Aim: To investigate push-out bond strength (PBS) of fiber post to radicular dentin after using different cementation techniques. Material and methods: Sixty single-rooted premolars were disinfected and cleaned by mechanical instrumentation. S1, S2, and SX were used for canal shaping and finishing of the canal was carried out using F1 and F2. This was followed by constant irrigation and smear layer removal using 17%EDTA. The canal was dried filled with gutta-percha and canal space was prepared using a peso reamer. Based on cementation techniques, samples were randomly allocated into six groups. Group 1: One-step Monoblock MC; Group 2: One-step, Monoblock MC-NA (no adhesive) GFP; Group 3: One-step, RX-MC-Monoblock; Group 4: Two-step, RX-MC; Group 5: Two-step, RX-FZ; and Group 6: Two-step RX-FZ-custom post. All specimens were mounted in polyvinyl pipes using acrylic resin up to cement enamel junction. All specimens were mounted in a universal testing machine subjected to push-out forces at a speed of 0.5 mm/min. Five samples from each group were sputter-coated with 6 nm gold thickness for 300 s at 250 mA. The coated specimens were assessed under the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey Kramer multiple comparisons tests were performed to compare means among groups maintaining the level of significance at ( p < 0.001). Results: The highest PBS was displayed in RX-MC-Monoblock (199.020 ± 21.432 MPa). Whereas, lowest PBS was found in Monoblock MC-NA (no adhesive)-GFP (76.440 ± 9.468 MPa). Among one-step groups, RX-MC Monoblock exhibited the highest PBS (199.020 ± 21.432 MPa) comparable to one-step Monoblock MC (134.28 ± 19.37 MPa) ( p > 0.05). Similarly, among two-steps groups, two-step RX-MC demonstrated significantly higher PBS values than two-step RX-FZ (143.340 ± 23.68 MPa) and RX-FZ-custom post (86.90 ± 7.41 MPa) ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: One-step RX-MC-Monoblock technique using self-adhesive cement and core foundation composite resin material multicore flow when cured simultaneously exhibited the highest bond integrity of post retention compared to other cementation technique.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of obturation technique and cementation timings on the bonding of fibre-reinforced posts to the root canal walls. METHODS: Twenty extracted teeth were randomly allocated to two groups according to the obturation technique and cementation timing. Central incisors with single canals were used after being decoronated. Every extracted tooth of the {vertical compaction group} (VC) group (n = 10) had been obturated using the {E & Q plus obturation system} with posts cemented in the same day; The other (CO) conventional group (n = 10) teeth were obturated using the conventional lateral compaction technique and posts cemented after one week. “SF“ Fiber posts were used after bonding and cementation using Rely X ARC resin cement with all the endodontically treated teeth. The push-out test was performed in a universal testing machine. Data were analysed by 2 way analysis of variance with Statistical significance was set to 0.05. RESULTS: Heat softened gutta percha group showed more push out the bond strength of the bonded posts than the conventional obturation group (p < 0.05). In the middle region, there was no statistical significance between the two groups while there was significance in the coronal and apical thirds. CONCLUSION: The vertical compaction technique and early cementation improved the bond strength of the resin posts in comparison to the conventional obturation technique with late cementation.

ABSTRACT Objective: This in vitro study was designed to assess shear bond strength (SBS) of ormocer flowable (OF) resin as a luting agent, ormocer as an indirect veneer material with portrayal of modes of failures using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Materials and Methods: Sixty maxillary central incisors were divided into Group I, II, and III with 20 samples each based on luting cement used. They were OF, self-adhesive (SA) cement, and total etch (TE) cement. These groups were subdivided into “a” and “b” of ten each based on the type of veneering materials used. Veneer discs were fabricated using Ormocer restorative (O) and pressable ceramic (C). Specimens were thermocycled and loaded under universal testing machine for SBS. The statistical analysis was done using one-way ANOVA post hoc Tukey honest significant difference method. Results: A significant difference was observed between the Groups I and II (P < 0.05). The highest mean bond strength when using ormocer veneer was obtained with the Group Ia (19.11 ± 1.92 Mpa) and lowest by Group IIa (8.1 ± 1.04 Mpa), whereas the highest mean bond strength while using ceramic veneer was of similar range for Group Ib (18.04 ± 4.08 Mpa) and Group IIIb (18.07 ± 1.40 Mpa). SEM analysis revealed OF and TE presented mixed type of failure when compared with SA where failure mode was totally adhesive. Conclusion: OF was found equally efficient like TE. Bond strength of ormocer as a veneer was not inferior to ceramic making it one of the promising additions in the field of dentistry.

