Background. Providing an organ for donation is a major problem worldwide and nurses play an important role in facilitating the process of organ donation. This study is aimed at investigating the knowledge, attitude, and performance of nurses working in the ICU, CCU, and emergency wards regarding organ donation. Methods. In this descriptive-analytical study, 185 nurses working in ICU, CCU, and emergency wards were studied through systematic random sampling. The data collection was done by a self-administered questionnaire. Results. The mean knowledge of nurses was 8.9 ± 1.4 out of 10. There was a significant relationship between knowledge of nurses regarding donation and religion and having organ donation card (P<0.001). The mean attitude of nurses was 7.8 ± 2.2 out of 8. The variables, including “having a donation card and marriage,” were associated with attitude of nurses toward organ donation. The mean performance of nurses was 0.4 ± 0.7 out of 3. There was a significant relationship between performance of nurses and having a donation card (P<0.001). Knowledge was the strongest predictor of nurses’ performance (P<0.01). Conclusion. The studied nurses showed sufficient knowledge and favorable attitude toward organ donation; however, they had poor performance. It is suggested to hold training courses to improve performance of nurses. The revision of the nursing students’ curriculum as future nurses should also be considered.

Abstract Background User's satisfaction with PACS is considered as one of the important criteria for assessing success in using PACS. The objective of this study is to determine the level of satisfaction in PACS’ users and also comparing its functional features with traditional film-based systems.Methods This analytical study was conducted in 2017. Residents at three large university hospitals in Kerman city were included. We used self-administered questionnaire that was consisted of three parts include: demographic information, individuals' satisfaction, comparing features of the two digital and traditional imaging systems. Validity of this questionnaire was approved by specialists and its reliability was obtained as 86%. Data analysis was done with using descriptive statistics and after checking the normality of data, data compared with the spearman, the Mann Whitney U and the Kruskal-Wallis statistical tests.Results The mean of the participants' ages 31.4 (± 4.4) years old and approximately 59% of the participants were females. Mean of overall physicians’ satisfaction with PACS' score has no significant relationship (P>0.05) with the variables of age, experience in using PACS, type of specialty, level of interpretation of images using PACS, however it did show a significant relationship with their computer skills (P<0.05).Conclusions The mean for physicians’ satisfaction with PACS was at a moderate to high level, yet there are still problems in successfully implementing these systems and establishing interoperability between them. PACS has not fully met all the demands of physicians and has not achieved its predetermined objectives such as all-access from different locations.

Satisfaction with the experience gained in clinical settings is of great significance to nursing students and novice first-year students in particular and contributes significantly to developing basic clinical skills and competence. Accordingly, the present study aimed to examine nursing student satisfaction with the first clinical education experience. A total of 390 second- and third-semester nursing students gaining clinical experience in general surgery, internal medicine, gynecological surgery, orthopedics, emergency, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, andrological surgery, post-CCU, and otorhinolaryngology departments participated in this analytical cross-sectional study from March to June 2017. The research instrument included the “Assessment of nursing student’s Satisfaction with First Clinical Practical Education Questionnaire: Modified Version”, consisting of three parts: demographic characteristics, 37 items, and a 10-degree visual analog scale to assess student satisfaction. Descriptive statistics were used to hypothesis test in SPSS 22. The highest rate of student satisfaction was related to the third domain labeled “Instructor’s behavior”, and the lowest rate of student satisfaction was related to the fifth and seventh domains labeled “Emotional atmosphere and learning in the clinical setting” and “Creating appropriate learning opportunities”, respectively. The results of statistical tests suggested a statistically significant relationship between the mean satisfaction score (based on the 10-degree scale) and gender (p=0.01). However, no statistically significant relationship was observed between the mean satisfaction score and other demographic characteristics such as age, grade point average (GPA), and university type. Student satisfaction rate varies in different domains of the questionnaire. Accordingly, it is recommended that schools of nursing and midwifery incorporate the findings of this study into their first clinical, educational experience planning and take into account the educational needs of students to bring greater satisfaction.

