venation characteristics from two closely related sections of Vaccinium L., sect. Macropelma Klotzsch and sect. Myrtillus Dumortier, were analyzed to assess the level of similarity between these sister sections, address the questionable classification of Vaccinium cereum (L.f) Forster, and assess the diagnostic ability of venation characteristics. Our analysis revealed no significant differences in foliar venation characteristics between V. cereum and the Hawaiian species from sect. Macropelma. In addition, all the leaves of V. cereum examined contained the attenuated extended bundle sheath system as found in other representatives from sect. Macropelma. Taximetric analysis showed that these quantitative foliar venation characters were diagnostic at the sectional level but not at the species level. A cluster analysis of 108 operational taxonomic units did separate the two sections but did not discriminate among the 12 individual species. However, a similar taximetric analysis using the character means for each species (for the eight foliar characters), which "smoothed out" the variation due to environmental plasticity, produced a dendrogram which closely resembled the currently accepted Vaccinium classification. Although further investigations into the constancy and reliability of foliar venation characters in the remaining sections of Vaccinium are desirable, our results clearly show that these quantitative vegetative foliar characters do have diagnostic value and can be utilized in taximetric analyses. Key words: Vaccinium, venation, leaf, systematics.

This article presents the results of an empirical study of the characteristics of limited and open access social orders in terms of North, Wallis and Weingast. The first part of the paper identifies the main features of each type of social orders and provides a comparative analysis of them based on the doorstep conditions. Also, the connection between the theories of social orders and institutions according to Acemoglu and Robinson is considered and a brief overview of research developing the ideas of North, Wallis and Weingast is given. In the second part of the publication an empirical study of social orders is carried out through cluster analysis of international indices that are used as a proxy for the characteristics of social orders. As a result, the classification of countries is performed and those that meet the doorstep conditions for the transition to open access order are identified.

Urban green spaces of cities are crucial elements of city structure that ensure habitat for species and ecological functionality of habitat patches, maintain biodiversity, and provide environmental services. However, detailed maps intended for planning and improving the existing network require a quick and effective technique for assessing the possibilities. Multispectral imagery is an accessible source for species-level classification of urban trees. Using a multispectral image from the WorldView–2 satellite sensor, we classified six of the most common urban tree species in Debrecen, Hungary. Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers were applied to different numbers of the MNF-transformed bands. The best overall accuracy was achieved with the ML algorithm applied to the first four transformed bands (75.1%), and with the SVM algorithm applied to eight bands (71.0%). In general, ML performed better than SVM. Despite the relatively low number of spectral bands, we achieved moderately good accuracy for basic vegetation mapping, which can be used in spatial planning and decision making. In a future interdisciplinary research study, we could merge the classification results with the dust adsorption capacity of individual species to assess the reduction of dust pollution by urban trees.

For years the separation of carcinoma and sarcoma and the subclassification of sarcomas has been based on the appearance of the tumor cells and their microscopic growth pattern and information derived from certain histochemical and special stains. Although this method of study has produced good agreement among pathologists in the separation of carcinoma from sarcoma, it has given less uniform results in the subclassification of sarcomas. There remain examples of neoplasms of different histogenesis, the classification of which is questionable because of similar cytologic and growth patterns at the light microscopic level; i.e. amelanotic melanoma versus carcinoma and occasionally sarcoma, sarcomas with an epithelial pattern of growth simulating carcinoma, histologically similar mesenchymal tumors of different histogenesis (histiocytoma versus rhabdomyosarcoma, lytic osteogenic sarcoma versus rhabdomyosarcoma), and myxomatous mesenchymal tumors of diverse histogenesis (myxoid rhabdo and liposarcomas, cardiac myxoma, myxoid neurofibroma, etc.)

The paper deals with comparative analysis of occupations in the regional labor market. Occupation is treated as a multi-dimensional space of characte- ristics, whereas a scalar form of a characteristic makes it possible to carry out a comparative analysis of occupations. Using cluster analysis of a pilot region indicators five meaningfully interpretable clusters of occupations were identified, reflecting their regional specificity.

Unsupervised learning in machine learning divides data into several groups. The observations in the same group have similar characteristics and the observations in the different groups have the different characteristics. In the paper, we classify data by partitioning around medoids which have some advantages over the k-means clustering. We apply it to baseball players in Korea Baseball League. We also apply the principal component analysis to data and draw the graph using two components for axis. We interpret the meaning of the clustering graphically through the procedure. The combination of the partitioning around medoids and the principal component analysis can be used to any other data and the approach makes us to figure out the characteristics easily.

The article considers the types, forms, mechanisms and classification of mergers and acquisitions, identifies their positive effects, and studies the tactics of acquisitions. The analysis of anti-capture measures: active and preventive methods of protection against hostile mergers and acquisitions. A comparative analysis of anti-capture measures with acquisitions tactics was carried out, the advantages and disadvantages of their application were identified.

The article considers false information systems and conducts their comparative analysis, considering the tasks that they perform, which technologies rely on, and what role is played in protecting information when they are used. The goal is to identify relevant false information systems, to formulate criteria in accordance with which classification is carried out. The problems of false information systems are identified, further work in this topic is determined.

The problem of determining the repair sections of the main oil pipeline is solved, basing on the classification of images using distance functions and the clustering principle, The criteria characterizing the cluster are determined by certain given values, based on a comparison with which the defect is assigned to a given cluster, procedures for the redistribution of defects in cluster zones are provided, and the cluster zones parameters are being changed. Calculations are demonstrating the range of defect density variation depending on pipeline sections and the universal capabilities of linear objects configuration with arbitrary density, provided by cluster analysis.
