Purpose: This study systematically reviews the China’s progress in lifelong education (LLE) policies, theories, and practices in the 40 years since its reform and opening-up and provides several guidelines for developing LLE going forward. Design/Approach/Methods: This study analyzes the characteristics of LLE in China through a review of its developmental process and prospects at the policy, theoretical, and practical levels. Findings: While following the goals of LLE set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, China has developed and implemented LLE with distinctly Chinese characteristics. The development of LLE in China has focused on protecting citizens’ learning rights, improving civic literacy, and enhancing human resources. This study reveals four aspects of China’s experiences of LLE development. First, as the primary actor in promoting LLE, the government took responsibility for providing guidance and leadership in the development and implementation of LLE. Second, the people’s enthusiastic response to and expectation of the further enhancement of their spiritual cultivation and quality of life established LLE’s practical status. Third, the socioeconomic and political context consolidated the value foundation of LLE development. Fourth, the positive responses of the academic community and follow-up studies promoted policy-oriented processes and practice-based scientific development. Originality/Value: In addition to suggestions for the creation of an LLE system with Chinese characteristics, this study reveals several core theoretical topics of LLE development in China that warrant further research.

Background: For accelerating its progress towards FP2020 goals, the Government of India has focused on improving the quality of intrauterine device (IUD) services. EngenderHealth has supported the Governments of Rajasthan and Gujarat since 2014 through its Expanding Access to IUD Services in India (EAISI) project by building the capacity of service providers, monitoring their compliance with standard practices, and strengthening health systems. This study sought to assess whether EAISI trained providers provide a better quality of IUD services as compared to non-EAISI trained providers, as indicated by a reduction in confirmed IUD complications? Methods: This study was an analytical cross-sectional study of secondary data collected from the follow-up registers of 176 intervention facilities (138 in Rajasthan and 38 in Gujarat) during Phase I of EAISI project. The analysis included clients who returned between April 2018 and March 2019 to the same facility for a follow-up visit. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to determine factors associated with IUD complications. Results: A total of 56,733 IUD insertions were conducted, and 10,747 (18.9%) client follow-ups were documented. Of these, 49.4% (N=5,305) clients received IUDs from EAISI-trained providers, while 50.6% (N=5,442) received IUDs from non-EAISI trained providers. A total of 4.0% (N=432) of clients experienced complications (Expulsion: 1.3%, Missing Strings: 1.7%, Infection: 1.1%). Clients who received IUDs from non-EAISI-trained providers were 55.5% more likely [95% CI (26.2%, 91.5%), p<0.0005] to have complications compared to clients who received insertions from EAISI-trained providers. Other significant factors include the type of IUD, timing of the follow-up visit and timing of the insertion. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that intensive, hands-on training of providers to improve clinical skills for IUD insertions can have a positive impact on the reduction of post-insertion complications.

Abstract Apart from educating students and conducting scientific research, technology transfer (TT) is the third “mission pillar” of modern universities. TT from universities to business as a source of innovations and inventions is, on the one hand, an important factor in socio-economic development, on the other hand, it generates income for universities and, by creating links with market practice, also affects their scientific development and quality of teaching. However, due to its complexity and due to the pluralism and heterogeneity of the approaches involved in TT processes at a country (or even regional) level, participation is a difficult challenge for the academic community. In the article the main factors influencing TT between universities and business are identified and a relevant process emphasizing into the requirements of universities being freshmen in this field is presented. In the frame of the current work a two-fold approach was applied: (a) a literature collection and review were undertaken aiming at identifying TT-related methods, tools, procedures and best practices across universities at an international level and (b) an detailed analysis of the TT-related procedures at the four European universities participating in the study.