Introduction: Lack of knowledge and proper implementation of health guidelines by hairdressers can lead to the transmission of some infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the hairdressers’ level of awareness, attitude, and performance regarding the principles of infection control in women's hairdressers in Abarkouh. Methods: The study included all female hairdressers (40 hairdresser) in Abarkouh township of Yazd, Iran. To collect the data, a questionnaire containing the participants’ demographic information as well as awareness (scores range from 0 to 18), attitude (scores range from 13 to 65), and performance (scores range from 14 to 70) information was administered. A checklist was also used to evaluate the applied disinfectants. Results: The total mean scores related to the levels of awareness, attitude, and performance of hairdressers were estimated as 11.28 ±1.99, 51.98 ±4.67, and 62.13 ±5.69, respectively. Awareness scores had a significant relationship with education level (P= 0.021) and income level (P= 0.038). The performance scores had a significant association with income levels (P= 0.048). The daily disinfection frequencies were estimated daily, weekly, twice a week, and three times a week as 20%, 30%, 7.5%, and 42.5%, respectively. Based on the findings, 42.5% of hairdressers used Oven and autoclaves for disinfection. The most common disinfectants used for the hairdresser's environment, equipment, as well as antiseptic for skins and hands were bleach, alcohol, and washing liquid, respectively. Conclusion: Due to the moderate levels of awareness and attitude of hairdressers, the authorities are required to plan to hold more effective training courses and increase the awareness of barbers using different educational methods to make health programs more effective.

Background. Self-directed learning plays an important role in nursing education and is associated with academic achievement, communication self-efficacy, assertiveness, responsibility, and students’ clinical competencies. This study was conducted to analyze the existing research on the level of self-directed learning in nursing students. Methods. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, all studies that had examined the level of self-directed learning in nursing students until March 2, 2020, were searched in Science Direct, Ovid, Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. In the meta-analysis section, I2 index and the random effects model were used. Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 2) was used for data analysis. Results. The mean score of self-directed learning in 12 articles with 3830 samples was 156.73 ± 1.47 out of 200 (95% CI: 153.3–160.1). These scores were 153.50 ± 2.71 (95% CI: 148.18–158.82) and 154.67 ± 1.32 (95% CI: 157.50–159.32) in the male and female students, respectively. There was a significant relationship between self-directed learning and sample size, year of study, and semester ( p < 0.05 ). Conclusion. The mean self-directed learning in nursing students was at a moderate level, which does not seem to be sufficient. Given the positive role of self-directed learning in nursing education, it is essential that nursing professors teach self-directed learning skills to students via training courses.

Organ transplantation is the standard therapy of several end-stage diseases. Organ donation is the major component for transplant programs; however, the rate of organ donation is relatively low in Asia. In Nepal an estimated 2.8 million people have some sort of kidney ailments, while 3,000 kidney failures are reported every year. Therefore, the current study aims to identify the attitude and knowledge regarding organ transplantation. Descriptive research design was conducted using self administered questionnaire and five points Likert scale to collect information among the nursing students. The study was carried out among B.Sc. Nursing and BNS first year students at College of Nursing of Chitwan Medical College. Proportional stratified random sampling method was used to select the study sample i.e. 50 students (23 B.Sc. Nursing and 27 BN Nursing 1st year students).The data was edited, coded and analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) program version 17. A total of 50 nursing students, 54% were BN 1st year students and 46% were B.Sc. Nursing 1st year students. The mean age of the students was 21.98±3.384 years. The mean score obtained by students on introduction of organ transplantation was 8.54±2.39, knowledge regarding eye transplantation was 2.72±1.17 and knowledge regarding kidney transplantation was 3.58±1.44. Majority (82%) of respondents had medium level of knowledge and 94% of them had positive attitude regarding organ transplantation. This study illustrated that students had positive attitude towards organ transplantation however, low knowledge regarding organ transplantation was noted in the current study. So educational activities should be provided for the improvement of knowledge among nursing students.

