Intercalated sericite was prepared by intercalation of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) into activated sericite through ion exchange with the following two steps: the activation of sericite by thermal modification, acid activation and sodium modification; the ion exchange intercalation of CTA+into activated sericite. Effects of reaction time, reaction temperature, CTAB quantity, kinds of medium, and aqueous pH on the intercalation of activated sericite were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicated that the CTA+entered sericite interlayers and anchored in the aluminosilicate interlayers through strong electrostatic attraction. The arrangement of CTA+in sericite interlayers was that alkyl chain of CTA+mainly tilted at an angle about 60° (paraffin-type bilayer) and 38° (paraffin-type monolayer) with aluminosilicate layers. The largest interlayer space was enlarged from 0.9 nm to 5.2 nm. The intercalated sericite could be used as an excellent layer silicate to prepare clay-polymer nanocomposites.

Single crystals of pure and Lanthanum doped L-Alanine Tartrate were grown by slow evaporation method. The cell parameters were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction method. To improve the physical properties of the LAT crystal, Lanthanum dopant was added by 2 mol%. ICP studies confirm the presence of Lanthanum in the grown LAT crystal. Transparency range of the crystal was determined using UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. The functional groups of pure and doped LAT crystals were analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Using Vickers microhardness tester, mechanical strength of the material was found. Dielectric studies of pure and doped LAT single crystals were carried out. The doped LAT crystal is found to have efficiency higher than that of pure LAT crystal.

Abstract The porcelain formulation containing percentages of treated FGD sludge waste from 5% up to 15% in replacement of feldspar were prepared. The porcelain mixture formulation were mixed by high energy planatery mill at speed 300 rpm for 1 hours. The powder were compacted by using hydraulic press and sintered at temperature 1200 °C for 3 hours. The sintered samples were characterized using X-ray fluorescene (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Thermogravimetry/Differential scanning calorimetry (TGA/DCS). The primary effect concerning the addition of treated FGD sludge was the change of intensity composition (gypsum and anhydrate) in porcelain formulation. The XRD analysis has shown that the main component in sludge waste were gypsum and anhydrate.

Nowadays, the hummers method for preparation of graphene oxide (GO) was improved. The grapheme oxide @ Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposites were synthesized by co-precipitation method. After analysing the morphology and structure of obtained nanocomposites by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, the result was shown as follows. The particle size of Fe3O4 in nanocomposites is 30 nm. Many functional groups are found in grapheme oxide, and such groups could be used to bind with the drug. In the test for magnetic properties, the nanocomposites gathered rapidly in the vicinity of the permanent magnet. The nanocomposites, with high superparamagnetism, can be used in the following applications: drug targeting transports, drug carrier, and diagnosis assistant system.

The aim of the study was to determine the feasibility of complexation between the antioxidant trans-resveratrol (RSV) and underivatized cyclodextrins (CDs) using a variety of preparative methods, including physical mixing, kneading, microwave irradiation, co-evaporation, and co-precipitation techniques. Products were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), simultaneous thermogravimetric/DSC analysis (TGA/DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). With α-CD and RSV, sample amorphization was revealed by PXRD and FT-IR, but no definitive inclusion complexation was evident. Similar results were obtained in attempts to complex RSV with β-CD. However, complex formation between γ-CD and RSV was evident from observation of an endo-/exothermic effect appearing in the DSC trace of the product from kneading and was further corroborated by FT-IR and PXRD methods. The latter technique indicated complexation unequivocally as the diffraction peak profile for the product matched that for known isostructural γ-CD complexes. Single crystal X-ray analysis followed, confirming the predicted complex between γ-CD and RSV. A combination of 1H NMR and TGA data yielded the complex formula (γ-CD)3·(RSV)4·(H2O)62. However, severe disorder of the RSV molecules prevented their modeling. In contrast, our previous studies of the inclusion of RSV in methylated CDs yielded crystals with only minor guest disorder.

AbstractChemically cross-linked chitosan (MC) containing 1,2,4,5- benzenetetracarboxylic acid (BCA) as the cross-linking agent was prepared to improve the metal ions absorption capacity of native chitosan (NC) and limit its biodegradability. The Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) and proton neutron magnetic resonance (1H NMR) results showed that BCA was successfully linked onto N-position of NC. The crystalline nature of NC was reduced significantly after cross-linking as examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Therefore, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of MC was higher than NC as reported by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Moreover, thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis showed that, MC had better thermal stability than NC. Morphology changes on the surface of NC and MC were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and showed that MC had more porous surface than NC. In pH medium of 3 to 6, MC had excellent Cu (II) ions absorption capacity with a maximum 16 % higher than NC.

Abstract In this paper, the highly stable Ag/CdS-WO2 nanocomposite was fabricated by a facile and capping agent-free hydrothermal technique. The fabricated Ag doped CdS-WO2 nanocomposite were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance (DRS) spectroscopy. The photocatalytic performance of synthesized photocatalysts was evaluated for the photodegradation of rhodamine B (Rh B) under visible light irradiation (VLI). The parameters used for the optimization of the photocatalyst were pH, catalyst dose, oxidant dose, and irradiation time. Based on this, a possible reaction mechanism for the enhancement of photocatalytic activity of Ag/CdS-WO2 has been proposed. Hence, we have a tendency to believe it might be a promising material that may be used for the photodegradation of organic pollutants present in wastewater.

Quinine (an antimalarial) and aspirin (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) were combined into a new drug–drug salt, quininium aspirinate, C20H25N2O2 +·C9H7O4 −, by liquid-assisted grinding using stoichiometric amounts of the reactants in a 1:1 molar ratio, and water, EtOH, toluene, or heptane as additives. A tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution of the mechanochemical product prepared using EtOH as additive led to a single crystal of the same material obtained by mechanochemistry, which was used for crystal structure determination at 100 K. Powder X-ray diffraction ruled out crystallographic phase transitions in the 100–295 K interval. Neat mechanical treatment (in a mortar and pestle, or in a ball mill at 20 or 30 Hz milling frequencies) gave rise to an amorphous phase, as shown by powder X-ray diffraction; however, FT–IR spectroscopy unambiguously indicates that a mechanochemical reaction has occurred. Neat milling the reactants at 10 and 15 Hz led to incomplete reactions. Thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry indicate that the amorphous and crystalline mechanochemical products form glasses/supercooled liquids before melting, and do not recrystallize upon cooling. However, the amorphous material obtained by neat grinding crystallizes upon storage into the salt reported. The mechanochemical synthesis, crystal structure analysis, Hirshfeld surfaces, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, FT–IR spectroscopy, and aqueous solubility of quininium aspirinate are herein reported.
