In the flexible stretch bending of multi-point roller dies process, the deformation of workpiece is mainly driven by clamps. Therefore, the movement track of clamp has a great influence on the forming effect of workpiece. Y-profile, T-profile, and L-profile are taken as the research objects. Simulation and experiments are carried out with two different movement tracks. The influence of the movement tracks on shape error, springback error, and thickness variation of different profiles is discussed. The experimental results of the three profiles processed by the double-sided forming method are consistent with the simulation results, which proves the accuracy of the numerical simulation. The results show that the movement track has a great influence on shape error. Compared with double-sided forming, one-sided forming can effectively reduce springback error. The two different movement tracks have no obvious influence on thickness change.

The finite element numerical simulation method was used to study the stretch-bending process of asymmetric L-section aluminum alloy profiles. The geometrical parameters of the multipoint dies (MPDs) are studied to influence the shape accuracy and springback of the L-section profile after bending. The results show that the profile curvature of the MPD after the profile is bent has a great influence on the stress-strain distribution, springback value, and shape accuracy. In order to obtain uniform stress-strain of the profile and reduce the springback and shape error, the MPD is optimized by numerical simulation analysis, which has a certain reference value of providing a theoretical basis for the rational design of the flexible stretch-bending.

The thickness of the heat-affected zone (HAZ) has a great influence on the strength of the welded joint, so one of the important tasks is to control the HAZ to a small enough level, through using the suitable heat-input (qd). In this study, the authors use SYSWELD software to compute and build a relationship between the heat-input and the thickness of the heat-affected zone in the plate thickness direction to find the right heat-input for researched welding joint. The simulation results show that when welding the root pass with qd > 552 J/mm and the cap pass with 754 J/mm < qd < 1066 J/mm, the thickness of HAZ were increased with a function almost linearly.

To improve the effect of multi-point stretch forming of sheet metal, it is proposed in this paper to replace a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head. According to the multi-point dies with different arrangements, this research establishes finite element models of the following stretch forming, i.e., fixed ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with conventional arrangement, swinging ball heads with declining staggered arrangement, and swinging ball heads with parallel staggered arrangement, and then numerical simulation is performed. The simulation results show that by replacing a fixed ball head with a swinging ball head, the surface indentation of the part formed was effectively suppressed, the stress and tension strain distribution of the part formed was improved, and the forming quality was improved; the thickness of the elastic pad was reduced, the springback was reduced and the forming accuracy was improved; and when the ball head was applied to a multi-point die with staggered arrangement, a better forming result was achieved, where the best forming result was achieved in combining the swinging ball heads with the multi-point die with a parallel staggered arrangement. Forming experiments were carried out, and the experimental results were consistent with the trend of numerical simulation results, which verified the correctness of the numerical simulation.

The digital simulation method for NC incremental sectional forming is studied and the forming effect of NC incremental integral forming and sectional forming is analyzed through the digital simulation method in this paper. Digital simulation results show that the proposed simulation method for NC incremental sectional forming is reasonable and achievable. The difference of the forming quality between NC incremental sectional forming and integral forming is small. The sectional forming method has feasibility.

Presented here is the simulation of uniaxial stretch forming using two punches in a sheet metal forming operation. In the finite element modelling, the sheet metal strip was held by two bank holders and two punches are able to move in two directions to stretch the sheet metal. Due to the friction between the punch and sheet metal, it was found that friction affects the sheet metal forming quality, however by adopting an optimal punch path the effect of friction in sheet metal forming can be reduced. The effect of punch paths on the quality of the sheet metal are also reported in this paper.

In general, filling velocity of indirect squeeze casting mainly causes gas wrapping and slag inclusion, and it influences quality of casting parts directly. In this paper, filling velocity was researched on by Procast, moreover, models of casting parts and die were modeled. Furthermore, filling of a kind of panel was simulated, and the simulation results were analyzed. In conclusion, the best filling effect can be gotten, when the velocity v is equal to filling time t. As a result, it could offer better casting parameters for similar casting parts in squeeze casting.

Self-excited vibrations significantly reduce the milling productivity, deteriorate the quality of machined surface and tool life. One of the ways to avoid these vibrations is to modify the cutting parameters based on the stability analysis results. A method of numerical simulation of self-excited vibrations in the time domain can be used for this purpose. A comparison of numerical simulation results with those from experiments conducted using a milling machine is presented. The results confirm the correctness of applied modeling.

The guiding roll is an important part of the ring rolling equipment which plays an important part in stabilizing the rolling and ensuring the quality of product. This paper obtained the formula for instant diameter of ring during the rolling process and established the motion equation of guiding roll. The angular velocity, instant displacements in X and Y direction of guiding roll center were calculated by MATLAB software. The numerical simulation of ring rolling of ring with rectangular cross sections was completed under the ABAQUS/Explicit environment after importing the instant displacement of guiding roll center. The simulation results indicate that the guiding roll could be controlled accurately by the proper method. These research conclusions can provide scientific basis for ensuring the quality of product and accurately controlling the movement of guiding roll during the ring rolling.

Milling of titanium alloy is usually a finishing process, therefore stable cutting process must be guaranteed at first. Temperature distributions were studied in this paper with the help of finite element method (FEM) for its significant influence on the quality of machined part. In this paper, numerical simulation was conducted by using FEM software on the whole cutting process for TC4 alloy mounting parts in an effort to investigate the metal flow behavior. The thermal simulation results obtained were compared with the cutting temperature.

Aiming at the flexible 3D stretch bending with multipoint dies for the aluminum profile, the numerical simulation analysis of the bending process was carried out by ABAQUS finite element software. In the multipoint stretch bending (MPSB) process, the influence of the number of die units on the springback for the complex section profile was studied. The shape error between the forming parts and the target parts was reduced through the method of die surface modification. The results showed that the springback of the aluminum profile could reach a minimum when the number of die units was 25 under the precondition of saving cost and ensuring the quality of forming parts. In the numerical simulation, the maximum shape error of the forming parts reduced from 18.824 mm to 2.456 mm; in the test, the maximum shape error reduced from 27.26 mm to 6.03 mm through the method of die surface modification.
