Feminism & Psychology ( F&P) was launched in 1991 with a sense of possibility, enthusiasm and excitement as well as a sense of urgent need – to critique and reconstruct mainstream psychology (theory, research methods, and clinical practice). Thirty years have now passed since the first issue was produced. Thirty volumes with three or four issues have been published each year, thanks to the efforts of many. On the occasion of F&P’s 30th anniversary, we, the present and past editors, reflect on successes, changes and challenges in relation to the journal. We celebrate the prestigious awards accruing to the journal, its editors, and authors, and the significant contributions the journal has made to critical feminist scholarship at the interface of feminisms and psychologies. We note some of the theoretical and methodological developments and social changes witnessed over the last three decades. We highlight challenges facing feminist researchers in academia as well as international feminist publishing. We conclude that the initial enthusiasm and excitement expressed by the then editorial collective was justified. But, there is still much work to be done.

This paper presents a brief overview of some of the major issues associated with research design in experimental gerontology. The intention is not to provide a comprehensive and detailed guide to experimental design and research methods. Rather, the paper focuses on a more general discussion of several issues associated with the design, implementation, and interpretation of research in an attempt to illustrate why a rudimentary knowledge of these topics is essential for all researchers and practitioners involved in the study of the aging process. Wherever possible, specific examples from the exercise science and applied health literature are selected in order to illustrate the significance of these factors for our field of expertise.

In clinical practice, a sufficiently large number of patients complain of neurological disorders caused by osteochondrosis of the cervical spine. Despite this, in some cases, the development and progression of this symptomatology may be due to an anomaly in the structure of the cervical spine (Klippel-Feil syndrome), which is genetically determined. Timely diagnosis of this pathology with the implementation of complex research methods allows you to develop individual tactics for each individual patient, taking into account the severity of clinical manifestations to slow the progression of complications.

As nurses begin to incorporate genetic and genomic sciences into clinical practice, education, and research, it is essential that they have a working knowledge of the terms foundational to the science. The first article in this primer series provided brief definitions of the basic terms (e.g., genetics and genomics) and introduced the concept of phenotype during the discussion of Mendelian inheritance. These terms, however, are inconsistently used in publications and conversations, and the linkage between genotype and phenotype requires clarification. The goal of this fifth article in the series is to elucidate these terms, provide an overview of the research methods used to determine genotype–phenotype associations, and discuss their significance to nursing through examples from the current nursing literature.

The main purpose of this article is to underline the importance of doing clinical research on long-term, dynamic group psychotherapy as it is carried out in practice (effectiveness study). After a review of the outcome literature, which mainly consists of experimental studies (efficacy studies), an effectiveness study from a private practice will be described with some preliminary results. Experiences from implementation of a research project in clinical practice are presented and the strengths and limitations of the two research methods are discussed.
