In the paper there is considered an algorithm developed on the basis of modified PRAM-model for efficiency increase of parallel computations on specialized computer modules. By means of the efficiency assessment method there were carried out comparative experimental inves-tigations of the algorithm developed. The assessment results of the algorithm for the parallel computation efficiency increase on special computer modules show efficiency increase not less than 2-4 times depending on the number of flows under investigation.

This paper examines the computing power of optical parallel computer systems. We consider the proposed Array of Processors with optical Pipelined Buses (APPB) in particular, where processors communicate with each other via a spanning optical bus. APPB allow simultaneous access by multiple processors to the optical bus through message pipelining, thus overcoming the bottlenecks caused by exclusive access when employing electronic buses. We give an overview of this model of parallel computation, and then examine the computing power of APPB by demonstrating its capability to efficiently emulate the CRCW PRAM model. We show that an APPB is almost as powerful as a CRCW PRAM. That is, an APPB can emulate a CRCW PRAM with only a small degradation in time performance.

At present, there is a lack of regional comprehensive energy multi-dimensional evaluation system and calculation of different quality energy in the energy efficiency evaluation of regional integrated energy system. Based on this, this article carries out research on multi-dimensional energy efficiency evaluation index system and evaluation methods. First, this article form quantifiable evaluation indicators from the aspects of energy supply subsystem energy efficiency, energy conversion subsystem energy efficiency, grid energy efficiency, economic benefits and social benefits, and clarify the calculation methods of each evaluation indicator. Then this article calculate the indicator combination weight. Finally, a multi-dimensional energy efficiency assessment method for a regional integrated energy system is proposed, and an example is used to prove the effectiveness of the method.

Because treatment of diabetic ulcers includes various uncertainties, efficacy assessments are needed and significant. In previous studies, set pair analysis (SPA) has been applied to the efficacy assessments of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that pick out uncertainties related to the development and prognosis of disease. Optimized clinical protocols of SPA improve clinical efficacy. In the article, cloud model (CM) is employed to improve SPA, and a novel efficacy assessment method for a treatment of diabetic ulcers is proposed based on the cloud model-set pair analysis (CM-SPA). It is recommended to replace connection degree (CD) with cloud connection degree (CCD) that the efficacy assessment results are shown as normal clouds. Then, three diabetic ulcers patients treated with TCM made importance assessment by both CM-SPA and AHP based SPA. The comparison of assessment results shows that the CM-SPA is efficacious for the efficacy assessment of a treatment for diabetic ulcers and the results will be more scientific and accurate via CM-SPA.

Taking the Distributed Morphology model as a starting point, this article presents and develops the hypothesis that parallel computations drive some word formation processes. Along the way, some Distributed Morphology assumptions, particularly those concerning contextual allomorphy, are revised. It is argued that event structure is a syntactic head independent of the presence of a vP. Nominalizations in Spanish, which often exhibit verbal thematic vowels between the root and the nominalizing affix, turn out to be an ideal testing ground for theoretical hypotheses.

In view of the ambiguity and randomness of the assessment of earthquake scene rescue performance, this paper proposes an integrated assessment method considering quantitative and qualitative influencing factors from three levels: search, rescue and medical treatment. Firstly, this study constructs an assessment index system of rescue performance at the earthquake scene based on the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) guidelines set by International Search and Response. Secondly, the subjective weights and objective weights of each index were calculated using the hierarchical analysis process (AHP) and cloud model, respectively. The comprehensive weights were calculated using weighted analysis, and the performance assessment results were visually expressed by cloud model images. Finally, the study was applied to an earthquake rescue case with an initial assessment of 4.0065, and its performance was improved by 4.36% when the rescue process was optimized. The assessment results show that earthquake rescue performance can be estimated, and the rationality and effectiveness of the method was validated.

Risk assessment is an effective method of accident prevention and is vital to actual production. To reduce the risk of mining accidents and realize green and sustainable coal mining, a coal and gas outburst risk assessment method based on the improved comprehensive weight and cloud theory is proposed. The proposed method can effectively solve problems of fuzziness and randomness, index weight deviation, and correlation between indexes in risk assessment, as well as improve the accuracy and rationality of assessment. Nine influencing factors that correspond to coal seam occurrence and geological characteristics, coal seam physical characteristics, and gas occurrence characteristics are selected to establish the risk assessment index system of coal and gas outburst. Using the improved group G1 method and improved CRITIC method to obtain the subjective and objective weights, the ideal point method is used to obtain the comprehensive weight. Using the normal cloud model of cloud theory and the comprehensive weight to assess engineering examples 1–2, the No. 3 coal seam of a mine in Shanxi, and the 21 coal seam of a mine in Henan, the risk grade of coal and gas outburst is determined and then compared with the assessment results obtained from the engineering examples and the actual situations of the above mentioned coal seams. The results show that the coal and gas outburst risks of engineering examples 1–2, No. 3 coal seam, and 21 coal seam are of grades IV, IV, II, and IV, respectively. The No. 3 coal seam and 21 coal seam belong to lower and higher risk categories, respectively. The assessment results are consistent with the actual situation of the coal seams, thereby confirming the rationality and accuracy of the proposed method. This study expands the methods of coal and gas outburst risk assessment and facilitates the formulation of effective preventive measures.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to estimate and compare the efficiency of several water utilities using three frontier techniques. Moreover, this study estimates the impact of several qualities of service variables on water utilities’ performance.Design/methodology/approachThe paper utilizes three frontier techniques such as data envelopment analysis (DEA), stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) and stochastic non-parametric envelopment of data (StoNED) to estimate efficiency scores.FindingsEfficiency scores for each methodological approach were different being on average, 0.745, 0.857 and 0.933 for SFA, DEA and StoNED methods, respectively. Moreover, it was evidenced that water leakage had a statistically significant impact on water utilities’ costs.Research limitations/implicationsThe choice of an adequate and robust method for benchmarking the efficiency of water utilities is very relevant for water regulators because it affects decision making process such as water tariffs and design incentives to improve the performance and quality of service of water utilities.Originality/valueThis paper evaluates and compares the performance of a sample of water utilities using three different frontier methods. It has been revealed that the choice of the efficiency assessment method matters. Unlike SFA and DEA, a lower variability was shown in the efficiency scores obtained from the StoNED method.
