The shape and connection type of MOx are critical to the physical and chemical properties. A series of new material Sr2-xNaxNbO4 containing NbO4 tetrahedra was prepared by controlling the ratio of SrCO3 to sodium niobate under ambient air. With increasing the content of Sr in the sample, the MOx shape will change from NbO6 octahedra to NbO4 tetrahedra, which is confirmed by the Raman scattering spectra. With increasing the content of NbO4 in the sample, the lattice parameter increases, optical band gap becomes larger, and the surface changes to be more active for oxygen adsorption, resulting in a higher photocatalytic activity.

Mostly used in packing and outdoor facilities in the early stage, wood-plastic composites are gradually applied to other design sectors thanks to their advantageous features including cost efficiency, environmental protection, recyclability as well as being easy to be processed and fabricated. The application of this kind of green and new material in the exhibition design sector will be beneficial to developing the standardized structure and rapid fabrication in the exhibition design to save the project construction material costs and shorten erection time. In this article, the feasibility and ecological significance of using wood-plastic composites in the exhibition sector are explored from the aspects of the physical and chemical properties of the wood-plastic composites as well as their processing methods.

The nano-TiO2 photocatalysts doped with Iron and Niobium for dye wastewater treatment were prepared by temperature-controlled sol-gel method. The effects of these dopants on the physical and chemical properties of TiO2 were compared with the commercially available Degussa TiO2 P25. Among these characteristics are crystalline size, the presence of absolute anatase phase, band gap energy and specific surface area. The characterization data were correlated to photocatalytic activities using Turquoise blue dye (TBD) as model pollutant. Single doping (with Nb) and co-doping (Fe and Nb) catalyst reached complete decolorization within 2.5 hours and 3 hours. In addition, their kinetic reaction rate constants of apparent first-order model are 0.0258 min-1 and 0.0225 min-1, respectively. The presence of Nb as traps is considered to play a crucial key in enhancing the photocatalytic activity.

This study attempted the extraction of essential oils from the peels of pomelo (Citrus grandis L.) grown in Ben Tre province, Vietnam through hydrodistillation method. In addition, the chemical composition and physio-chemical properties of the essential oils were reported. The results showed that the extraction yield of the extraction process achieved about 1.67%. The physico-chemical index of essential oils is determined by specific gravity (0.8572 g/cm3), acid index (0.3556 mg KOH/g), ester index (2.4216 mg KOH/g), and refractive index (1.476). The GC-MS analyses of the oil indicated the component with highest content in the oil was α-limonene (96.491%), followed by α-pinene (0.686%), β-pinene (0.248%), β-myrcene (1.644%), α-phellandrene (0.793%) and β-cis-ocimene (0.138%). These results suggested that wastes from fruit peeling process can be converted into a new material source with great potential for industrial use.

Abstract The REE (rare-earth-elements) cerium (Ce) is the most abundant earth-crust element and their oxides have great attention in the form of nanocrystalline nature with superior physical and chemical properties. Pure and Co (1%, 3% and 5%) doped CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized by co-precipitation technique were characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), UV-visible spectroscopy. XRD shows face-centred-cubic (FCC) crystal symmetry with average crystallite size 6–12 nm. HRTEM exhibits almost identical cubical shaped particles with average size 4–10 nm. Tuned band-gap may be observed from UV-visible spectrum of CeO2-NPs upon Co (1%, 3% & 5%) incorporation. Enhancement of the photocatalytic activity observed for Co-doped (1%, 3% & 5%) to the degradation of methylene-blue (MB) dye under visible-light absorption.

ABSTRACTUranium dioxide is the most common fuel used in commercial light water nuclear reactors. The fission of the fuel generates fission products (FPs) and minor actinides (MAs), which affects the thermo-physical properties of the fuel. The understanding of the physical and chemical properties of the FPs and MAs is still limited. In this study we have used atomic level simulations to estimate the effect of Ce4+ and Th4+ ions in urania matrix. Our results show that the structural variation depends on the elastic effect, which is guided by the ionic radius of the substituted ion. Ce4+ (ionic radius 0.97 Å) reduces the overall lattice parameter, while Th4+ (ionic radius 1.05 Å) increases the overall lattice parameter of the urania matrix (U4+ ionic radius 1.00 Å). In addition bulk modulus of the U1-xCexO2 system does not change with substitution while the modulus of U1-xThxO2 reduces with an increase in Th4+ ion concentration. This observation is in accordance with Vegard’s law prediction based on the modulus values of bulk UO2, CeO2 and ThO2 systems.

The presented research aims to manipulate and improve the aging behaviors of concrete composite systems by employing ecologically safe date palm (seeds and husks) waste as a filler. In addition, optimized workability, durability, and erosion resistance properties for the new material were investigated. The experimental work included the application of different mixing ratios (50/50, 30/70, and 70/30) of husk date/ date seeds to study the enhanced physicochemical behaviors and erosion resistant of bio-waste-concrete composite system exposed to severe temperature conditions (50 ºC) for a time period of 25 days. Optimum results were observed for samples reinforced with the natural filler with a ratio of 50/50 in comparison to the base samples. In conclusion, good resistance to erosion and creeping thickness appeared at optimum conditions of 250 μm particle size. Also, higher reaction compatibility and less pores between particles were observed, which improved all physical and chemical properties as depicted by SEM images.
