Algorithmic thinking is considered as one of the important steps toward learning to code for novices in programming education. In this study, algorithmic thinking was promoted by introducing a Problem Analysis Algorithmic Model (PAAM) in an Algorithms and Programming 1 (AP) course. A web-based application is developed to offer the PAAM model in the course. The application includes all teaching topics taught in the AP course. One-way cluster sampling and quantitative research were used in this research study. The impact of the PAAM model on novices was determined by conducting a survey. t-test was performed to analyze the students’ responses. The final exam grades for the last two semesters were compared to examine the effect of the PAAM model on students’ gain in the AP course. Results show that novice programmers appreciated the PAAM model in the AP course teaching processes and learning activities. The model supports novices to understand the programming question requirements (input, process, and output) and promotes algorithmic thinking. Moreover, the model helps students in learning problem-solving skills, understanding programming concepts and structures. It also focuses on students’ cognitive engagement and gain in programming. The model not only impacts positively on students’ gain but it also helps in reducing the attrition rates (failure and dropout) in the course.

Most novice programmers consider learning to program as a difficult and challenging field of study for them. As a result, high dropout and failure rates in programming one courses reported. One of the reasons is that most programming (1) courses don’t give equal attention to syntax and semantics of programming language and algorithmic thinking. In this study, a web application based on Problem Analysis and Algorithmic Model (PAAM) was prepared and acquainted in the programming (1) course. The application focuses on problem analysis and algorithmic thinking. The influence on genders' opinion after offering the PAAM model in the programming (1) course determined by organizing a survey. The mean values of the male and female survey respondents compared by performing the T-test. The purpose is to determine if there is any significant difference between the mean values. Results show that students appreciated the web application in the programming (1) course. Male students discerned more positive responses in the survey questions compared to female students. The T-test result shows a significant difference between the values of respondents because the p-value for equal variances assumed is (.000), which is less than p = 0.05. The application encourages a new approach based on four steps (problem statement → problem analysis → problem-solving skills → code) for novices. The application helps students to understand programming structures, program design and comprehension.

The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have penetrated all aspects of human life, including education. One of the pandemic consequences is that universities require that lectures be carried out online, where may affect student learning outcomes. This study aimed at determining the impact of online lectures during the Covid-19 pandemic on the professional competence of students as mathematics pre-service teacher at the Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. This was quantitative research. The population were the first semester students in 2020 at the Mathematics Education Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purworejo. The research sample was taken through random cluster sampling, including 30 students from the population. The data were obtained using a professional competency test instrument. The data processing method used one-sample average statistical test by comparing with the professional competency scores of students in 2018. Based on the study results, it was found that there was a significant decrease in the professional competency scores of Mathematics Education students whose lectures were conducted online during the Covid-pandemic 19 compared to the professional competency scores of Mathematics Education students whose lectures were conducted face-to-face.

This paper investigates the impact of the Learning Resource Centre activities of Westminster International University Tashkent (WIUT) graduated students on the labour market outcome. WIUT library provides a learning environment that helps students to create practical teams and individual projects to support the agenda of employability. The study aims to clarify the relationship between library activities and labour market outcomes. This proposes the improvement of a commercial responsiveness workshop, in collaboration with other services, and alumni voices in an employability guide. A quantitative research approach was employed; an online survey questionnaire was distributed to alumni students to obtain the data. It was a semi-structured questionnaire designed using a Likert Scale to collect data from 607 graduates. The study revealed that LRC activities have a significant impact on labour market outcomes for students. LRC activities such as presentation skills, information technology skills, problem-solving skills, research skills were mostly expected in the labour market. Research limitations– The study was focused only on graduates of WIUT, which may limit the generalizability. Therefore, the researcher proposed to study and compare other graduates of universities in Uzbekistan. The insights are valuable for planning the curriculum of LRC activities and developing teaching practices at WIUT. Moreover, current and graduate students can learn market-oriented skills and labour market demands. This is the first-ever study in Uzbekistan that explores the relationship of university library activities on employability skills of alumni.

Much literature has presented evidence that supplemental digital resources enhance student performance with mathematics. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of a web-adaptive digital resource, Think Through Math©, on student performance with state-mandated annual standardized mathematics assessments. This study utilized a quantitative research design and conducted multiple regression analyses among 723 students from a north Texas school district that showed high-levels of use with Think Through Math© during the 2015-2016 school year. Data from Think Through Math© reports and annual standardized mathematics assessments were collected and analyzed from elementary, intermediate, junior high, and high school campus levels. Results of the multiple regression analyses were reported for each campus level, as well as several statistically significant and positive associations.

Database system (DB) is one of the most important courses in computer science and software engineering disciplines. This course demands expertise in problem-analysis and problem-solving skills. Teaching problem-analysis and problem-solving skills is not an easy job. However, visual or mind mapped teaching methods are found effective during teaching such skills. Hence, the objective of this study is to measure the impact of mind mapping, one of the visual, method in teaching and learning DB course. The empirical data are collected by using experimental research approach. Total 68 students of 4th semester participated in the experiment from DB course offered in computer science and software engineering disciplines. All the students were exposed to descriptive teaching method and mind-mapped teaching method on the course topics. Based on the results, the mind-mapped teaching method is found effective in teaching and learning DB course. Additionally, girl students appeared more effective in yielding positive results than boy students during mind mapped taught classes. Finally, apart from fewer limitations, this study recommends certain future guidelines for better understanding and development in the very topic. For instance, age and culture based mind-mapped analysis may be considered for computer science and software engineering major courses as a future research.
