The research reported in this paper, looks at the internal processes of Brazilian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) concerning the transport decision. SME represent over 99% of the formal enterprises in Brazil. The sample size was 400 industrial companies (with up to 100 employees) of Brazilian manufacturing sector. The results indicated that shippers do not use transportation as an opportunity to create competitive advantages. In addition, to get the needed services, Brazilian SMEs tend to buy transport services, readily available, without concerns for future transactions and more stringent and systematic criteria for the selection and evaluation of the service.

The inclusion of employees with disabilities in production is an issue that has rarely been addressed by scientists from the manufacturing sector. In this article, we examine to what extent the trend towards Industry 4.0 offers potential for the inclusion of people with disabilities in Production 4.0. First, we examine relevant legal foundations and restrictions in Europe and in more detail in Austria, Italy, and Norway. Next, based on a literature review, we examine which technological aids in the form of worker assistance systems derived from Industry 4.0 can make jobs in the manufacturing sector accessible for people with disabilities. Three types of assistance systems have been examined: sensorial aid systems, physical aid systems, and cognitive aid systems. In a concluding discussion of the results, we finally summarize the implications on management and policies as well as the potential and limitations of identified worker assistance technologies. On the one hand, the study is intended to draw the attention of researchers and industrial companies to new technological possibilities for the inclusion of people with disabilities in production. On the other hand, difficulties and grievances due to the legal foundations are pointed out to stimulate a critical discussion here as well.

As an essential channel to obtain external resources and information, corporate networks have played a key role in enhancing the competitive advantage of firms, especially during the period where most of the high-technology firms in China started to directly seek means other than import technology to boost their competitive advantages. However, there was still ambiguity concerning how exactly corporate networks would affect comparative advantage. This study sought to expose the internal mechanisms among two aspects of corporate networks, namely, the network strength and the network centrality, and competitive advantage. We also examined the mediating effects of the dynamic capabilities and the ambidextrous combination. Managers of 384 high technology enterprises in China were interviewed via telephone calls during the period of January to June 2020. The data were analyzed by utilizing the structural equation method, and the results show that both dynamic capacities and the ambidextrous combination significantly mediate the relationship between corporate networks and firms’ comparative advantage, where the two mediators also had a significant relationship with each other. Moreover, the multigroup analysis also unveiled that the corporate networks had a greater impact on competitive advantage and the ambidextrous combination in the manufacturing sector, while small-sized enterprises and service enterprises would benefit more than others from the improvement in the dynamic capabilities and ambidextrous combination. Our findings fill the gap in the literature and provide useful information to firms in China on how to allocate internal and external resources to enhance their competitive advantages.

Purpose of the article: The article aims at presenting and analysing key changes in the strategic internal control of companies under the pressure of crisis phenomena. The research question is how to adapt the strategic internal control to an evolving crisis through inclusion of control environmental sustainability measures, and strategic model adaptation.Methodology: A qualitative approach has been applied along with the research of larger companies from the brewery sector and small-and medium sized enterprises from the knitted fabrics manufacturing sector in Bulgaria. The study has also taken into consideration some companies’ strategic documents, as well as interviews with companies’ managers. The gathered information has been systematized, compared and evaluated with the help of the “Relative (Competitive) Advantage Matrix” model.Scientific aim: Understanding the impact of changes in strategic internal control on management under the pressure of crisis phenomena.Findings: The analysing of the quasi-control environment and competitive advantages is an important strategic management issue during crises. Competitive advantages derive mainly from the characteristics of the product (or service) that make it better than the products (or services) of competitors and they are associated with changes in the strategic internal control of companies under the pressure of hard times. Conclusions: Strategic internal control has to be adapted to the crisis situation through control environmental sustainability measures, strategic model adaptation and selected competitive advantages. Business processes are changing as a result of crisis times, then the control environment, risk assessments and competitive advantages need to be more detailed and analysed in different aspects. At the same time, the strategic internal control in hard times faces unexpected results, such as a drastic reduction in the incomes, a decrease in retail sales or a drastic increase in online sales. Using the collected information, comparisons can be made to better outline similarities and differences that will point out ways for improvement. This information should be brought to the attention of the personnel of the companies. The change in the activities should not be delayed in time, since information quickly becomes out-dated.

The influence of the state of the Russian economy and the food industry on the solution of problems in strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic commodity producer is indicated. The accumulation of resource potential by industrial sectors is becoming the key in the implementation of restructuring and modernization transformations in the face of crisis processes and expanding constraints. The development of marketing networks presupposes differentiated management of resource adaptation to market challenges in the manufacturing sector, increasing investment in the production and technological base of industries and accumulating the innovative and creative potential of human resources for its implementation in innovative solutions. It is proposed to build a restructuring loop, forming an anti-crisis component as a decompensator of crisis manifestations in the economic space and as a tool for weakening the manifestation of marketing-behavioral myopathy in the business environment. The resource deflector is configured to accumulate resources for various purposes and provides for their involvement in the processes of marketing mimicry in the development of projects for innovative transformations. A model of anti-crisis management of the competitive advantages of enterprises in the production sector of the food industry has been developed, taking into account the mutual influence of factors of the internal and external contours of impacts that determine the nature and scale of restructuring changes.

In recent years, the digital transformation has been advancing in industrial companies, supported by the Key Enabling Technologies (Big Data, IoT, etc.) of Industry 4.0. As a consequence, companies have large volumes of data and information that must be analyzed to give them competitive advantages. This is of the utmost importance in fields such as Failure Detection (FD) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM). Finding patterns in such data is not easy, but cutting-edge technologies, such as Machine Learning (ML), can make great contributions. As a solution, this study extends Hybrid Unsupervised Exploratory Plots (HUEPs), as a visualization technique that combines Exploratory Projection Pursuit (EPP) and Clustering methods. An extended formulation of HUEPs is proposed, adding for the first time the following EPP methods: Classical Multidimensional Scaling, Sammon Mapping and Factor Analysis. Extended HUEPs are validated in a case study associated with a multinational company in the automotive industry sector. Two real-life datasets containing data gathered from a Waterjet Cutting tool are visualized in an intuitive and informative way. The obtained results show that HUEPs is a technique that supports the continuous monitoring of machines in order to anticipate failures. This contribution to visual data analytics can help companies in decision-making, regarding FD and PdM projects.
