The intertwining of law and literature in the Italian tradition constitutes the subject of the present issue of Forum Italicum. The volume is divided into a first section of scholarly essays and a second section of dialogues between the editor of the volume and Italian authors and one publisher whose works are imbued with legal elements. An analysis of recent judiciary events through the lens of a literary mindset ends the work. This introduction to the volume starts by bringing examples of the presence of the legal discourse in Italian literary texts. Then, it offers the editor’s view on the relationship between the two disciplines. As the author of this introduction sees it, law and literature are ontologically different disciplines, no matter how much they intersect and cross-fertilize each other. Commented synopsis of the essays and dialogues will conclude this introduction.

This essay covers the relationship among images, in particular photography, and the literary text. The concept of alterity, in the relation between the subject who photograph, and the object, the “other”, which is photographed, is analyzed, as well as the iconoclasm that renders historically difficult the use of images and texts in combined midia. Most of existing studies concern the inclusion of photographs in literary texts, but some relate to photographs with short texts, like haikai, flash fiction and even epigrams. In the first case we study the works of W.G. Sebald that make extensive use of vernacular photographs around which the narratives are developed. In the second case we study the work of Bertolt Brecht, Kriegsfibel, where the author writes one epigram for each image of the WW II collected from the press, with the objective of awakening the critical reading of such images and the news that they refer to. In the end a description is made of the work of the author about Jorge Luis Borges. The work consists of an essay about the themes and obsessions of the Argentinian writer, four short stories inspired in his universe and photographs of Buenos Aires that refer indexically to his work and life.

Following the development of e-literature and the state of research on the subject both in Poland and abroad, the author attempts to outline research perspectives for e-poetics. This discipline, barely over twenty years old, concerns the study of literary texts that are created with the use of digital technologies. Hypertextual works available online and via digital carriers are characterized by intermediality and interactivity, and they differ from printed literature in that computers are indispensable tools for their creation, existence and reception. What are the consequences of this change of medium for literature, its structure, the process of communication with the reader and the interpretative possibilities? How can one describe the relationship between the old and the new form of a literary text? Finally, why is it important to introduce research on electronic literature into academic education?

The aim of this article is to explore a relationship that has not yet been examined in the contemporary debate on law and literature. The law can, indeed, constitute the subject matter of a novel. But as we argue in this article, the law can also determine what counts, and what does not count as a novel. We defend this thesis by analyzing Ian McEwan’s “The Children Act” (2014) and David Foster Wallace’s “The Pale King” (2011). In the context of contemporary cultural production, the law has the power and the legitimacy to create what we call the space of fiction. As we intend to show, the law can create the demarcation line between fictional and non-fictional narratives.

The subject of this work is the issue of the admissibility of stipulating liquidated damages for failure to pay or delayed payment of remuneration to subcontractors in the light of article 483 par. 1 of the Civil Code, which allows stipulating contractual penalties only in non-pecuniary obligations. The basis for the considerations is the content of the resolution of the Supreme Court of June 30th, 2020 (III CZP 67/19), which took a firm position in the ongoing legal discourse. This publication is a comparison on the basis of the previous jurisprudence and the doctrine of the relationship between liquidated damages defined in article 483 par. 1 of the Civil Code, and liquidated damages provided for in the Act of 29th January 2004 — Public Procurement Law.

Something out of a Nightmare: On Cho Seung-Hui and his Texts:This article examines the relationship between the literary texts that the Virginia Tech shooter, Cho Seung-Hui, wrote and his terrifying deeds. Some of the texts were – shortly after the shootings – accessible on the Internet. The publishing of the texts raised several discussions about whether you could predict the acts of Cho by examining his texts. While most people, often very one-sidedly, associated linked author, texts and perpetrator together, this article discusses the subject in a more balanced manner, both in relation to didactical considerations and in relation to the question about what impact literature as such has on young people today. Thus the point in the article is that Cho’s texts do not hold any signs of relief or unrestraint in spite of their violent nature, but only show intellectual poverty. The biggest tragedy in this perspective may perhaps be that creative relief finds a more suitable expression elsewhere, in actual deeds.

