Cooperative Communications in Dynamic Fault Management

The motivation for this research is to further theory on the development of artificial intelligence systems that function as “team players” in dynamic fault management applications. One challenge is effectively supporting the practitioner in understanding the assessments and actions of the intelligent system. The typical expert system approach to explanations is not well suited to the cognitive demands of dynamic fault management. In order to gain insight into effective cooperative interaction in dynamic fault management, we have undertaken a field of study of practitioners in one such domain, anesthesiology. We analyze the findings using the theoretical framework of a common ground and common frame of reference.

The article discusses the history of the development of the problem of using artificial intelligence systems in education and pedagogic. Two directions of its development are shown: “Computational Pedagogic” and “Educational Data Mining”, in which poorly studied aspects of the internal mechanisms of functioning of artificial intelligence systems in this field of activity are revealed. The main task is a problem of interface of a kernel of the system with blocks of pedagogical and thematic databases, as well as with the blocks of pedagogical diagnostics of a student and a teacher. The role of the pedagogical diagnosis as evident reflection of the complex influence of factors and reasons is shown. It provides the intelligent system with operative and reliable information on how various reasons intertwine in the interaction, which of them are dangerous at present, where recession of characteristics of efficiency is planned. All components of the teaching and educational system are subject to diagnosis; without it, it is impossible to own any pedagogical situation optimum. The means in obtaining information about students, as well as the “mechanisms” of work of intelligent systems based on innovative ideas of advanced pedagogical experience in diagnostics of the professionalism of a teacher, are considered. Ways of realization of skill of the teacher on the basis of the ideas developed by the American scientists are shown. Among them, the approaches of researchers D. Rajonz and U. Bronfenbrenner who put at the forefront the teacher’s attitude towards students, their views, intellectual and emotional characteristics are allocated. An assessment of the teacher’s work according to N. Flanders’s system, in the form of the so-called “The Interaction Analysis”, through the mechanism of fixing such elements as: the verbal behavior of the teacher, events at the lesson and their sequence is also proposed. A system for assessing the professionalism of a teacher according to B. O. Smith and M. O. Meux is examined — through the study of the logic of teaching, using logical operations at the lesson. Samples of forms of external communication of the intellectual system with the learning environment are given. It is indicated that the conclusion of the found productive solutions can have the most acceptable and comfortable form both for students and for the teacher in the form of three approaches. The first shows that artificial intelligence in this area can be represented in the form of robotized being in the shape of a person; the second indicates that it is enough to confine oneself only to specially organized input-output systems for targeted transmission of effective methodological recommendations and instructions to both students and teachers; the third demonstrates that life will force one to come up with completely new hybrid forms of interaction between both sides in the form of interactive educational environments, to some extent resembling the educational spaces of virtual reality.

Artificial intelligence systems have been gaining widespread momentum in today’s progressing tech-savvy world. With sophisticated technologies being incorporated in the same, it is only a matter of time these systems start to produce marvelous inventions without human intervention of any kind. This brings forth pertinent questions concerning Intellectual Property Rights, (IPR) for, it challenges not only traditional notions of concepts such as patents and copyrights, but also leads to the emergence of questions related to the regulation of such creations amidst others. This paper seeks to provide insight into the expanding scope of IPR laws and artificial intelligence, along with the inevitable challenges it brings from a worldwide lens on the matter. It also attempts to provide suggestions transcending IPR, and seeks to address questions concerning criminal liability for the content created by such technologies.

In the process of comprehending the prospects for the artificial intelligence development, the authors come to a conclusion that in the scientific learning of the world the problematic issues of the artificial intelligence are connected with problematic issues of recognizing the artificial intelligence systems and ordinary human thinking The article performs an analysis of the concepts of «intelligence» and «artificial intelligence», in the process of which the intelligence is viewed through a systematic approach in its broad sense. The purpose of the article is to present a number of conclusions about the levels of development of scientific studies of the problems under investigation, is there any reason to argue that attempts to implement the epistemological characteristics of thinking in modern artificial intelligence systems have not only been undertaken but also successful, and whether is it possible to talk about full transfer of the intellectual functions to the technical systems, endowing them with epistemological tools (in the context of the discussion about strong and weak versions of the artificial intelligence). The authors study the concept of «phenomenology of intelligence», the perception of intelligence in various historical eras by famous philosophers and scientists of other branches of knowledge; they identify the artificial intelligence as a special branch of science, analyze the existing problems in this field. In writing the article, they use the system approach, the theoretical analysis of and generalization of the scientific information, the historical, predicted, critical and dialectical methods of investigation.

AbstractUnder the Interface Hypothesis, bilinguals’ non-nativelike referential choices may be influenced by the increased cognitive demands and less automatic processing of bilingual production. We test this hypothesis by comparing pronoun production in the L2 of nonbalanced Spanish–English bilinguals to that of English monolinguals in two cognitively challenging contexts. In Experiment 1, both monolinguals and bilinguals produced more explicit references when part of the information was unavailable to their addressee (privileged ground) than when all information was shared (common ground), evidencing audience design. In Experiment 2, verbal load led to more unspecified references than visual load and no load (an effect statistically indistinguishable between groups but numerically driven by the monolingual group). While bilinguals produced overall more pronouns than monolinguals in both experiments, there was no indication that bilinguals’ referential choice was disproportionally affected by increased cognitive demand, contrary to the predictions of the Interface Hypothesis.

The paper reviews the operation of an on-line continuously adaptive PID controller which uses an expert system approach to self-tune. The benefits of using continuously adaptive control have been demonstrated by trial installations and have produced financial returns running into six figure values per annum per loop. Indirect benefits such as better insight into plant controllability (used to indicate a need for plant maintenance) and faster plant startups have been identified by users. The paper stresses the need for experience feedback in developing the understanding of the industry in the correct and best use of this new technology, a technology which promises to become the industry standard. An application guideline is provided and some limitations are pointed out. Some features that help make it a robust and secure product in a process control environment are also indicated.

Digital innovations such as artificial intelligence systems, although limited in their current operational capacity, can be considered to be part of our daily life. Various ways in which these systems are implemented into day-to-day aspects directly affect not only the further development of the industrial sector but the society as a whole. The purpose of this article is to provide a brief insight into the current situation and the various initiatives of the European Union institutions in relation to the methodology for the application of civil liability in the case of damage caused by artificial intelligence systems, as well as to assess the content of future regulatory framework that has been published by the European Parliament, with whom it is intended to establish a common methodology throughout the European Union for the application of civil liability regime, if the damage is caused by artificial intelligence systems.
