Alysis Reliability Study: Rearranging Phenomenology into Etiology in Mental Disorders

‘Alysis’ )abbreviation of Neuroanalysis(, - is the chosen definition for the rearrangement of psychiatric phenomology to approximate the hypothesized etiology of mental disorders. Currently the relevant scales such as Positive and Negative Symptoms Scale (PANSS) for schizophrenia and the Hamilton scales for depression and anxiety, and Mania Rating Scale have no specific guiding principle in the order of items. ‘Alysis’ is a reorganization of multiple known scales to fit a future brain-related diagnostic approach to mental disorders. Due to the regrouping of items from different scales and reorganizing them according to a brain-related hypothetic order, it is necessary to reassess the reliability of the new ‘Alysis’ rearrangement. In this work the new ‘Alysis’ format is described and then using t-scores analysis, compared to the widely-used Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) scale for mental disorders. It is shown that ‘Alysis’ is reliable thus can be a good diagnostic platform to go ahead and generate personalized testable-predictions about brain-related diagnostics for psychiatric patients.

The synaptic organization in the C. elegans neural network suggests significant local compartmentalized computations

Neurons are characterized by elaborate tree-like dendritic structures that support local computations by integrating multiple inputs from upstream presynaptic neurons. It is less clear if simple neurons, consisting of a few or even a single neurite, may perform local computations as well. To address this question, we focused on the compact neural network of C. elegans animals for which the full wiring diagram is available, including the coordinates of individual synapses. We find that the positions of the chemical synapses along the neurites are not randomly distributed, nor can they be explained by anatomical constraints. Instead, synapses tend to form clusters, an organization that supports local compartmentalized computations. In mutually-synapsing neurons, connections of opposite polarity cluster separately, suggesting that positive and negative feedback dynamics may be implemented in discrete compartmentalized regions along neurites. In triple-neuron circuits, the non-random synaptic organization may facilitate local functional roles, such as signal integration and coordinated activation of functionally-related downstream neurons. These clustered synaptic topologies emerge as a guiding principle in the network presumably to facilitate distinct parallel functions along a single neurite, effectively increasing the computational capacity of the neural network.

Die Corporate Governance der Bankaktiengesellschaft

The regulation of banks' internal corporate governance is characterized by an interplay between banking supervisory law and corporate law. This book examines the resulting special corporate law of banks from a legal-doctrinal and functional-economic perspective. First, the economic specifics of the corporate governance of banks are examined. Then, the current legal framework is analysed and the corporate objective of banks – as a guiding principle for directors’ duties – is determined. Finally, the special corporate law of banks is subjected to a functional analysis against the backdrop of the regulatory objectives – risk prevention in the public interest – and corresponding reform proposals are made.

Kepimpinan Non Muslim di Malaysia Menurut Perspektif Maqāṣid Al-Sharī'ah

Islam has provided a guiding principle regarding the involvement of non-Muslims in aspects of governance and administration. In Malaysia, this right has been recognized since independence which saw the involvement of non-Muslims in the executive administration such as ministers and key administrators at the federal and state levels. The relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims is one of the main themes that are often discussed in the Quran. However, the interpretation some of the verses seem to be done out of context has created confusion and misunderstanding in the society. The voting and appointment of non -Muslim candidates in several important government positions such as the Chief Justice, Attorney General of Malaysia and Federal Minister has sparked controversy in Malaysia. Thus, this study aims to analyze the concept of non-Muslim leadership in Malaysia according to the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharī’ah. The study was conducted qualitatively using the library method by analyzing the texts of the Qur’an and Hadith as well as the debates of Muslim scholars on the concept of nonMuslim leadership in an Islamic country. In addition, content analysis method was also conducted towards the provisions of the Federal Constitution and the report of the Department of Statistics Malaysia to examine the current application of non-Muslim leadership in Malaysia. Although the Federal Constitution has provided basic guidelines on the administration of the country, but some important criteria outlined by Islam need to be emphasized to preserve the sensitivity and harmony of the plural society in Malaysia, especially the Muslim community as the majority in this country.

Reconstruction after hemimandibulectomy by a titanium mesh and particulate cancellous bone and marrow harvested from posterior ilia: a case report

A particulate cancellous bone and marrow (PCBM) graft combined with titanium (Ti-) mesh tray has become one of the most popular mandibular reconstruction methods. The technique has been applied to the mandibular discontinuity defects after segmental mandibulectomy. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports on using the technique after hemimandibulectomy, during which a wide mandibular resection, including the condyle, is performed. Here we report firstly a case of mandibular reconstruction after hemimandibulectomy, using a plate and soft-tissue free flap, followed by a Ti-mesh and PCBM harvested from the bilateral posterior ilia, which was successful. This case report first revealed how bone resorption occurred clinically in mandibular reconstruction using PCBM and Ti-mesh tray after hemimandibulectomy. We also revealed the high predictability of the mandibular reconstruction using PCBM and Ti-mesh tray after hemimandibulectomy. Our report also provides a guiding principle to overcome the limitation of mandibular reconstruction using PCBM and Ti-mesh tray after hemimandibulectomy. However, our manuscript has limited evidence being a case report.

