Background. Pneumonia is a serious global health problem. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture or moxibustion is used to directly stimulate select acupoints on the surface of the human body and produce physical stimulation to further stimulate regulatory functions in the body, strengthening bodily resistance, eliminating disease, and adjusting the viscera. However, this Chinese medicine knowledge does not include the specific mechanisms of action or targets of acupoints. Therefore, an in-depth research is needed. Methods. An acupoint-element database was constructed, and the target elements of the Feishu point were screened. The UniProt-Swiss-Prot sublibrary was used to obtain correct gene name information. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and GEO2R were used to analyze differentially expressed genes in pneumonia. The STRING database was used to analyze interactions, construct a network of the Feishu point efficacy system in pneumonia, and elucidate the mechanisms of action. Results. The Feishu point comprises 34 elements in total. The protein interaction analysis has 38 nodes and 115 edges. The Feishu point efficacy system-pneumonia system network shows that cytokine signaling in the immune system, signaling by interleukins (ILs), IL-4 and IL-13 signaling, and the immune system may be related to immunity and inflammation. The Feishu point efficacy system regulating pneumonia showed that FCER2, IL4R, FASLG, TGFB1, IL6R, STAT6, IL1B, CASP3, IL5RA, IL2RB, MYD88, SQSTM1, IL12RB1, IFNGR1, ADAM17, and CDH1 are the main targets. Conclusion. From the perspective of systematic acupuncture and moxibustion, the Feishu point regulates cytokine signaling in the immune system, signaling by ILs, IL-4 and IL-13 signaling, and the immune system by targeting FCER2, IL4R, FASLG, TGFB1, IL6R, STAT6, IL1B, CASP3, IL5RA, IL2RB, MYD88, SQSTM1, IL12RB1, IFNGR1, ADAM17, and CDH1, thereby regulating pneumonia.

Abstract Background: Acupoint application (AA) therapy, a traditional Chinese medicine external treatment method, is recommended as a complementary Chinese medicine therapy for treating new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19), and can help improve curative effects, promote patient recovery, and improve immunity to prevent disease, but the mechanism is not clear. We sought to explore the key targets and mechanisms of Ephedra and Asarum, the main components used in AA, in the treatment of COVID-19 in this study.Methods: The active compounds and related targets of Ephedra and Asarum used in AA were screened by searching four databases. COVID-19-related target genes were identified from three disease databases, and the key targets of treating COVID-19 were obtained by Venn diagram using Cytoscape 3.2.1 software, gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis were used to explore possible mechanisms and pathways. The verification of the binding force between the compounds and target genes was completed by performing molecular docking with Autodock and pymol software.Results: Twenty-four active components of AA corresponded to 252 targets, with 713 target genes related to COVID-19, and 56 key genes were selected. GO analysis results showed that biological processes mainly included the inflammatory and immune responses, and cell components were mainly the plasma membrane and nucleus, with molecular functions including protein binding and identical protein binding. The top pathways included Immune System, Cytokine Signaling in Immune System, Adaptive Immune System, Signaling by Interleukins, Innate Immune System, and Signaling by GPCR.Conclusion: The results of this study preliminarily verified that Ephedra and Asarum used in AA therapy could treat COVID-19 via multiple compounds and multi-pathways, which provided a basis for clinical application and further research.

Abstract Xenbase (www.xenbase.org) is a knowledge base for researchers and biomedical scientists that employ the amphibian Xenopus as a model organism in biomedical research to gain a deeper understanding of developmental and disease processes. Through expert curation and automated data provisioning from various sources Xenbase strives to integrate the body of knowledge on Xenopus genomics and biology together with the visualization of biologically significant interactions. Most current studies utilize next generation sequencing (NGS) but until now the results of different experiments were difficult to compare and not integrated with other Xenbase content. Xenbase has developed a suite of tools, interfaces and data processing pipelines that transforms NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) NGS content into deeply integrated gene expression and chromatin data, mapping all aligned reads to the most recent genome builds. This content can be queried and visualized via multiple tools and also provides the basis for future automated ‘gene expression as a phenotype’ and gene regulatory network analyses.

Wrestling normally places extreme demands on the body and thus may cause various kinds of injuries. An in-depth understanding of the episodes of injured sites, types, timings, and treatment modalities would help participants be aware of wrestling-related injury occurrences so as to develop effective preventive measures. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the gender-specific injuries among elite wrestling athletes. Subjects were selected from the 2009 Taiwanese National Wrestling Sport Championship. Participants were adolescent wrestling athletes, ages 16–18, who must have received at least one bronze medal at national level tournaments in 2008. A total of 118 respondents, 96 males and 22 females, completed and returned the questionnaire in which demographic data and information about the types, sites, and timings of injuries suffered and treatment modalities adopted were elicited. The data were analyzed with independent t-tests. The questionnaire results revealed a significantly higher injury rate for males than for females. The top three injured sites for males were waist (11.1%), ankle joint (10.1%) and finger (9.6%); while for females were ankle joint (13.6%), knee (12.5%) and waist (11.3%). Contusions were the most frequent type of injury: for males (73.5%) and for females (70.6%); followed by tendon inflammation for males (10.7%) and accumulated injuries for females (15.2%). During training and matching periods, the frequency of injuries for males (69.0%) is lower than that for females (81.8%). Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with acupuncture and moxibustion was the most common treatment modalities used for males (51.8%) and for females (68.0%); followed by orthopedics: for males (29.5%) and for females (18.0%). The present study contributed as the first effort to reveal the potency of using TCM with acupuncture and moxibustion in wrestling competitions. To prevent possible brain and body injuries in wrestling, safety education, skills and rules, and scoring systems may require further revision. Increased training of wrestling health professionals and advanced research and development of auxiliary training devices and protective equipment for wrestling athletes are also recommended.

