Vortex core-spun yarn containing a metal wire has a broad application prospect owing to the combination of its fasciated structure, durability, comfort, and its electrical properties. In this paper, three-dimensional numerical simulations on the flow characteristics inside the nozzle of a modified vortex spinning system for producing core-spun yarns are carried out to investigate the effect of some process and nozzle structural parameters—the nozzle pressure, distance between nozzle inlet and spindle, and protrusion length of the filament feeding tube—on the flow field. Using a machine vision system, experiments are also conducted to investigate the effects of these parameters on the wrapping defects of the vortex core-spun yarns which are then analyzed based on the simulation results. The number of wrapping defects on the yarn greatly decreases as the nozzle pressure increases from 4 × 105 Pa to 5 × 105 Pa. As the distance between nozzle inlet and spindle increases, the number of wrapping defects on the yarn first decreases and then increases. The effect of protrusion length of the filament feeding tube is found to be insignificant. This experimental and numerical study can provide a feasible way for optimizing the quality of the core-spun yarn produced on the modified vortex spinning system and analyzing the mechanism of the effects of parameters.

In this study, the effect of yarn linear density, delivery speed and nozzle pressure on Rieter air jet spun yarn strength was investigated. A multiple regression model was used to study the combined effect of these parameters and response surfaces were obtained. Results showed that by increasing the nozzle pressure, the yarn tensile strength improves till a specific limit, then it deteriorates afterwards. Based on the different combinations of processing variables, optimal running conditions were obtained. Along with the experiment, a mathematical model that predicts air jet spun yarn strength at a short gauge length has been presented. Fibre parameters in addition to yarn structural parameters were used to obtain the theoretical yarn strength. The results showed a satisfactory agreement between the experimental and theoretical results.

An agent-aided system (AAS) for improving comprehensive properties of ring spun yarns with the aid of viscosity and surface tension of the agent is reported in this paper. The mechanism of the humidification and friction process of the AAS was investigated, and related experiments were also carried out to verify the mechanism of analysis. The results confirm that the AAS can attach the fiber ends protruding out of a yarn body on the yarn surface and assist in twisting the fiber ends back into the interior of the yarn body, resulting in a significant reduction of the modified ring spun yarn hairiness. Moreover, the yarn hairiness is prominently reduced after the winding process. The experimental results also show that a speed ratio of 1.3 between the rotating speed of the cylinder and the output speed of the yarn leads to the greatest extent of harmful hairiness reduction (34%), which also corresponds to optimal modified yarn tenacity. Meanwhile, the modified ring spun yarns show a tight and smooth appearance, and the yarn evenness has no deterioration. In addition, the AAS is applicable to both cotton and viscose yarns with different yarn counts. Therefore, the AAS can potentially be used to reduce yarn hairiness for ring spun yarns and enhance the quality of ring spun yarns in the textile industry.

Different moisture regain of cotton roving was obtained by changing the relative humidity of constant temperature and humidity chamber. Then the cotton roving with different moisture regain was used for producing spun yarn on sample spinning frame. The hairiness value, evenness, breaking strength and elongation of the above spun yarns were tested. And the influence of moisture regain of cotton roving on the quality of spun yarn was discussed. The results show that, there is an exponential relationship between moisture regains of cotton roving and relative environmental humidity, and when the value of the moisture regain of cotton roving is about 7% ~7.3%, the spun yarn quality is the best.

In internet market, content providers (CPs) continue to play a primordial role in the process of accessing different types of data. Competition in this area is fierce; customers are looking for providers that offer them good content (credibility of content and quality of service) with a reasonable price. In this work, the authors analyze this competition between CPs and the economic influence of their strategies on the market. The authors formulate their problem as a non-cooperative game among multiple CPs for the same market. Through a detailed analysis, the researchers prove uniqueness of a pure Nash Equilibrium (NE). Furthermore, a fully distributed algorithm to converge on the NE point is presented. In order to quantify how efficient the NE point is, a detailed analysis of the Price of Anarchy (PoA) is adopted to ensure the performance of the system at equilibrium. Finally, an extensive numerical study is provided to describe the interactions between CPs and to point out the importance of quality of service (QoS) and credibility of content in the market.