IntroductionNurses have pivotal roles before, during, and after disasters. Enhancing their professional skills to help the injured is one the basic principles in health management in disasters. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of training disaster nursing preparedness on improving the preparedness of nurses.MethodUsing a quasi-experimental method, 113 nurses were selected randomly. The preparedness program, which consisted of a one-day workshop on disaster management, a tabletop exercise, and an operational maneuver, was executed for the participants. The preparedness of all participating nurses was measured by disaster preparedness questionnaire, one week and also one month after the program. Data analysis was performed by using the ANOVA test.ResultsThe mean scores of knowledge, attitude, and performance improved from 5.55 to 19.88, from 66.18 to 72.41, and from 3.36 to 12.48, respectively (p < 0.001). In addition, the mean of total preparedness score was increased from 75.14 in pretest to 104.77 in the follow up (p < 0.001).ConclusionsPreparedness plan training improves participants' preparedness for responding disasters, because preparedness and reliability for responding to disasters is influenced directly by the training courses and previous experiments. Therefore, based on the results obtained in this project, in order to improve the preparedness of nursing staff, including a disaster preparedness plan in academic, educational curriculum and as a continuing educational program is recommended.

Introduction: Health organizations are required to raise people’s awareness about foodborne diseases and to control and prevent these diseases. Training courses held by guilds are aimed to enhance food hygiene in the society. The present study was conducted to determin the effect of training courses on the awareness, attitude, and performance of confectionery, bakery, and restaurant workers. Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental research, 120 individuals in charge of preparing, distributing, and selling food in Yazd City were selected by random sampling method. The participants' awareness, attitude, and performance levels were measured before and after the training courses using a valid and reliable questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS.16 software using ANOVA statistical tests and pair t-test. Results: The mean age of the participants was 31.95 ± 9.57 years. Following implementation of the training courses, the participants' average scores increased significantly in terms of awareness, performance, and attitude (p ˂ 0.001). Moreover, education, age, type of responsibility, as well as work experience had a significant relationship with the workers' awareness, attitude, and performance (p ˂ 0.05). Conclusion: Training courses conducted by guilds improved the awareness level of participants, especially bakery operators, enhanced attitude of participants, especially sellers, and improved hygiene performance of the operators in various fields, including food hygiene. Thus, such training courses should be conducted for each profession category and each job position separately. Every businessmen should be required to pass these courses every two years.

Abstract Objectives The seeking and use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) modalities by people to treat mental disorders has increased and it is necessary for psychologists to have the necessary information in this field. This study aims to evaluate the use and perception of CAM by Iranian psychologists. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 psychologists selected by the census in 2019. Data collection tools consisted of four sections of the demographic section, the CAM questionnaire for psychologists, awareness of CAM, and use of CAM. The validity and reliability of this questionnaire were confirmed. Results The mean (standard deviation) scores of attitude and educational needs were 40.45 (11.36) and 33.93 (5.96), respectively. Only 19.25% of psychologists had sufficient knowledge of CAM, and most of them (56.34%) reported that there is an educational need for CAM. In this study, 64% of psychologists used CAM for themselves. There was a significant relationship between the attitude toward CAM modalities and the suggestion of CAM to the clients (p=0.025). There was also a significant relationship between the use of CAM by psychologists and the suggestion of these modalities to their clients (p<0.001). Conclusions Psychologists had not sufficient awareness about CAM and had a moderate attitude. Most of the psychologists reported that there is educational need for CAM. Therefore, it is necessary to design and implement appropriate training courses for psychologists toward CAM modalities.

This study aimed to determine the relationship between death and DNR attitudes among ICNs. This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 156 ICNs in 2018. All nurses were enrolled in the study; data collection instruments included Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R) and the DNR attitude questionnaires. The mean scores of DAP-R and DNR items were 150.89/ ± 23.59 and 91.82 ± 11.41, respectively. There was a significant relationship between death attitude and DNR attitude Famong ICNs. All dimensions of DAP-R significantly predicted attitude toward DNR (P < 0.05). Among those, “neutral acceptance” (1.17 [95% CI (0.68--1.65)] was the strongest predictor and “death avoidance” was the weakest predictor (0.36 [95% CI (0.09--0.62)]. There was a significant relationship between the ICNs' work experience and attitude toward DNR (p = 0.03). The findings can be used in formulation of the national guideline for DNR order.