Introduction. This in-vitro study aims to evaluate the effect of acidic environment and intracanal medicament on push out bond strength of Biodentine and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Plus (MTA Plus) Method. Forty extracted single rooted teeth were sectioned below the cement-enamel junction. The root canals were instrumented using rotary files and then peeso reamer was used to obtain standardized root canal dimension. Specimens were randomly classified into following groups- Group 1: calcium hydroxide in the absence of acidic environment; Group 2: calcium hydroxide in the presence of acidic environment; Group 3: no intracanal medicament in the absence of acidic environment; Group 4: no intracanal medicament in the presence of acidic environment. Specimens were kept for 7 days at room temperature. Thereafter, specimens of each group were transversely sectioned into 1 mm thick slices and divided into 2 sub-groups according to the use of biodentine and MTA Plus. Using Universal Testing Machine, push out bond strength test was carried out and the data were analyzed statistically. Results. There was no statistically significant difference  in the bond strength of biodentine and MTA Plus (P>0.05). For both MTA Plus and biodentine, with or without calcium hydroxide, the push out bond strength was less in acidic environment and this difference was more pronounced without calcium hydroxide. In all the four groups, MTA plus showed comparable bond strength to biodentine. Conclusion. MTA Plus is a viable option for apexification. The push out bond strength of Biodentine and MTA Plus is impaired by acidic environment. Prior application of calcium hydroxide slightly increased the bond strength, though the difference was statistically  insignificant.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to assess dentin shear bond strength (SBS) and mode of bond failure of bioactive cement (BA) in comparison to conventional resin cement when photosensitized by Er,Cr:YSGG Laser (ECL). Methods: The present in-vitro study was carried out from March 2019 to May 2019. Sixty permanent non-carious, intact, non-fractured molars were isolated and mounted vertically in acrylic resin. Buccal surface of each molar tooth was ground, polished and surface treated with ECL. Ketac conditioner was applied on the surface washed and air dried surface. Tetric -N-Bond adhesive was applied on forty-five samples and light cured. The specimens were allocated into four groups (n=15) according to the type of cement used i.e., Calibra (C), BA, Variolink II (V) and Maxcem-Elite (ME). For SBS testing was performed using the universal testing machine. Eight samples from each group were assessed for modes of failure. Means and standard deviations were compared using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post hoc test at a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The highest mean SBS was observed in group ECL-C (21.55±3.08). The lowest mean SBS was displayed in group ECL-ME (14.25±3.55). Mean SBS values for group ECL-C (21.55±3.08) and group ECL-V (20.74±4.15) were comparable (p <0.05). Similarly, SBS values of group ECL-BA (15.48±3.62) and group ECL-ME (14.25±3.55) were comparable (p <0.05). Background. In recent years, fibre-reinforced composite posts have been proposed for the restoration of root filled teeth as an alternative to pre-fabricated posts or metal dowels.Aims and objectives. The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of endodontic irrigants used for removal of calcium hydroxide on the push-out bond strength of fiber posts to root canal dentin.Methods. Forty human permanent single-rooted mandibular premolars with relatively straight roots were taken and access cavities were prepared and biomechanical preparation done using Rotar Y protaper file till size F2. The samples were divided into Experimental group and Control group. In Experimental groups Intracanal dressing of calcium hydroxide was removed by 2.5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA (Group1), MTAD (Group II) and Qmix (Group III). Control group did not receive Intracanal calcium hydroxide dressing. Canals were obturated using size F2 protaper gutta-percha points and AH plus sealer. After storage for 24 hours, post space was prepared. Forty Tenax fiber post (Coltene) were cemented with Rely X U200 resin. The roots were then transversally sectioned into 3 slices of 1mm thickness corresponding to cervical, middle and apical third. The slices obtained were subjected to micro-push-out bond strength test using a universal testing machine. The data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis using One-Way ANOVA test. P value of .05 was considered as statistically significant level.Results. The mean push-out bond strength values for controls, NaOCl/EDTA, MTAD and QMIX group at cervical third were 10.17, 15.84, 20.39 and 20.98 whereas at apical third 4.78, 8.85, 11.66 and 12.10.Conclusion. Qmix showed higher push-out bond strength values followed by MTAD and NaOCl/EDTA. All the groups showed lowest push-out bond strength values in the apical third followed by middle and the maximum in the cervical region.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of Photo-Activated Disinfection (PAD) system to dentin with different root canal sealers by using a push-out test design. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 extracted mandibular premolar teeth with single and straight roots were used. The crowns were removed and the root canals were prepared by using ProTaper rotary files. The smear layer was removed and the roots were randomly divided into two groups (n = 15) according to the use of PAD system as the final disinfecting agent. Each group was then divided into 6 (n = 5) subgroups and obturated with gutta-percha and 3 different root canal sealers. The groups were Group 1: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) + ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-AH Plus sealer; Group 2: NaOCl + EDTA + PAD-AH Plus; Group 3: NaOCl + EDTA-Sealapex; Group 4: NaOCl + EDTA + PAD-Sealapex; Group 5: NaOCl + EDTA-mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-Fiallapex; and Group 6: NaOCl + EDTA + PAD-MTA-Fillapex. 1-mm thickness horizontal sections (n: 5 × 4 = 20) were sliced for the push-out bond strength measurement. Results: Group 3 and 4 showed significantly lower bond strengths compared with all the other groups (P < 0.05). No statistically significant difference was found among Groups 1, 2 and 5, but there was statistically significant difference between Group 5 and 6 (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This in vitro study indicated that the PAD system adversely affected the bond strength of the MTA Fillapex root canal sealer.

