Simultaneous online auctions, in which the auction of all items being sold starts at the same time and ends at the same time, are becoming popular especially in selling items such as collectables and art pieces. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of bidders (Reactors) in simultaneous auctions who update their preauction value of an item in the presence of influencing bidders (Influencers). We represent an auction as a network of bidders where the nodes represent the bidders participating in the auction and the ties between them represent anInfluencer-Reactorrelationship. We further develop a random effects bilinear model that is capable of handling covariates of both bidder types at the same time and account for higher-order dependence among the bidders during the auction. Using the model and data from a Modern Indian Art auction, we find thatReactorstend to update their values on items that have high preauction estimates, bid on items created by high investment risk artists, bid selectively only on certain items, and are more active in the second half of the auction. Implications for the auction house managers are discussed.

Collision induced microwave absorption is reported in pure N2, N2–Ar, N2–CH4, mixtures, and in pure CH4 in the 35 and 70 GHz regions (1.1 and 2.3 cm−1) at a temperature of 22 °C. The measurements are accomplished using overmoded high Q cavities capable of pressurization of up to 5000 p.s.i.g. The apparatus and method are described. With the high sensitivity attained, the results in pure N2 from 30 → 250 amagat reveal terms in the square and cube of the density from which the relaxation times are calculated. The linear dependence on frequency of the collision induced absorption up to 2.3 cm−1 is established. Higher order dependence on the density is observed in the N2–Ar and N2–CH4 mixtures. Various estimates of the quadrupole moment of N2 are given, making use of earlier results in other frequency regions.

The rates of the exchange reaction between thallous and thallic ions have been measured as a function of sulphate ion concentration, at constant acidity. At high sulphate concentrations, the results agree with those of Brubaker and Mickel, indicating second- and higher-order dependence of the rate on sulphate ion concentration. At low sulphate concentrations, pure first-order dependence on sulphate is found. The inhibitive effect found in some systems is absent. A bridge-transfer mechanism is suggested.

Lipid membranes are versatile biological structures that undergo significant structural remodelling, often triggered by instabilities. Since they invariably possess heterogeneous properties, owing to the presence of multiple lipid species and their interactions with proteins, heterogeneity can have a significant impact on their equilibrium state and stability. In this work, we use curvature elasticity to derive the generalized stability criterion for heterogeneous lipid membranes. Our formulation entertains strain energies that go beyond the Helfrich energy and exhibit higher-order dependence on curvature invariants or spatially varying properties.

The focus of the article is given to the role and place of the auction house “Adolf Weinmüller” in Nazi art trade. Found that this famous art auction house in Munich laid background Modern Art in Munich and the auction house “Neumeister”. The owner of the auction house – “Neumeister” K. Stoll encouraged researching the history of Nazism by studying the case of Adolf Weinmüller’s archival documents. Emphasized that opening access to private archives of the auction house “Neumeister” – successor house of “Adolf Weinmüller”, which was not only to cause a breakthrough in solving crimes of the National Socialists but an important step in overcoming the consequences of totalitarianism in Germany. It is important to note that such explicit steps still do not dare any auction house in Germany. Thus was laid the scientific for a number of projects to find and declassification of archival documents.

The paper is devoted to the consideration of the possibilities of using artifacts from private collections that are sold at European online auctions in scientific research. As an example, the data from the website of the world’s largest auction house Sotheby’s are analyzed. The description of 18 artifacts (miniature columns from Bactria) is given. Such artifacts are cylindrical or biconical shaped stone products with gutters on the bases and sides. The main difficulties when referring to this type of sources in scientific research are such aspects as lack of certification, the problem of authenticity and verification of information, the region of origin, incomplete information. Nevertheless, the analyzed objects fit into the cultural stereotypes of the BMAC and find complete analogies in the well-documented and stratified sits of this cultural area, which is a certain basis for their authenticity. Therefore, despite the noted nuances, it is concluded that it is necessary to take into account such artifacts in scientific research. Keywords: artifacts, BMAC, miniature columns, private collections, online auctions

Profit and loss sharing (PLR) in Islamic banking in Indonesia faces difficulties. Contracts for financing (PLR) include mudharabah and musyarakah. Before addressing the difficulties, this analysis evaluates the mudharabah and musyarakah contracts' execution. While a musyarakah contract requires investors and entrepreneurs to provide money and labor, a mudharabah contract allows the investor to supply capital and the entrepreneur to manage the firm. In terms of return on investment, all partners share profits and losses according to the pre-agreed musyarakah ratio; however, only the financier bears the loss for the mudharabah, as the entrepreneur has lost business as a result of the scheme. This research will be discussed qualitatively and using a literature review approach. The findings indicate that there are four major impediments to PUR financing: high investment risk, difficulties in selecting the best partner, demands from consumers with a poor credit rating, and a lack of financial protection.

Non-circular parts are of high relevance for powertrain and joining applications. The required special-purpose machine tools typically exhibit a high investment risk due to a low manufacturing flexibility. Accordingly, a prototypical drive was developed to enable non-circular machining by turning with existing machine tools. Proofs of functionality are based on machining different non-circular geometries using quenched and tempered as well as hardened steel.
