This article examines the process by which entrepreneurs identify and work with an arbitrage opportunity emerging from an episodic crisis. Although prior research has investigated the role of entrepreneurial characteristics and context on opportunity development, the specific manner in which these factors emerge in the course of opportunity development during a crisis remain underexplored. By adopting a qualitative approach grounded in case studies of eight entrepreneurs in the US distillery industry, this article addresses that gap by examining the process of arbitrage opportunity development during COVID-19. Our study reveals the primacy of both causation and effectuation-based entrepreneurial decision logics and the role of double-loop learning, as entrepreneurs interact with the time-compressed duration of the arbitrage opportunity. Implications and insights for entrepreneurs, researchers and policymakers are discussed.

This report from the field describes some of the author’s methods of audience engagement as a means of social engagement, discussing the implications for practice. The report invites dialogue with the reader about the usefulness of audience engagement and ways it can be manifested before, during and after performance. Audiences who are engaged in the process of the performance beyond the standard role of passive spectator are more likely to be motivated to deliverable endeavors post performance. This report from the field offers four brief case studies as examples of audience engagement and includes pragmatic techniques for using theatre as a vehicle for personal and social change through audience engagement. It explores how artists can galvanize and empower audiences by creating experiential communities pre, during, and post-show. Drawing upon examples from high-quality international theatre projects written and directed by the author, the essay investigates and describes the work of The H.E.A.T. Collective including My Heart is in the East (U.S., U.K. and Europe), The FEAR Project (produced in the US, India and Czech Republic), Emma Goldman Day (U.S.).

West dominated global financial institutions like IMF and World Bank serves the interests of the US in a unipolar world. Some new emergent economies along with China have endeavored to counter these global hegemonic financial institutions by initiating new financial institutions in the form of BRICS and NDB. This paper attempts to explore the role of a rising China in BRICS, and how it makes ways for multipolarity. It further reveals the implications of the economic plans of BRICS nations in the western world. Through descriptive-analytical research, that draws inference from a mainly qualitative approach, this research has been informed from both primary and secondary data. China is successful in her approach towards global multipolarity, which is being countered by the US through a new Cold War. The western world should view the economic blocs and mounting economies optimistically as opportunities, not threats to avoid future conflicts in the form of New Cold Wars.

Abstract. How do coaching interventions work? This study contributes to process-outcome research in coaching by examining the impact of coaches’ problem-specific interventions on coaching results. Paying particular attention to the mediation processes in coaching seems to be a promising research area, which has received little attention to date. Using several points of measurement over time and taking nested data structure into account, 33 coaching dyads were analyzed using longitudinal multilevel analyses. Results showed a general coaching effect as well as the mediating role of learning processes. As expected, clients’ perceived goal attainment increased over the course of the coaching sessions. Furthermore, problem-specific interventions by the coach, especially clarification of meaning and mastery/coping, led to an increase in goal attainment mediated by clients’ perceived learning experience (double-loop learning). Our results underscore the importance of stimulating learning processes by specific interventions to improve coaching effectiveness.

There is a sacred relationship between Native Americans and the environment. The importance of those sacred beliefs in water rights in the United States (US) is examined through a series of case studies. A thorough review of available literature displays a trend toward less dependence on the US for representation and a greater recognition of Native American traditions. The increased role of Native Americans in water rights quantification and resource development provides greater appreciation and understanding of their traditions and beliefs.

AbstractThe role of domestic courts in the application of international law is one of the most vividly debated issues in contemporary international legal doctrine. However, the methodology of interpretation of international norms used by these courts remains underexplored. In particular, the application of the Vienna rules of treaty interpretation by domestic courts has not been sufficiently assessed so far. Three case studies (from the US Supreme Court, the Mexican Supreme Court, and the European Court of Justice) show the diversity of approaches in this respect. In the light of these case studies, the article explores the inevitable tensions between two opposite, yet equally legitimate, normative expectations: the desirability of a common, predictable methodology versus the need for flexibility in adapting international norms to a plurality of domestic environments.

ABSTRACTThis research was conducted to find out the role of the Tax Return policy in order to increase the number of tourist visits in Indonesia and to study not olny any aspects related to the implementation of the Tax Return policy in Indonesia but also the solutions to overcome it. This research is established as a concern on the government's target to reach 20 million tourist arrivals to Indonesia in 2019. To achieve this target, additional strategies are needed, one of which is the VAT refund policy for foreign tourists. This money refund is made as an incentive for foreign tourists in order to make them interested on visiting Indonesia. A qualitative approach is used in this study, precisely by using case studies. The results of the study show that VAT refund policy in Indonesia is not effective enough to increase the number of tourist visits to Indonesia. It can be derived by the minimum amount submitted for refunding foreign money. The Islamic financing system in Malaysia is rapidly developing from time to time, with a record achievement exceeding the target of 20 percent in 2016 as intended in Central Bank of Malaysia’s Financial Sector Plan. Such a vital advancement of the Islamic financial industry needs to be in line with the advancement of an effective framework in establishing an environment that supports the industry’s development. The Central Bank of Malaysia Act (CBMA) 2009 provides that the judicial body and the arbitrator shall refer to the Central Bank of Malaysia’s Shariah Advisory Council, on any Shariah questions pertaining to Islamic financial cases. However, there are still some cases that were not referred to as the Shariah Advisory Council. This paperwork will analyze Islamic financial cases that are referred to the Shariah Advisory Council. The methodology of this study is of the qualitative approach, through case studies based on cases that have been decided in the civil court. The result of the analysis found that, from 8 Islamic financial cases between 2009 until 2018, there are only 7 cases that were being referred to the Shariah Advisory Council, covering sharia issues that involve contract principles. Meanwhile, the remaining one cases were not being referred to, because no requirement is needed to refer the case to the council. This study is expected to update the development in relation to the legal position and the statutory role of the Shariah Advisory Council on the court’s decision in Islamic financial cases.