Anchored in Justice: Yorùbá Philosophy and the Politics of a Diverse State

As a major ethnic nationality in the multinational state cobbled together and christened by Lord Frederick Lugard, the Yoruba have been an integral part of the politics of the Nigerian diverse state since 1914. From the vicissitudes of the politics of nationalist struggles against colonial imposition to the politics of independence and nation-building, the core traditional values and philosophical outlook of each of the ethnic nationalities are discernible in their approaches to the issues that confront the new state. In this paper, I identify the core traditional values of the Yoruba nationality. I focus specifically on the Yoruba fascination with justice as a guiding principle as they relate to other nationalities in dealing with the issues that confront the new state. I argue that this fascination is not an arbitrary recourse in the politics of the new state. Rather, obsession with justice has been a defining feature of intra-Yoruba dealings from precolonial times to the present. To illustrate, I recount a few historical and mythical examples from the radical and unconventional social critics, Kọrú Ọjà, Ọpálábà and Aróhánrán of the Old Ọyọ Empire, to the historical Àare ̣ Kúrunmí of Ìjàyè. Finally, I highlight a few episodes in the political development of Nigeria and the role that the Yoruba obsession with justice has played in the political journey of the country.

Markers of Ecological Conversion

Conversion is a transformation altering worldviews and identities through changed awareness of self, community (including religion, society, politics, economics and industry) and global ecology. The guiding principle of Laudato si’ by Pope Francis is contained in several points, “Everything is related”, relies on scientifical findings: life on Earth’s current forms depend on natural equilibriums. Biodiversity collapse and global warming are two deteriorations which deeply threaten the humanity survival. Christian tradition offers some precious assets to face this emergency, and become committed, as a Christian, in ecological causes: Ecological conversion is essentially a return to the realization of God’s will in the matter of caring for one’s home.

Staatliche Governance-Kapazität für Nachhaltigkeit: Konzeptualisierung und Anwendung eines Messinstruments in Schweizer Kantonen

Regierungen und Verwaltungen richten ihr Handeln vermehrt auf Nachhaltigkeit aus. Doch wie erfolgreich sind sie dabei? Wir stellen ein Instrument zur Messung nachhaltigkeitsbezogener interner Governance-Kapazität vor. Die Anwendung auf Schweizer Kantone offenbart deutliche Kapazitätsunterschiede und zeigt Möglichkeiten zur Stärkung staatlicher Governance-Kapazität auf.Sustainability has become an important guiding principle that has not only found its way into numerous policies, but also into the “engine rooms” of governance. Governments and administrations have established diverse governance arrangements orienting state actions towards sustainability. How does this integration of sustainability into governmental and administrative activity succeed? This paper proposes an instrument for the measurement and comparison of sustainability-oriented internal governance capacity and operationalizes it in the context of Swiss cantons. The application of the measurement tool documents the diversity of governance arrangements and their different capacities. It shows where, and how, the sustainability governance of governments and administrations can be further strengthened.

The Wisdom of God as the Eternal Feminine: Dante and V.S. Solovyov on Sophianic Unity

The paper deals with the continuity of ideas concerning the Eternal Feminine and Sophia as the Wisdom of God from the point of view of Dante Alighieri and Vl.S. Solovyov. The analysis focuses not so much on the very notion of Sophia as on the meaning, origins, and contexts of their conception of Sophianic unity. The latter, being an ideal form of reducing a multitude to a unity, is considered as either an alternative or a supplement to the model of totality that reproduces the binary and hierarchical structure which at the social and political level is considered to be the pattern of imperial centralism. The study proceeds from the consequences of Dante’s negation of the difference between the spiritual sense of the Holy Scriptures and the literary sense of secular poetry. It is shown that for Dante it was necessary, first of all, to understand under whose inspiration and guidance he composed his verses, which gave particular importance to the image of a guide in his magnum opus. I show that in this context Dante turned to the intuitive representation of the feminine idea as a guiding principle that was personified by Beatrice, although Dante did not use the term “Sophia” and could not use the term “the Eternal Feminine,” which did not yet exist at the time. The disputes in Dante’s time on the essence of monarchy are considered in connection with his understanding of femininity as the guiding principle of such a unity of humanity that could reject a rigid hierarchy and, thus, free itself from imperial centralism. It is pointed out that the social and political aspects of the all-encompassing Sophia, which also resolves contradictions as a supplement to the intrinsically contradictory Logos, were given great importance in Solovyov’s philosophy. The paper concludes that it was Solovyov, who, having identified Sophia with humanity as a whole, created the presuppositions for a detailed study of the structure of Sophia’s unity. This study ends with a discussion of the validity of the convergence of a non-hierarchical Sophianic unity with the deconstructive strategies of modern philosophy, the aim of which is the elimination of binary oppositions and hierarchies from the gender context.

Teledescante nº1: polyphony in time of plague

This report contemplates an instrumental composition as a project for audiovisual production in social isolation, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the problematization of the impact of the pandemic in music making, solutions were sought that were not only viable as an artistic result but that could also be projected in a purposeful and prospective way in times of humanitarian crisis, of dismal symmetry between capitalist neoliberalism and programmed neglect in public health policies. After a description of the research on the use of art in past pandemics as a guiding principle in the choice of materials, the audiovisual production is detailed. The piece was written in April 2020 as a result of the analysis of a Renaissance motet, which, in turn, was conceived as a tribute to a composer who had perished from the plague and as a palliative against the disease.
