This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of social media addiction on the relationship between leisure boredom and loneliness. A total of 330 high school students in Istanbul, 212 male (64.2%) and 118 female (35.8%), participated in the study voluntarily. In the study, the "Leisure Boredom Scale" developed by Iso-Ahola and Weissinger (1990) to measure participants' perceptions of boredom in their leisure, the "UCLA Loneliness Scale" developed by Peplau and Cutrona (1980) to measure loneliness level, and the "Social Media Addiction scale for Adolescents" developed by Eijnden, Lemmens and Valkenburg (2016) to measure the social media addiction level, were used as data collection tools. The convenience sampling method, which is one of the random sampling methods, was used in the sample selection and the face-to-face survey technique was preferred. In the analysis of the obtained data, descriptive statistics via the SPSS package program, Pearson Correlation, and regression analysis of the indirect impact approach based on the Bootstrap method via PROCESS v3.5 macro were performed. As a result, it was observed that leisure boredom had statistically significant effects on social media addiction and loneliness, and social media addiction on loneliness. Besides, regarding the main aim of the research, it was determined that social media addiction had a mediating effect on the relationship between leisure boredom and loneliness. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Social networks are becoming an integral part of people's lives. Students are spending much time on social media and are considered the largest category that uses such application. This study tries to explore the influence of social media use, and especially Facebook, on high school students' performance. The study used the GPA of students in four courses and their responses regarding the use of social media. Statistical analysis is used to infer this relationship and its implications. Results indicated a support of this study aim and the relationship between the different dimensions of Facebook influence on students with respect to the time spent on the Internet and Facebook specifically. Conclusions and future work are stated at the end.

Research has demonstrated that cyber victimization is consistently associated with higher problem behaviors such as problematic technology use. However, little research has examined specific individual dispositions that can serve as a buffer in the link between cyber victimization and higher problematic uses of technology (i.e., problematic Internet, smartphone, and social media), such as core self-evaluations (CSE). A convenience sample of 1211 high school students, 657 females, 554 males, aged 12 to 18 (mean age = 13.74) completed measures of cyber victimization, CSE, and different problematic technology-related behaviors. Results of correlational analysis revealed significant associations between cyber victimization and all problematic uses of technology. Our findings also suggested that high CSE weakened the relationship between cyber victimization and two of the three problematic uses of technology. Consistent with social compensation theory, cyber victimization was concurrently linked to different problematic uses of technology. Low CSE also strengthened the link between cyber victimization and problems use of smartphones and social media and also showed a marginally significant interaction with cyber victimization in predicting problematic Internet use. Implications of these preliminary findings are discussed and avenues for further research are offered.