The subject of the analysis in the article are the etymological explanations presented in the old non-literary texts (i.e. the texts that function primarily outside literature, serving various practical purposes), i.e. in the sixteenth-century Kronika, to jest historyja świata (Chronicle, that is the history of the entire world) by Marcin Bielski and in two eighteenth-century encyclopaedic texts: Informacyja matematyczna (Mathematical information) by Wojciech Bystrzonowski and Nowe Ateny (New Athens) by Benedykt Chmielowski. The review of the etymological comments allows us to take notice of their considerable substantive and formal diversity. These comments apply to both native and foreign vocabulary. On the one hand, they provide information on the origin of proper names (toponyms and anthroponyms), and on the other hand, a whole range of these etymological comments concern common names. A depth of etymological comments presented in non-literary texts is significantly diversified and independent of the nature of the vocabulary to which these comments apply – they can be merely tips on sources of borrowings of foreign words, but they can also constitute a deeper analysis of the meaning and structure of individual words, both native and foreign. These comments are usually implementations of folk etymology. The role of etymological considerations in former non-literary texts is significant. First of all, these texts have a ludic function, typical of popularised texts – they are supposed to surprise, intrigue and entertain readers. Secondly, they serve a cognitive function typical of non-literary texts – they are supposed to expand the readers’ knowledge about the world and language. Thirdly, they have a persuasive function, which is a distinctive feature of both popularised and non-literary texts – they are supposed to provoke the readers’ thoughts on the relationship between non-linguistic reality and the linguistic way of its interpretation, they also stimulate linguistic interests, which was particularly important in the past when the reflection on the native language was poor.

The Mesozoic-Cenozoic coral Order Scleractinia has been suggested to have originated or evolved (1) by direct descent from the Paleozoic Order Rugosa or (2) by the development of a skeleton in members of one of the anemone groups that probably have existed throughout Phanerozoic time. In spite of much work on the subject, advocates of the direct descent hypothesis have failed to find convincing evidence of this relationship. Critical points are:(1) Rugosan septal insertion is serial; Scleractinian insertion is cyclic; no intermediate stages have been demonstrated. Apparent intermediates are Scleractinia having bilateral cyclic insertion or teratological Rugosa.(2) There is convincing evidence that the skeletons of many Rugosa were calcitic and none are known to be or to have been aragonitic. In contrast, the skeletons of all living Scleractinia are aragonitic and there is evidence that fossil Scleractinia were aragonitic also. The mineralogic difference is almost certainly due to intrinsic biologic factors.(3) No early Triassic corals of either group are known. This fact is not compelling (by itself) but is important in connection with points 1 and 2, because, given direct descent, both changes took place during this only stage in the history of the two groups in which there are no known corals.

This study aims to find out the relationship between learning style and students’ knowledge aspect on Computer System Subject at SMK IT Rahmatan Karimah of  Central Bengkulu, the type of research is quantitative and the subject of research is grade X in SMK IT Rahmatan Karimah of  Central Bengkulu. Data collection techniques using observation, Questionnaire and documentation. Data analysis techniques used were Descriptive Analysis, and inferential Statistical Analysis. The results of visual learning style post-test were 11 people with a mean of 76.36, an auditory learning style of 8 people at a mean of 62.14, a kinesthetic learning style of 3 people at a mean of 50.33, apart from that (r x y = 2.35) and the magnitude of r is reflected in the table (r table = 0.4132). Then rxy > r table ie = 2.35> 0.4132. In other words, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It has a significant relationship between the learning styles of students and students’ knowledge aspect on Computer System Subject of grade X TKJ in SMK IT Rahmatan Karimah of  Central Bengkulu

African states and institutions believe that the principle of territorial integrity is applicable to sub-state groups and limits their right to self-determination, contrary to international law. The Anglophone Problem in Cameroon has been an ever-present issue of social, political and economic debates in the country, albeit most times in undertones. This changed as the problem metamorphosed into an otherwise preventable devastating armed conflict with external self-determination having become very popular among the Anglophone People. This situation brings to light the drawbacks of irregular decolonisation, third world colonialism and especially the relationship between self-determination and territorial integrity in Africa.

Queen Margaret (1070–93) has been the subject of much historical research. Previous studies of the queen and later saint have been undertaken from several different perspectives, including the biographical, institutional and hagiographical. In addition, some scholars have focused on her piety and later cult. Although a saint's miracles were one of the significant elements affecting the development of a cult, far less interest has been shown in the geopolitical importance of the miracles attributed to St Margaret and the relationship between the miracles and the saint's cult. The intention of this paper is to examine the miracles attributed to St Margaret and to identify their characteristics within the context of their contribution to, and influence in, the development of her cult.
