Purpose Although positive psychology emphasizes the importance of reflecting on success in promoting strengths use and self-efficacy, no research has developed a measure of reflection on success. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate the scales for reflection on success and failures. Design/methodology/approach Study 1 was conducted to extract the dimensions of reflection on success and failures using survey data from nurses (n = 298), whereas Study 2 involved validation of the scales using a two-wave survey of physical therapists (n = 291). Findings In Study 1, the factors of “reflection on success” and “reflection on failures” were extracted by exploratory factor analysis. In Study 2, the discriminant validity of the two scales was established via confirmatory factor analyses. The structural equation modeling results indicated that reflection on success promoted work authenticity, work engagement and strengths use, while reflection on failures only promoted work engagement, indicating the convergent validity of the scales. Research limitations/implications As the research subjects were medical professionals in Japan, the scales need to be validated with samples from a wide range of occupations and cultural backgrounds, in future research. Originality/value The present research expands the literature on reflection and strengths-based approach by introducing the “success–failures” dimension based on positive psychology, broaden-and-build theory and job demands–resources theory.

We investigated the relationship between employees' strengths use and innovation through the mediator of their work engagement. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data from 158 employees at 3 companies in China. Structural equation modeling results show that work engagement partially mediated the relationship between employee strengths use and innovation. In addition, employee strengths use increased their innovation and made them more engaged in their work, and employees' work engagement, in turn, promoted their innovative behavior. These findings suggest that strengths use alone does not enhance employee innovation: Work engagement is also important. Directions for future research are discussed.

Abstract:The goal of this research has been to design and validate an instrument to evaluate the assessment process in higher education from the perspective of a learning-oriented assessment, characterized by incorporating evaluation activities as learning activities, involve students in the process and provide accurate feedback to guide changes towards improving learning. For this, a scale on the Assessment of Learning (EEA, Escala de Evaluación de los Aprendizajes) was developed and applied to a sample of 1205 students of a Chilean university. The psychometric properties of the proposed scale were evaluated as well as its capability to reflect the theoretical concepts and constructs used. For statistical analysis, the method of partial least squares (PLS) was used in a structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show that the scale is valid and reliable to measure the process of learning assessment. Moreover, they have confirmed the reliability of the items, dimensions and discriminant and convergent validity. Consequently, the results of the research can confirm the theoretical model of nine dimensions of learning-oriented assessment: coherence between learning objectives and evaluation, hedging, use of results obtained, planning, contents, systemizing, agents, feedback and moments.

The consumption of luxury goods is complex in its essence permeate interpretation failures. In this sense the objective of this study is to describe the development and validation of a tool for analyzing the real reasons behind the decision to consume luxury products. This quantitative, descriptive study was conducted in three capitals fields, where 385 consumers of luxury goods were interviewed. Its preparation was possible because of existing studies and national and international theory, constituted from the sequential use of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The final scale consisted of 35 questions that showed good internal consistency and factorial stability. Analyses indicated that the exclusivity factor, tradition and status are key elements for the consumption of luxury, and tradition presents itself as the most important aspect in the pursuit of pleasure. The contribution of this study is to provide a tool that brings understanding to the consumption of luxury, a process fraught with opportunities for various areas of the Brazilian economy.

Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to analyze the influence of exogenous variables (research and extension (RE), marketing aspects (MA), and infrastructure development (ID)) on the endogenous variable chickpea production development (CPD) to restructure policy interventions in India. Results of the measurement model revealed that all the latent variables have construct validity (both convergent validity and discriminant validity) and composite reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that all indicators of both exogenous and endogenous variables are significant. Yield-increasing production technologies (PT), minimum support prices (MSP), and storage structures (SS) and the three exogenous variables (research and extension, marketing, and infrastructure development) are the strongest indicators. For the endogenous variable CPD, remunerative prices (RP) is the strongest indicator and also serves as a driving force for other indicators. The results of the structural model revealed that RE is the most effective construct followed by ID and MA, and they cumulatively explained 89 percent of the total variation in CPD. Among these three constructs, MSP is the key indicator of MA with the highest loading factor (0.799), and hence it should be given the highest priority for promoting CPD in India.

Abstract Background The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) with its high mortality, stigma and panic has compelled many cities and countries to complete lockdown. The worldwide student group is one of the most affected and vulnerable communities in this situation. Our current study aimed to assess the impact of the behavior change communication among international students in China in current COVID-19 crisis. Methods In this paper, we have utilized partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to understand the health behaviour changes of international students in China in response to novel Coronavirus outbreak. We mainly analyzed the relationship among the three selected latent variables (preventive, supportive and awareness building) based on a survey among the international students (n=467) in China in February 2020. We obtained their valuable responses regarding level of awareness, satisfaction and trust in authorities (i.e., government, local authorities and institutions) during this emergency period. Results We utilized 22 indicators in the conceptual framework model with the help of Smart PLS 2.0 version software. The lowest average variance extracted (AVE) for all the constructs of our paper exceeded the minimum accepted value of 0.5, representing the adequate convergent validity. Prediction of students’ satisfaction, the key outcome degree of the model, was nearly moderate, with an R2 = 0.507 whereas the prediction of trust in authorities was above substantial, with an R2 = 0.797. Therefore, our PLS-SEM model showed a strong and significant positive association between preventive and supportive measures taken for the study population and gaining trust, awareness and satisfaction in authorities. Conclusions Integrated partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) can be a great way to measure the satisfaction and trust level of various population groups over government, local authorities, and institutions in public health emergency like COVID-19 crisis. We believe that our findings are important for travel and global health perspectives. Other countries can learn and take necessary initiatives for their international students and general public to halt this deadly epidemic with gaining their satisfaction and trust as well.

In this research, we examined the construct of a school engagement scale using exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM). This study involved a translated measurement model that was originally developed by Li and Lerner for U.S. youth, and data from a sample of eighth-, ninth-, and 11th-grade Chinese adolescents ( N = 364). First, the results indicated that instead of the three factors (cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement) that have been found in previous research on school engagement, four factors emerged for the current sample: school compliance, participation, emotional engagement, and cognitive engagement. Second, the factor structure was gender invariant in the ESEM framework. We further found that female students scored higher than males on school compliance and emotional engagement. Third, the convergent correlations among school engagement subscales and academic performance were in line with theoretical expectations. Finally, based on the differences between this study and previous studies in Western countries, the need for a more thorough investigation in the conceptualization and measurement of school engagement among youth in China was discussed.
