Studies dealing with the effectiveness of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 11+ prevention program to improve performance outcomes in children aged < 14 years are limited. This study aimed to point out the effects of the application of short-term FIFA 11+ warm-up program on physical performance in young football players. Participants were 36 youth male football players, divided into a FIFA 11+ (n = 19; mean (SD) age: 11.15 (0.79) y) and a control group (CG: n = 17; age: 10.87 (0.8) y) and trained for 4 weeks. Before and after the training period, standing long jump performance, agility, repeated sprint ability, sit and reach, and “30–15” intermittent fitness tests were assessed. A mixed ANOVA showed significant differences between the groups in the standing long jump test (FIFA 11+: 5.6% vs. CG: −1.9%) in favor of FIFA 11+ over CG. Additionally, the FIFA 11+ performance of the Illinois agility test was significantly better compared to the CG performance (FIFA 11+: −1.9% vs. CG: 0.03%). The main findings of this study suggest that just 4 weeks of implementation of the FIFA 11+ improves physical performance compared with traditional warm-up routines in young soccer players.

Objectives: The main aim in the current study was to use a single-subject analysis to profile the physical performance characteristics of individuals within an injured group and a between-group approach to profile the group as a whole. These profiles were then used to inform single-subject and between-group rehabilitation interventions. Methods: Fifty-three (28 with athletic groin pain and 25 non-injured) Gaelic football players (24.8 years±7.1 years; 179 cm±5.5 cm; 79.7 kg±9.2 kg) underwent 3D biomechanical analysis, which was used to measure a series of physical performance characteristics. The non-injured group was used to create a ‘performance database’ to compare the injured individuals, and a between-group analysis was also conducted. The scores from each analysis were used to inform the targets of interventions. Results: The analysis highlighted the variety of profiles that existed across the tested individuals and that these profiles differed from that of the between-group analysis. By analysing individuals in a single-subject approach, detail can be seen that is lost with between-group analysis.

  Objetivo: el objetivo de este estudio fue: i) Caracterizar el perfil del rendimiento físico de los futbolistas con parálisis cerebral (PC) de la selección Chilena de fútbol 7 acorde a su clasificación deportiva (CD) y posición de juego; ii) Analizar la relación entre las variables de rendimiento físico con la CD. Método: Participaron 19 jugadores varones con PC pertenecientes a la selección Chilena de fútbol 7 agrupados según CD (FT1, FT2, FT3) y posición de juego. Se realizaron mediciones de agilidad (AG), capacidad de realizar sprint repetido (RSA), distancia recorrida en la prueba Yo-Yo (D), capacidad de salto con las pruebas Squat Jump (SJ) y Countermovement Jump (CMJ). Resultados: Se encontraron diferencias significativas de acuerdo a las CD donde los jugadores FT3 lograron un mayor rendimiento en las pruebas de AG y D comparado con FT2 y FT1, no así para RSA donde solo fue superior a FT1. Mediocampistas lograron un mayor rendimiento con un tamaño del efecto grande en todas las variables en comparación a las posiciones de defensa y delantero. Se observaron relaciones fuertes y muy fuertes entre todas las variables de rendimiento físico, así también para las relaciones con la CD a excepción de SJ y CMJ. Conclusión: Se deben considerar las características específicas de cada CD de los jugadores con PC en conjunto con la posición de juego y la táctica del equipo en sí misma, conjugando una serie de factores que busquen lograr los más altos niveles de rendimiento físico y deportivo. Objective: The aims of this study were: i) Characterize the physical performance profile of cerebral palsy (CP) football players of the Chilean national team of football 7 a-Side according to the sport classification (SC) and playing position; ii) Analyze the relationship between physical performance variables and the SC. Method: 19 male football players with CP belonging to the Chilean national team of football 7 a-Side participated and were grouped according to SC (FT2; FT2; FT3) and playing position. Measurements of Agility (AG), repeated sprint ability (RSA), the covered distance in the Yo-Yo test (D), jump ability in Squat Jump (SJ), and Countermovement Jump (CMJ) test were made. Results: Significant differences were found according to SC, where FT3 players achieved higher performance in AG and D tests compared to FT2 and FT1, not for RSA, which was only higher than FT1. Midfielder achieved a higher performance with a large effect size in all variables compared with defender and forward positions. Strong and very strong relationships were observed between all the physical performance variables, as well as for relationships with SC except for SJ and CMJ. Conclusion: The specific characteristics of each SC of CP players must be considered in conjunction with the playing position and the team's tactics, combining a series of factors that seek to achieve the highest levels of physical and sports performance.

This study aimed to compare the anthropometric physical performance characteristics of Irish female international footballers at U17, U19, and Senior age groups. Fifty-five (U17, n =24, U19, n =21, Senior, n = 10) female international football players participated in this study. The subjects underwent anthropometric measurements (height and body mass) and physical performance tests countermovement jump (CMJ), reactive strength index (RSI), 10-m, 20-m, 30-m linear sprint, and yo-yo intermittent recovery test level 1 (YYIR1). No significant differences were identified between any age groups for the anthropometric measures of height and body mass. Concerning the physical tests, senior players displayed greater CMJ scores in comparison with the U17 (P = 0.040). Senior players also possessed higher levels of reactive strength with large effect sizes present (ES = 0.83 - 0.92) in comparison to all age groups. No significant differences were identified between any of the age groups across the 10-m, 20-m, 30-m, and rolling 20-m linear speed assessments. Senior players covered the greatest distance in the YYIR1 (P = 0.0001) versus the U19 and U17. These results indicate there was no difference in the anthropometric profile of the age groups assessed. However, differences in physical performance characteristics were present between age groups, thus suggesting improvements in lower limb power and aerobic endurance are achievable in adulthood as players physically mature.

Abstract The world’s greatest professional football players are able to execute effective tactical decisions as well as fulfil various physical demands. However, the degree to which both are associated with greater potential in a football academy is unknown. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate decision-making skill and physical performance as contributing factors to coach potential rankings in an English football academy. Ninety-eight outfield academy players (Foundation Development Phase [FDP] under-9 to under-11 n = 40; Youth Development Phase [YDP] under-12 to under-16 n = 58) participated in the study. They engaged in 45 film-based simulations at two occlusion phases (e.g., the visual display is cut-off at a precise time during an action), firstly “during” and secondly “post” execution, to examine decision-making skill. Participants also completed four fitness tests to examine physical performance. A classification of “higher-potentials” (top third) and “lower-potentials” (bottom third) were applied through coach rankings. Independent t-tests compared the decision-making and physical performance tests. Higher-potentials made significantly more accurate decisions within the “post” phase within the FDP (P < 0.05) and the “during” phase within the YDP (P < 0.05). Additionally, higher-potentials were significantly faster for the 0–30 m sprint in both the FDP and YDP (P < 0.05), with higher-potentials within the YDP also significantly faster in the 0–10 m sprint (P < 0.05) and jumped significantly higher in the countermovement jump (P < 0.05). These findings indicated that greater football potential may be associated with superior perceptual-cognitive expertise and quicker sprint ability in both academy age phases, with a greater discriminatory function within the older cohort.
