This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Data collection uses research instruments. The population in this study was Graduate from the major of Information, Library, and Archives of Padang State University (PS IPK UNP). The sample in this study amounted to 105 graduates who returned the instrument. The results showed, First, the profile of Graduate PS IPK UNP was dominated by female graduates. Most of the graduates are graduates who graduated in 2018. Judging from the length of the study period, the average graduate has a length of the study period of 3 years. Second, the absorption of graduates in the workforce is quite high, with most graduates stating that they are currently working with the time needed to get the job <3 months. Third, the use of knowledge obtained by a graduate at the PS IPK UNP in employment is very high. The science that has a very high level of wear is fieldwork learning, technology mastery skills, and the ability to cooperate in teams. PurposeThe proliferation of inexpensive and accessible internet communication tools coupled with an increasingly geographically dispersed workforce has increased the use of virtual collaboration in the workplace. To prepare students for a virtual work environment, educators must provide classroom‐related opportunities to build students’ virtual collaboration skills. The purpose of this paper is to examine the use of virtual collaboration in the workplace, the implications for today's college graduates, and the need to provide students with experience in virtual collaboration. Finally, the paper provides a case study example of a course assignment to build virtual collaboration skills.Design/methodology/approachThis paper explores preparing students to collaborate virtually through a literature review that builds an understanding of the challenges of virtual collaboration in today's workplace and the skills students must develop in order to effectively collaborate virtually. The paper then provides a case study example of a course assignment to help students build these skills.FindingsThis paper finds that virtual collaboration skills are needed for today's college graduates. Further the case study presented provides evidence that authentic course‐based assignments can help build those skills.Originality/valueWhile research has started to explore the effective use of virtual collaboration in the workplace, the current literature lacks direction for educators to help build the skills of future workers to prepare them for virtual collaboration.

The main points of this chapter are probing for the combination of information technology and virtual work, and how to change the distribution of different types of knowledge across individuals, teams, and even the organization. The discussion in the chapter will assess the dynamics between the individual, the organization, and information technology in the context of teams that vary in their virtualness. Information technology can make convenient spread of knowledge across the organization; even the point of making virtual teams a viable alternative to face-to-face work. However, unless managed, information technology may destabilize the relationship between organizations and their employees when it comes to the transform of knowledge. Therefore, this chapter advances theory and informs practice by illustrating the dynamics of knowledge development and transfer in more and less virtual teams.

Information technology provides unprecedented opportunities to work virtually. Despite a handful of perceived drawbacks, telecommuting offers society, organizations, and individuals numerous benefits. However, the embrace of telecommuting has been lukewarm at best. One possible explanation is that the traditional idea of a commuter workforce is so strongly ingrained that it will take more time before people begin to regard the office as superfluous. This chapter examines what the idea of “work” looked like in the past, looks like in the present, and what it may look like in the future. By examining the factors that contributed to how we worked both before and after the industrial revolution, and questioning whether these factors are still valid today, this chapter prompts us to reevaluate our assumption about the way we work, and prepare for the changes that are presently taking place. Lastly, this chapter will explore the practical and research implications of virtual work.

Inequality and discrimination according to gender have been debated for decades, gender equality is among the Millennium Development Goals, proposed by the UN. Numerous barriers are still faced in the academic and work world, with regard to the participation of women in science and technology. The Girls High-Tech project was created in line with the “Digital Girls” program, proposed by the Brazilian Computer Society, working within the scope of the IFRS Happy Campus and schools located in the region. The main objective of the project is to promote reflections and actions on female participation in the area of Information Technology (IT), seeking to encourage the performance of girls in this area and problematizing gender inequalities.

It cannot be denied, nowadays technology is an inseparable part of learning in the classroom and also in the business world. Because of this there are many employers hoping that accounting and accounting education students get teaching about information technology in the field of accounting when they go to college. To fulfill this, in the College in the major of Accounting and Accounting Education curriculum, there are courses called accounting information systems (AIS), Computer Accounting and Introduction to Computer Accounting. This course, if traced back to its origin as mentioned above, is actually one of the very strategic courses. Why is it called very strategic value, because it is closely related to the development of information technology and the demands of the work world that are increasingly here becoming borderless? The teaching curriculum can be very different between each university depending on who and how the subject is coordinated. So that by using information technology learning instruments in the field of accounting developed by Wilis (2016), this study aims to examine a model of how to teach these courses in accounting education by incorporating the practice of using MS Excel in lecture meetings besides emphasizing the use of MS Visio. Keywords: information technology, computer-based learning, accounting education based on the information technology