Background: Cardiac arrest (CA) and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) relative to post-CA have attracted the attention of scientist to prevent damages, which threaten patients. In the present study, metabolites relevant to DEGs of post-CA condition investigated via protein-compound interaction to understand the pathological mechanisms in the human body. Materials and Methods: STITCH plug-in integrated into Cytoscape V.3.6.1 was used to detect the most significant interacting compounds relative to DEGs of pig’s brain after 5 minutes’ CA. The genes were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The identified elements were considered for further evaluation and validation by literature survey. Result: Findings indicate that biochemical compounds including magnesium, calcium, glucose, glycerol, hydrogen, chloride, sulfate, and estradiol interact with DEGs in the two up- and down-regulated networks. Conclusion: The compounds interacting with DEGs are suitable subjects to analysis for re-regulation of the body after CA.[GMJ.2018;7:e1380]

Asthma is a chronic respiratory symptoms with variable airflow limitation and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), and causes high economic burden. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long-lasting history of using herbal medicine in the treatment of various respiratory diseases including asthma. In the last several decades, an increasing number of herbs have been shown to be effective in the treatment of asthma in clinical trials or asthmatic inflammation in animal models. Literature about the effects of TCM on the immune system were searched in electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar and Scopus from 2000 to 2014. 'TCM' and 'asthma' were used as keywords for the searches. Over 400 literatures were searched and the literatures about the immune system were selected and reviewed. We only reviewed literatures published in English. Accumulating evidence suggests that TCM can directly inhibit the activation and migration of inflammatory cells, regulate the balance of Th1/Th2 responses, and suppress allergic hyperreactivity through inducing regulatory T cells or attenuating the function of dendritic cells (DCs). These studies provided useful information to facilitate the use of TCM to treat asthma. This review was conducted to classify the findings based on their possible mechanisms of action reported.

Lactoferrin is an iron binding glycoprotein with multiple roles in the body. Its participation in apoptotic processes in cancer cells, its ability to modulate various reactions of the immune system, and its activity against a broad spectrum of pathogenic microorganisms, including respiratory viruses, have made it a protein of broad interest in pharmaceutical and food research and industry. In this review, we have focused on describing the most important functions of lactoferrin and the possible mechanisms of action that lead to its function.

Various types of conditions exist in the body that causes fever and pain. Drugs that are used to treat fever are called antipyretics, and those are usually prescribed to treat elevated body temperature. But those drugs result in many other side effects like ulcers, perforations, bleedings and obstructions, which make their use questionable and limiting. Medicinal plants are used in the treatment of diseases from the starting of the human race and the process; they had been subjected to rigorous investigations and tests to establish a scientific proof and validation of the various pharmacological activities and their respective mechanisms of action in treating the herbs. Considering the anti-inflammatory properties of the plant, Xylocarpus mekongesis was investigated for its antipyretic activity in yeast method and 3doses out of which 00mg/kg body weight showed a better activity compared to the standard drug and other extracts too. The mechanism of action was similar to the paracetamol action that is inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.

WHO declared Covid 19 /SARS -COV-2 as a global pandemic.Till date, there is no medicine for COVID-19. If the Infection arises in the body then the defence mechanism activated against infection. A recent study suggests that temporarily augmenting the body's immune system in the early stages of COVID-19 can help patient to avoid severe symptoms as it is rightly said prevention is better than cure. Ayurveda approaches to develop physiological reactions to facilitate immunity. Planning of diet is most important to boost immunity.As per many researches to provide supplementary food which contains Zinc, Vitamin C,Vitamin D and immunity boosting foodsuch as citrus natural products, custard apple, apple, papaya is among the Fruits. Vegetables include broccoli, onion, garlic and green leafy vegetables. Nuts, ginger, turmeric, pepper, egg yolk, shellfish, mushroom. The need of the hour is a quick boost to immune system to keep it fit, fighting. One should get the right amount of nutrients from the diet, supplementation regimen to boost immune system.In this review, there are few common supplements and super food studies have been included. It might be a torch bearer as sample menu and their alternatives are given for a normal adult. Needy may change contemplated according to age, sex, body mass index and daily physical activities.
