Abstract Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta(OI)is a chronic, non-infectious disease that accompanies the patient for life. OI will result in reduced bone mass, fractures, thereby leading to bone deformities and reduced patient the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). With the endocrine therapy and surgical orthopedic had been recommended, the disease was effectively controlled. The disease status is discrepancy in different regions. This study aims to assess the diagnosis and treatment status, evaluate the HRQoL of children and adolescents with OI in southwest China, and analyze the influencing factors, so as to provide reference for health care consideration for OI population in southwest China. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed using the Pediatric Quality of Life InventoryTM (PedsQL TM) to assess the HRQoL of children and adolescents with OI. The demographic and clinical data were collected. This study was conducted in Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the National Children's Regional Medical Centre (SOUTH-WEST) and the National Clinical Research for child health. Healthy children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years lived in southwest China as a reference. Results: A total of 27 children and adolescents with OI were included in this study. The current status of diagnosis and treatment such as the treatment, education, family, BMI, pain, steep walking and friends and so on had been investigated. The PedsQLTM of OI population was lower in all dimensions, and they were significantly different in physiological and social functioning and the total score, compared with 54 healthy children and adolescents. Factors associated with HRQoL of OI patients were the steep walking and fixing a playmate at less. Conclusions: The HRQoL of children and adolescents with OI had been improved with the endocrine therapy and surgical orthopedic. But there was an imbalance around the world for the less effective management. Health care education should be more professional, effectively and continuously. Training patients to gain steep walking ability and peer companionship could be a way to improve the HRQoL of children and adolescents with OI in southwest China. The medical staff also should pay attention to their life and growth after discharge.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (TIDM) in Montenegro compared with healthy controls and to estimate the effect of metabolic control on perceptions of HRQOL.This study involved children and adolescents with T1DM, age- and gender-matched healthy children and their parents. Children and adolescents with T1DM and their parents completed Peds QL 4.0 Generic Core Scales (GCS) and PedsQL 3.0 Diabetes Module. Healthy children and their parents completed self- and proxy-report of Peds QL 4.0 GCS.Our study (self- and proxy-report) showed that children and adolescents with T1DM had lower HRQOL on domain “Psychosocial health” and “School functioning” compared with healthy population (p=0.008; p≤0.001). Lower glycosylated hemoglobin (HbACompared with the healthy children, the HRQOL was lower among children and adolescents with T1DM. Lower HbA

The conceptual framework of quality of life (QOL) have received considerable attention within students with visual impairment. The main purpose of this study was to analyse the QOL of children and adolescents with low vision and blindness. Data were collected from 18 children and adolescents, and respective parents ( n = 18). QOL was assessed by the KIDSCREEN 52 questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha and correlations were calculated to examine the psychometric properties of the scale in the visual impairment field. The scale showed suitable internal consistency and construct validity. The findings highlighted that the mean scores were higher in participants with low vision, in male group, and in children. Furthermore, children and adolescents reported higher scores regarding their QOL than their parents. The results emphasized the importance of collecting information from the person about his or her own life to know the personal outcomes, as well as the perception of their parents.

Abstract In Latvia, no studies on the quality of life (QoL) of healthy children have been conducted. Determining the quality of life of children is an essential part of evaluating the health status of children. The subjective assessment of the individuals about their quality of life provides an opportunity to evaluate the quality of life of the population in the public health sector. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the quality of life of healthy children and adolescents in Latvia in the age group from 8 to 18, as well as to compare the answers between children and their parents living in Latvia. This study also gave an opportunity to compare the results of children and their parents living in Europe. Quality of life measurements were obtained using the KIDSCREEN-52 questionnaire, which was filled out by 100 healthy children/adolescents and 100 of their parents/guardians. The quality-of-life questionnaire consisted of ten dimensions. When evaluating the quality of life of children and adolescents by gender, no statistically significant difference was found in Latvia (p > 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) between children of 8 to 11 years of age and children of 12 to 18 years of age. A statistically significant difference was found between the 8 to 11 and 12 to 18-year-old groups of young healthy children in some dimensions. In the response dimensions, self-perception (“SEL”) and emotions (“EMO”), their QoL was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the age group from 12 to 18 years healthy children than in the age group of 8 to 11 years. Differences in child/adolescent quality of life results between Latvia and Europe were not statistically significantly different in all 10 HRQoL dimensions (p > 0.05).

Introduction/Objective. Strict gluten-free diet for life is the only treatment for patients with coeliac disease. Limited selection of food options can affect their quality of life and cause problems in acceptance by their peers. The aim was to examine the subjective quality of life experience in children and adolescents with coeliac disease and to obtain a comprehensive representation of physical and mental impairments and social functioning compared to their healthy peers. Methods. The study was conducted as a cross-sectional study. It included 116 respondents aged 5?18 years with coeliac disease and 116 healthy children of similar age and sex. A Serbian version of Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) was used to measure the quality of life in children. Descriptive statistics were calculated to analyze all results, while t-test was used to compare them. Results. The mean value of total PedsQL score was lower in the coeliac disease patients (75.89 ? 20.35) than in the controls (86.35 ? 11.13). Additionally, the experimental group reported lower all PedsQL Scale scores than the control group in the domains of psychosocial, school, social, and emotional functioning. However, there was no statistically significant difference on the physical health scale. These results were the same in all age groups among both males and females. Conclusions. The disturbance of health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with coeliac disease is significant and the quality of life is lower if compared to their healthy peers.

Tinnitus is a common otologic symptom and probably the most troublesome. Tinnitus causes a number of physical and psychological consequences, that interfere with the quality of life of the patient. Many authors believe that the presence of tinnitus in children is a matter of lesser importance than in adults because it is met less frequently and would be a fleeting symptom, inoffensive for them (Graham, 1981). In addition, the prevalence of tinnitus during adolescence and even in young adults is increasing, possibly as a consequence of the increased ambient noise (Bulbul SF, Shargorodsky J). Various therapeutic approaches have generated different results, which led us to consider the role of psychological factors, hence the need to underline the particularities of this symptom in childhood.
