The widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is currently a recognized trend. UAVs find their application in various sectors of the economy. In the chapter, based on extensive literature analysis, the possibilities of using UAVs for non-military applications are considered. The design features of various UAVs, their control features, energy requirements, and safety-related problems are considered. Particular attention is paid to public opinion related to the use of UAVs. The possibilities of using UAVs in power engineering, agriculture, for controlling traffic, for goods transporting, for controlling the means of railway transport, for first aid to people under various extreme conditions, as well as for some other applications are being explored. The UAV parameters are analyzed, which must be provided for their use in each specific case, while ensuring the minimization of the necessary financial resources.

This paper provides a brief overview on the recent advances of small-scale unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the perspective of platforms, key elements, and scientific research. The survey starts with an introduction of the recent advances of small-scale UAV platforms, based on the information summarized from 132 models available worldwide. Next, the evolvement of the key elements, including onboard processing units, navigation sensors, mission-oriented sensors, communication modules, and ground control station, is presented and analyzed. Third, achievements of small-scale UAV research, particularly on platform design and construction, dynamics modeling, and flight control, are introduced. Finally, the future of small-scale UAVs' research, civil applications, and military applications are forecasted.

There is an overall lack of multipurpose aerial drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), around the world; and until recently, there was a lack of any feasible purposes for drones outside of military applications and those available in market has a very high cost associated with it. Drone technology has advanced to the point in which portable devices are now economically priced enough for civilians to afford as well as easy enough to use with little to no training; however, the main draw back with drones even today is the lack of flexibility n purposes. Most civilian drones are marketed for surveillance purposes only, making the purchaser the one responsible for the labor and economics of any type of design changes to allow for different or more functions. The problem then evolves itself to how to make an economical UAV that can be used for more than one purpose.

This paper looks into conceptualization, implementation and validation of the potential role that hybrid quad tilt rotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) may undertake in the near future, especially so in military applications. A tilt rotor is designed, built and analyzed with wind tunnel data, theoretical calculations and flight log data. In addition, the paper will discuss the flight mechanics involved during its transition from hover to forward flight. As the tandem wing tilt rotor encompasses two unconventional designs, numerous mathematical models were developed in the design of the UAV.

The latest decade witness an unprecedented development of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), as well as for the infrastructure necessary to integrate these items into the societal life. There are several millions of UAVs ranging from large size for military applications, to small dimensions used for commercial purpose and all of them are waiting for the moment when our society would be able to integrate them in a controlled manner in our life. This chapter presents several possible technologies to unique identify the UAVs and thus to create the proper environment for proper register and monitor them.

The applications of unmanned aerial vehicles have been extended through the recent decades and they are utilized for both civil and military applications. The urge to utilize unmanned aerial vehicles for civil purposes has elevated researchers and industries interest towards the mini unmanned aerial vehicle (MUAV) category due to its suitable configurations and capabilities for multidisciplinary civil purposes. This study is an effort to further enhance the aerodynamic efficiency of MUAVs through a parametric study of the wing and proposing an innovative bioinspired wing design. The research is conducted utilizing numerical simulation and experimental validation. This research provides a better understanding of different wing parameter(s) effect on the aerodynamic performance of the wing and mini unmanned aerial vehicles. A new wing configuration is designed, implemented and evaluated. The wing is named as Alpine since it is inspired by biomimicry of alpine swift bird. Evaluation of the new wing geometry shows that the Alpine wing geometry performs 35.9% more efficient compared to an existing wing with similar wing area. Hence, the aerodynamic efficiency optimization is achieved for the Alpine wing which helps to enhance the performance of MUAVs.

Autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles are one of the most important applications in modern technology. Otherwise known drones, these vehicles perform a lot of vital missions and sensitive tasks in scientific discoveries and agricultural and military applications. Drones that are in a network possess the freedom to roam in various directions. The security system of drones plays an important role in performing services. In this paper, a hybrid security system is proposed for drones to protect their data. This detection system is designed to protect autonomous drones from any attack. The proposed approach is implemented in a highway environment scenario. Our experimental results for the security system demonstrate that the proposed approach possesses an outstandingly accurate rate for intrusion detection.

Nowadays, the creation of remotely-piloted aerial vehicles for various purposes is regarded as one of the most relevant and promising trends of aircraft development. FAU "25 State Research Institute of Chemmotology of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation" have studied the operation features of aircraft piston engines and developed technical requirements for motor oil for piston four-stroke UAV engines, as well as a new engine oil M-5z/20 AERO in cooperation with NPP KVALITET, LLC. Based on the complex of qualification tests, the stated operational properties of the experimental-industrial batch of M-5z/20 AERO oil are generally confirmed.
