Profile of Students’ Understanding about Set Based on Difference of Mathematical Ability Using APOS TheoryAbstractResearch conducted by PISA shows that understanding students' concepts is still low, especially in set material which is the basic science of all branches of mathematics. The purpose of this research is to describe the profile of understanding set by students based on the difference of mathematical abilities in terms of APOS theory. The subjects consisted of 3 eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Ngablak Magelang with high, medium, and low in mathematical ability. The researcher as the main instrument is assisted with test questions and interview guidelines. The results obtained a student with high mathematical abilities is at the trans’s scheme level, because she can carry out actions, processes, objects, and schemes. The Student with medium mathematical abilities is at the inter’s scheme level because he can carry out actions and processes but has not been able to connect objects with schemes. The student with low mathematical abilities is at an inter’s scheme level because he can take action but has difficulty in the process so that he cannot build an object. The difference in the level of students' mathematical abilities is equal to the difference in the understanding ability of the set.

Abstract: This research was aimed to describing the mistakes made by the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Tiris in Probolinggo district in solving the story problems related to the Pythagorean Theorem. Three subjects were selected to solve the story problem of the Pythagorean Theorem then interviewed. The analysis used was based on conceptual error, procedural and calculation. The results showed that in the conceptual stage the subject made a mistake in drawing a right triangle and determining the sloping side. Procedural errors are made, namely the subject makes a withdrawal of the root in the right segment even though in the left side is still a square. While at the calculation stage the subject made a mistake in determining the results of the square root and the difference so that it was wrong in the final result.

This study aims to determine the effect of cooperative learning models and studentlearning styles on the results of learning Social Sciences. Conventional learning models thatrely on reading books, multiplying practice exercises, teacher explanations in the classroom, students are expected to be more diligent in practicing questions suspected of influencingsocial studies learning outcomes. Conventional models are considered to be less than optimal, because basically students will easily feel bored because they have to open sheets per sheetby understanding the contents of the book and listening to the teacher's explanation in frontof the class verbally. This study uses an experimental comparison method containing activities planned and carriedout by researchers, 2x2 factorial design in this study to find out whether there are differencesin social studies learning outcomes between students who obtain learning with cooperativelearning models and students who obtain conventional learning. The population in this studywere all eighth grade students of Al-Kamil Middle School Islamic Boarding School in CianjurRegency, West Java. Affordable population there are eighth grade students of Al-KamilMiddle School Islamic Boarding School District. Cianjur numbered 120 students. The resultsof this study indicate that there is an interaction effect between learning models and learningstyles on the results of social studies learning at Al-Kamil Middle School Islamic BoardingSchool. Learning outcomes of students who have independent learning styles and followcooperative learning models are higher than students' learning outcomes that followconventional learning models. Likewise the learning outcomes of students who havedependent learning styles and follow cooperative learning models are higher than students'learning outcomes that follow conventional learning models
