Who Cares? Pro-social education within the programmes of the International Baccalaureate

This article is a study of one aspect of the character education offered by schools following the curriculum of the International Baccalaureate – students’ pro-social development. Set against a background in which the development of inter-personal qualities is being marginalised by conservative governments across many national systems of education (Keddie, 2015), the International Baccalaureate seems to defy these trends by continuing to centre attention on the holistic development of personal characteristics, including the cultivation of pro-social behaviour through the learner attribute ‘Caring’. Through a focused analysis of the pro-social curriculum practice enacted by nine case-study international schools following this curriculum across three continents, the article concludes that pro-social behaviour is effectively encouraged by the International Baccalaureate programmes, but that it is a somewhat patrician version of caring that is enacted in many contexts.

In today’s constantly evolving fast-paced world, the field of education has witnessed a variety of innovative and rigorous trends such as life-long learning, technological capabilities, inquiry-based instruction, SDGs lesson plans, global education and international schools. The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into teaching literary works in the IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) through the lens of global issues, a pathway to establish understanding and competencies for students in the coming decades. With that aim in mind, the paper is divided into three main ideas: global trends and issues in general education and teaching literature in particular; opportunities and challenges when teaching literature through the lens of global issues to Vietnamese students in international schools; and a case study of teaching Phan Thi Vang Anh’s short stories in the close relationship with the world problems. The results of this exploratory research will shed light on an innovate approach in literature teaching strategies and assessment techniques in close relationship with world issues and its potential application in an authentic Vietnamese classroom.

The current case study investigates the application of a non-hierarchical leadership model at an urban public research university. Following a review of recent contributions to leadership theory, especially with regard to student development, the authors balance discussions of the values on which the program under review is based with descriptions of the practical structure of the program. In addition, they suggest means by which other campuses can tailor this program to their resources, opportunities, and needs. The case study concludes with a discussion of the program’s effect on students’ cognitive and social development.

This article explores the utility of networked improvement communities (NICs) as an organizing structure for scaling character education across educational leadership programs through a case study of one network committed to integrating character education across varied institutions and contexts. In examining the improvement science process that guided NIC members’ development and implementation of character education approaches and their perceptions of and participation in NIC activities, this case study offers insights on the promise of structured collaboration across diverse institutions. Furthermore, it identifies the need for NICs to differentiate improvement science activities based on participants’ institutional readiness for character education.

The article analyzes the view of a number of Russian scientists (V. A. Slastenin, A. Ya. Savelyev, A. A. Verbitsky etc.) on the problem of pedagogical professionalism as a system of stable personal traits, ensuring high productivity and effciency of work aimed to form individual students competencies. The external and internal factors for the formation of a modern professional teacher are also determined: state and social orders for a competent teacher, an educator, a teacher of a higher institution, their personal characteristics and desire to develop. It is noted that as a result of self-development, teachers realize the needs for the development of such personal qualities and competencies, which guarantee them high results in their professional activities and success in life.

She describes its rapid expansion in North America, where many school systems are attracted by its challenging academic curriculum. Worldwide university recognition of the program is steadily increasing. This research tackles the role of communication in social marketing of child issues in the Sudan, a case study on the ministry of Social Development in Khartoum state. The purpose of this research is to recognize the communication role done by General Administration of  Information and Social Awareness of  the ministry of  Social Development in marketing the programs of social campaigns of the Sudanese child represented in social patronage, sponsorship and supporting and protection, include the specific social, economic and political aspects, as health, education, providing security and settlement. The research tried to answer a number of questions, one of them is a basic question. What is the number and size of information campaigns implemented at the period from August 2019 to August 2020? The researcher used the descriptive methodology besides the methodology of status study. And the researcher depends on questionnaire, the (systemized) interview form, (not systemized) interview form, and the simple observation . Findings: The research concluded to a number of findings, the most important of them are: 1.There is a malfunction in the efficiency of communication with the General Administration of Information and Social Awareness of the ministry.  The cause of this is lack of enough trained information cadre, and lack of enough money be specified to the campaign. 2.The subjects and Programs come within the campaign do not cover all sectors of children but concentrate on the children of hard circumstances. 3.The number of information campaigns implemented at the period from 2019 to 2020 are two: a campaign  on orphanages (Halima Al-Saadaya) and a campaign to patronize the children of streets (who lost the family caring).