Aim: This in vitro study was aimed to evaluate the effect of adding different concentrations of chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) and TiO2 NPs on the shear bond strength (SBS) of an orthodontic adhesive. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 72 extracted human premolars were embedded in an acrylic resin and randomly allocated into four groups of 18 specimens. In group 1 (control), brackets were bonded to the tooth with the Transbond XT orthodontic adhesive. In groups 2, 3, and 4, 0.5% chitosan NPs and 0.5% TiO2 NPs, 1% chitosan NPs and 1% TiO2 NPs, and 1.5% chitosan NPs and 1.5% TiO2 NPs were added to Transbond XT, respectively. Then, the brackets were bonded by the modified adhesive. The SBS and adhesive remnant index (ARI) of each group were assessed with a universal testing machine. The SBS test results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance followed by the posthoc Tukey’s honestly significant difference (HSD) test. The Kruskal–Wallis test was also applied to evaluate the ARI scores. Results: The results showed no statistically significant difference between groups 1, 2, and 3, but SBS decreased significantly in group 4. With increasing the concentration of NPs up to 1% chitosan NPs and 1% TiO2 NPs, SBS did not change significantly. However, in 1.5% chitosan NPs and 1.5% TiO2 NPs, SBS decreased compared to the other three groups. No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of ARI scores. Conclusion: It is concluded that the orthodontic composite containing 1% chitosan NPs and 1% TiO2 NPs has adequate SBS for use in the clinical setting.

Thermal and self-curing acrylic resins are frequently and versatilely used in dental medicine since they are biocompatible, have no flavor or odor, have satisfactory thermal qualities and polishing capacity, and are easy and fast. Thus, given their widespread use, their fracture resistance behavior is especially important. In this research work, we comparatively analyzed the fracture resistance capacity of thermo and self-curing acrylic resins in vitro. Materials and Methods: Five prosthesis bases were created for each of the following acrylic resins: Lucitone®, ProBase®, and Megacryl®, which were submitted to different forces through the use of the CS® Dental Testing Machine, usually mobilized in the context of fatigue tests. To this end, a point was defined in the center of the anterior edge of the aforementioned acrylic resin bases, for which the peak tended until a fracture occurred. Thermosetting resins were, on average, more resistant to fracture than self-curable resins, although the difference was not statistically significant. The thermosetting resins of the Lucitone® and Probase® brands demonstrated behavior that was more resistant to fracture than the self-curing homologues, although the difference was not statistically significant. Thermosetting resins tended to be, on average, more resistant to fracture and exhibited the maximum values for impact strength, compressive strength, tensile strength, hardness, and dimensional accuracy than self-curing resins, regardless of brand.

To evaluate the bond strength of different universal adhesives on deciduous tooth dentineand their relationship with the composition and potential of hydrogen (pH). Methods: An in vitromicro push-out test on 150 samples (n = 50) per group per adhesive, namely, Adhese Universal(ADH; Ivoclar Vivadent), Futurabond U (FUT; Voco GmbH) (Test), and Scotchbond Universal withpre-conditioning (SCO; 3M) (Control), to record bond strength (BS) and type of adhesive failure.Results: The results of the different adhesives (megapascals (MPa)) varied, showing no statisticalsignificance. The corresponding averages are in MPa: ADH, 13.66 2.81; FUT, 14.48 2.88; SCO,14.98 3.96. Additionally, the frequency of type of failure was as follows: mixed (60.7%), adhesive(27.3%), and cohesive (12%). Conclusions: SCO, with a pH of 2.7, showed greater resistance tofracture, while FUT, with a pH of 2.3 and no pre-conditioning, approached the same values, being aone-step adhesive. No relationship was found between failure and type of adhesive.