Abstract This paper presents a computer vision system for evaluating the quality of deburring and edge breaking on aluminum and steel blocks. This technique produces both quantitative (size) and qualitative (quality) measures of chamfering operation from images taken with an off-the-shelf camera. We demonstrate that the proposed computer vision system can detect edge chamfering geometry within a 1–2mm range. The proposed technique does not require precise calibration of the camera to the part nor specialized hardware beyond a macro lens. Off-the-shelf components and a CAD model of the original part geometry are used for calibration. We also demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique on edge breaking quality control.

PurposeWith the popularization of electronic products, the electromagnetic radiation pollution has been the fourth largest pollution after water, air and noise pollution. Therefore, electromagnetic shielding property of textiles is attracting more attention. In this paper, the properties of electromagnetic shielding yarns and fabrics were studied.Design/methodology/approachTen kinds of yarn, stainless steel short fiber and polyester blend yarn with three different blending ratios T/S 90/10, T/S 80/20 and T/S 70/30, stainless steel short fiber, polyester and cotton blend yarn with blending ratio C/T/S 35/35/30, core-spun yarn with one 30 um stainless steel filament C/T28tex/S(30 um), core-spun yarn with two 15 um stainless steel filaments (C/T28tex/S(15 um)/S(15 um)), twin-core-spun yarn with one 30 um stainless steel filament and one 50D spandex filament C/T28tex/S(30 um)/SP(50D), sirofil wrapped yarn with one 30 um stainless steel filament feeding from left S(30 um)+C/T28tex, sirofil wrapped yarn with one 30 um stainless steel filament feeding from right C/T28tex+S(30 um), sirofil wrapped yarn with two 15 um stainless steel filaments feeding from two sides S(15 um)+C/T28tex+ S(15 um), were spun. The qualities of spun yarns were measured. Then, for analyzing the electromagnetic shielding properties of fabrics made of different spun yarns, 20 kinds of fabrics were woven.FindingsThe tested results show that comparing to the T/S 80/20 blend yarn, the resistivity of composite yarns with the same ratio of the stainless steel filament is smaller. The possible reason is that comparing to the stainless steel short fiber, the conductivity of stainless steel filament is better because of the continuous distribution of stainless steel in the filament. Comparing with the core-spun yarn, the conductivity of the sirofil wrapped yarn is a little better. Comparing to the fabric woven by the blend yarn, the electromagnetic shielding of the fabric woven by the composite yarn is better, and comparing to the fabric woven by the core-spun yarn, the electromagnetic shielding of the fabric woven by the sirofil yarn is a little better. The possible reason is that the conduction network can be produced by the stainless steel filament wrapped on the staple fiber yarn surface in the fabric, and the electromagnetic wave can be transmitted in the network.Originality/valueIn this paper, the properties of electromagnetic shielding yarns and fabrics were studied. Ten kinds of yarn, including three stainless steel short fiber and polyester blend yarns, one stainless steel short fiber, polyester and cotton blend yarn, two core-spun yarns, one twin-core-spun yarn, three sirofil wrapped yarn, were spun. Then, for analyzing the electromagnetic shielding properties of fabrics made of different spun yarns, 20 kinds of fabrics were woven. The effects of fabric warp and weft densities, fabric structures, yarn kinds, yarn distributions in the fabric on electromagnetic shielding were analyzed.

Abstract In this study, the wicking properties of ring and compact-siro ring spun staple yarns were compared. The twist level, which is related to the structure of the staple yarns, was found to significantly influence the wicking property of the two kinds of yarn. Polyester staple fibers with 1.33 dtex × 38 mm were selected as the staple fiber material, and the effect of the twist level on the wicking property was investigated using the capillary rise method. The results show that with a decreasing twist coefficient, the wicking height increases with a decrease in yarn compactness. The compact-siro spun yarn showed better wicking properties owing to it special ply yarn structure. Furthermore, the tension property of the yarns decreased significantly with a decrease in the twist coefficient. Compact-siro spinning was carried out to obtain staple yarns with lower twist coefficients, and the yarns showed great improvement in terms of yarn strength, fiber straightness, and wicking properties. Thus, compact-siro spinning is an efficient method to improve the wicking properties of staple yarns.
