The paper’s aim is to make topical the role of imagination in thinking processes and learning cognition and in the creative self-expression of students in secondary school Literature classes. The paper summarizes theoretical pedagogical and psychological findings about imagination in cognitive activity and links them with the author’s practical experience in the work of a secondary school Literature teacher. The research issue is how to stimulate imagination in secondary school students’ cognitive activity during literature classes, thereby promoting their creative self-expression and self-experience. This issue is topical when contemplating the formation of a creative personality and a skilled, creative reader. The role of imagination is regarded from three viewpoints: the relation of imagination to the development of thinking; the role of imagination in creative self-expression and self-experience of students; creative exercises in secondary school literature classes as imagination stimulators. In the learning process related to artistic cognition, connection between scientific and artistically directed cognitive activity is relevant because the development of a free and creative personality requires linking of critical thinking, imagination and emotional attitudes, which in turn forms creative self-experience of students, the ability to use knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired in the learning process of diverse life situations. Creative problem tasks in Literature classes are one of the pedagogical means to encourage students to look for connections between different science fields, topics, facts, events, objects, phenomena, images and draw independent take-aways and conclusions, as well as encourage students to express themselves creatively. The research methods: literature analysis, content analysis, self-experience analysis, survey.

The article presents theoretical analysis of an important problem of pedagogical art education: creative individuality of a future art teacher as an important part of his or her professional self-development. It examines general meanings of such concepts as “personality”, “creative personality” and “creative personality of teacher”. On the basis of the analysis the essence and the main characteristics of creative personality of an art teacher it is possible to distinguish the following features: creative cognitive activity, critical thinking, the main focus on self-actualization, self-knowledge, self-improvement, spiritual culture, moral values orientation, self-fulfillment and self-expression in artistic creativity, pedagogical orientation, formed positive “Self-conception, the feeling of being special and unique as a teacher and an artist. In our opinion, the most complete development of creative personality of the future art teacher will be implemented in the process of active educational and cognitive activity, independent work, presentations of personal creative projects, exhibitions, etc. Moreover, according to scientists, any activity not only presents a person as a personality, but also contributes to the development of his personal traits, and, cin particular, development of creative personality.

This study focuses on a conceptual representation of the metaphysical and non-classical context of reflection in its subjective dichotomous understanding. The author successively reviews the specifics of reflection, as well as the features of methodology of cognition and self-knowledge in the context of determining the values and priorities of human development and consciousness. The article also includes an overview of the main categories of reflection through a breakdown of theoretical relationships and the most important conceptual discourses. The theoretical significance of the problem of cognition and self-knowledge is determined by the central role of man in society and history. The analysis shows that the methodology of cognition and self-knowledge should be based on the principles of axiological disengagement, a combination of logical and historical aspect, as well as on the coherence of theory and practice.

Results of the study related to polymorphism of ACE gene (rs1799752)‎, integrin αIIbβ3, and CSK gene (rs1378942) influencing development of arterial hypertension in young patients with metabolic syndrome are presented. Hypertension as a component of the metabolic syndrome was detected in 15.0% of young patients. Prevalence of mutant alleles of the studied genes among the examined patients was quite high, so homozygous DD genotype was found in 21.6%, and mutant D allele of the ACE gene in 47.4%. A high risk of hypertension in patients with MS was detected in carriers of the T allele of the CSK (rs1378942) gene – 54.8%, which was most often observed in a combination of polymorphic ACE and CSK gene loci (p = 0.0053).

Dramatic advances in therapy for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in the last 20 years have improved survival from a median of 2.5 years in the pretreatment era to 7.5 years currently. However, impressive as that may seem, it is important to note that a median survival of 7.5 years is equivalent to that of surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer, thus underscoring the importance of lung transplantation as a treatment option in patients with PAH. In this edition of Advances, Edelman has reviewed the pathway to transplantation for patients with PAH, detailing the recommendations for timing of referral, listing for lung transplantation, the role of the lung allocation score in allocating a donor organ, and the outcome of lung transplantation.

The article advances a hypothesis about the composition of Michel de Montaigne’s Essays. Specialists in the intellectual history of the Renaissance have long considered the relationship among Montaigne’s thematically heterogeneous thoughts, which unfold unpredictably and often seen to contradict each other. The waywardness of those reflections over the years was a way for Montaigne to construct a self-portrait. Spontaneity of thought is the essence of the person depicted and an experimental literary technique that was unprecedented in its time and has still not been surpassed. Montaigne often writes about freedom of reflection and regards it as an extremely important topic. There have been many attempts to interpret the haphazardness of the Essays as the guiding principle in their composition. According to one such interpretation, the spontaneous digressions and readiness to take up very different philosophical notions is a form of of varietas and distinguo, which Montaigne understood in the context of Renaissance philosophy. Another interpretation argues that the Essays employ the rhetorical techniques of Renaissance legal commentary. A third opinion regards the Essays as an example of sprezzatura, a calculated negligence that calls attention to the aesthetic character of Montaigne’s writing. The author of the article argues for a different interpretation that is based on the concept of idleness to which Montaigne assigned great significance. He had a keen appreciation of the role of otium in the culture of ancient Rome and regarded leisure as an inner spiritual quest for self-knowledge. According to Montaigne, idleness permits self-directedness, and it is an ideal form in which to practice the freedom of thought that brings about consistency in writing, living and reality, in all of which Montaigne finds one general property - complete inconstancy. Socratic self-knowledge, a skepticism derived from Pyrrho of Elis and Sextus Empiricus, and a rejection of the conventions of traditional rhetoric that was similar to Seneca’s critique of it were all brought to bear on the concept of idleness and made Montaigne’s intellectual and literary experimentation in the Essays possible.