Abstract Background: Emergency department (ED)-initiated medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) have emerged as an effective strategy against the opioid epidemic. Opioid use disorder (OUD) patients engaged in ED-initiated MOUD programs have higher retention in treatment programs and improved outcomes with regard to overdose rates and mortality. It is unclear however, how engagement in ED-initiated MOUD programs might affect quality of life (QoL). We sought to describe demographic characteristics and QoL factors reported by patients engaged in ED-initiated MOUD and referral services. Methods: An ED MOUD-initiation program was launched in July 2019, with subsequent referral to definitive services. Enrolled patients were interviewed at intake, 3-months, and 6-months to ascertain QoL indices via the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) measures. Descriptive statistics and Fisher’s Exact were utilized to assess the data. Results: Through 12/2020, 89 participants were enrolled. The majority were white (85.4%), male (61.8%), and between the ages of 25-44 (75.3%). To-date, 31 participants (43.7% eligible) have completed 3-month follow-up and 28 (45.2% eligible) have competed 6-month follow-up. With regards to assessed QoL factors, over half demonstrated significant improvement, including 5 of 7 psychosocial factors, to include satisfaction with personal relationships, QoL self-rating, satisfaction with personal health, energy for everyday life, and satisfaction with self (p <.05). Financial needs met was the only objective QoL factor to demonstrate significant improvement during the follow-up time period. While not significant, homelessness also decreased, specifically 14 (15.7%) identified as homeless at intake as compared to one (3.7%) at 6-month follow-up. Additional trends toward decreased violence exposure and increased employment rates were also noted. Conclusions: In addition to decreasing illicit opioid drug use, maintenance of ED-initiated MOUD may positively impact broad QoL measures.

Abstract   RPTRA is a community established by the DKI Jakarta government in order to improve the quality of life of its citizens, which in this case is specifically to support the growth and development of children, the comfort of parents and the comfort of its citizens in interacting. Children's growth and development is a mandatory thing that must be considered by parents, therefore the role of parents in providing care is important. In providing care, parents must have good care and observation of their children. If parents pay less attention and care to their children, it is feared that children will have difficulty in completing their developmental tasks. At this community service activity, the implementing team will provide material presentations about care and attention that will be conveyed through the lecture method. The results show that there are many variants of answers from the participants regarding parenting, the participants also better understand how to be parents who care and pay attention to their children. This activity still has limitations in the form of small stimuli, because the material provided is still only providing additional knowledge to parents. Follow-up activities are still needed so that parents can also apply knowledge effectively to their children. Then for the government, especially the RPTRA administrators, it is hoped that they can hold programs that can increase the bond between parents and children. Introduction: Schizophrenia is one of the most relevant mental disorders in public health, causing great distress for the patient and his/her family members. The persistence of symptoms characterizes refractoriness of the disease that is treated with clozapine considered the gold standard in treatment, but its adverse reactions can be as intense as the symptoms of the disorder. Objective: To develop a pharmacotherapeutic follow-up form for caregivers of adult patients with schizophrenia would refract from the use of clozapine. Methods: The search for the articles was carried out in the government databases and websites from November 15, 2018 to January 15, 2019, published from 2012. Result: Thirty-seven articles were found, excluding 20 articles, including in this review 17 articles, 2 books, 4 clinical protocols and 1 drug monograph. Conclusion: The proposal to develop the pharmacotherapeutic follow-up form is to identify adverse reactions that may influence the treatment of pharmacological treatment and reduce the unwanted effects of treatment as a consequence to improve the patient's quality of life.

Curriculum development and legislation are often viewed as parallel issues that do not affect each other; however, it cannot be denied that without a sound legislation or statute development, curriculum development will become stagnant and wither, eventually resulting in the deteriorated quality of manpower and economy alike. Legal financial education in Turkey is relatively new and the country and its academicians as well as legislators need to learn a lot from its peers around the world. Through this chapter, an attempt is made to sensitize the academic community, educational planners, and also the government to the need for developing awareness and knowledge of financial legislations in the phase of sweeping changes that the financial markets are undergoing in the post-crisis period.
