Existing research studies on torque ripple suppression mostly ignore the electrical loss of PMSM. However, the electrical loss will not only decrease the operating efficiency but also adversely influence the suppression of torque ripple. This paper attempts to construct a unified framework to suppress torque ripple with consideration of electrical loss. Firstly, a dynamic mathematical model of PMSM under current vector orientation is established with a combination of electrical loss. The constraints that can achieve the control of both torque ripple and electrical loss for PMSM are derived. Then, on the basis of the backstepping control principle, a closed-loop I/f integrative control method under stator current vector orientation is proposed. Meanwhile, this paper also proposes a speed estimation algorithm of PMSM based on the least-squares method to realize wide-range speed identification and an online prediction algorithm for control parameters of backstepping control to enhance the stability of the motor in operation. Both simulations and experiments have been performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method, and the results indicate that torque ripple is suppressed effectively, operating efficiency is significantly improved, and all variables are regulated to track their reference signals correctly and rapidly.

The paper presents design and verification of Forced Dynamics Control of an actuator with linear permanent magnet synchronous motor. This control method is a relatively new one and offers an accurate realization of a dynamic speed response, which can be selected for given application by the user. In addition to this, the angle between stator current vector and moving part flux vector is maintained mutually perpendicular as it is under conventional vector control. To achieve prescribed speed response derived control law requires estimation of an external force, which is obtained from the set of observers. The first observer works in pseudo-sliding mode and observes speed of moving part while the second one has filtering effect for elimination of the previous one chattering. The overall control system is verified by simulations and experimentally. Preliminary experiments confirmed that the moving part speed response follows the prescribed one fairly closely.

The paper proposes a new speed control method to improve control quality and expand the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors speed range. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) speed range enlarging is based on the newly proposed power control principle between two voltage sources instead of winding current control as the conventional Field Oriented Control method. The power management between the inverter and PMSM motor allows the Flux-Weakening obstacle to be overcome entirely, leading to a significant extension of the motor speed to a constant power range. Based on motor power control, a new control method is proposed and allows for efficiently reducing current and torque ripple caused by the imbalance between the power supply of the inverter and the power required through the desired stator current. The proposed method permits for not only an enhanced PMSM speed range, but also a robust stability in PMSM speed control. The simulation results have demonstrated the efficiency and stability of the proposed control method.

This paper concentrates on a robust resonant control strategy of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for electric drivers with model uncertainties and external disturbances to improve the control performance of the current loop. Firstly, to reduce the torque ripple of PMSM, the resonant controller with fractional order (FO) calculus is introduced. Then, a robust two degrees-of-freedom (Robust-TDOF) control strategy was designed based on the modified resonant controller. Finally, by combining the two control methods, this study proposes an enhanced Robust-TDOF regulation method, named as the robust two degrees-of-freedom resonant controller (Robust-TDOFR), to guarantee the robustness of model uncertainty and to further improve the performance with minimized periodic torque ripples. Meanwhile, a tuning method was constructed followed by stability and robust stability analysis. Furthermore, the proposed Robust-TDOFR control method was applied in the current loop of a PMSM to suppress the periodic current harmonics caused by non-ideal factors of inverter and current measurement errors. Finally, simulations and experiments were performed to validate our control strategy. The simulation and experimental results showed that the THDs (total harmonic distortion) of phase current decreased to a level of 0.69% and 5.79% in the two testing environments.
