The equilibrium sorption of a purified direct dye on natural cotton yarn has been determined over a range of dye-bath concentrations (20 to 175 mgm. of dye per litre of solution) and temperatures (75° to 90 °C.). The liquor-to-yarn ratio in the dye bath, which contained sodium chloride (4.00 gm. per litre), was sufficiently high to permit the concentration of dye in solution to remain essentially constant throughout a dyeing experiment. The dye was removed from the skeins using a pyridine–ethanol–water solution, and the concentration of dye in the latter determined spectrophotometrically.Differential heats of dyeing may be calculated from the results obtained. For an equilibrium sorption of 475 mgm. of Calcodur Blue 4GL per 100 gm. of natural cotton yarn, the value of 15 kgm-cal. per mole was found, and it is shown that the differential heat of dyeing increases as the value of the equilibrium sorption decreases. The results are interpreted in the light of the modern view of the structure of cellulose.

Aim and Objective: Ultrafine Ag/ZnO nanotetrapods (AZNTP) have been prepared successfully using silver (I)–bis (oxalato) zinc complex and 1, 3-diaminopropane (DAP) with a phase separation system, and have been injected into a diethyl/water solution. Materials and Methods: This crystal structure and lattice constant of the AZNTP obtained were investigated by means of a SEM, XRD, TEM and UV-vis spectrum. Results: The results of the present study demonstrated the growth and characterization AZNTP for humidity sensing and DAP plays a key role in the determination of particle morphology. AZNTP films with 23 nm in arm diameter have shown highly sensitive, quick response sensor material that works at room temperature.

The equilibrium sorption of uni-univalent electrolytes (NaCl, KCl) in heterogeneous cation exchange membranes with various contents of the ion exchange component and in ion exchange membranes Ralex was investigated. Using experimental data which express the concentration dependence of equilibrium sorption, validity of the Donnan relation for the systems under investigation was tested and values of the Glueckauf inhomogeneity factor for Ralex membranes were determined. Determination of the equilibrium sorption allows the effect of the total content of internal water and of the ion-exchange capacity on the distribution coefficients of the electrolyte to be determined.

Paper tracks experimentally confirmed relationship between chemical composition of electrolyte and resulting surface finish quality of created oxide layer during the process of anodic oxidation of aluminium. Examined chemical factors were: concentrations of sulphuric acid, oxalic acid, boric acid and sodium chloride. Aggressive effects of electrolyte were chosen as indicator of resulting layer quality – presence and extent of etching of used substrate sample.

An analytical method is described for the determination of microgram amounts of silver in galena ores, based on the "reversion" of silver dithizonate. Silver is separated from relatively large amounts of lead by extraction as dithizonate into chloroform from an aqueous 1:99 nitric acid solution. Separation from mercury, which is also extracted under these conditions and would, if present, interfere in the analysis, is achieved by reverting the dithizonate solution with a 5% aqueous sodium chloride solution which is also 0.015 molar in hydrochloric acid. Following dilution of this aqueous solution and adjustment of pH, silver is again extracted into chloroform as the dithizonate, and determined absorptiometrically. Analyses of a number of galena ore samples showed a precision of within 3% for a silver content ranging from 0.03 to 0.4%.Some other methods for isolating silver from these samples, which were tried but found unsatisfactory, are discussed.

Food analysis demands fast methods for routine control and high throughput of samples. Chromatographic separation enables simultaneous determination of numerous compounds in complex matrices, several approaches increasing separation efficiency and speed of analysis were involved. In this work, modern types of column with monolithic rod or superficially porous particles were employed and compared for determination of eight synthetic food dyes, their chromatographic performance was evaluated. During method optimization, cyano stationary phase Chromolith Performance CN 100 × 4.6 mm and Ascentis Express ES-CN 100 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm were selected for the separation of polar colorants. The separation was performed by gradient elution of acetonitrile/methanol and 2% water solution of ammonium acetate at flow rate 2.0 mL min−1. Mobile phase composition and the gradients were optimized in order to enable efficient separation on both columns. The method using fused-core particle column provided higher separation efficiency, narrow peaks of analytes resulted in increased peak capacity and shortening of analysis time. After the validation, the method was applied for analysis of coloured beers, soft drinks and candies.
