Electrocoagulation is a widely used method for treating leachate since it is cost effective and eco-friendly. In the present study, the electrocoagulation process was employed to remove chemical oxygen demand (COD), NH4+, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), turbidity, and color from landfill leachate. At first, lime was used as a pretreatment, then the Fe/Gr and Ti/PbO2/steel electrodes were used, and the optimum electrode was selected. Afterwards, the effects of some variables, including pH, current density, temperature, the inter-electrode distance, and the type of electrolyte were investigated. Results showed that COD, NH4+, TSS, TDS, electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, color, and pH of effluent pretreatment chemical reached 22,371, 385, 884, 21,820 (mg/L), 13.8 (ms/cm3), 1355 (NTU), 8500 (TCU) and 10, respectively (the removal efficiency was 0, 20.37, 32.4, 61.99, 59.18, and 56.6 percent). With the Fe/Gr electrode, the optimal condition was observed as follows: pH of 7.5, current density of 64 mA/cm2, inter-electrode distance was equal to 1.5 cm, temperature at 20 °C, and retention time 2–4 h. Overall, the electrocoagulation with the Fe/Gr electrode was a suitable technology for landfill leachate treatment due to its effectiveness for the removal of both COD and NH4+, with advantageous performance indicators.

Objectives: To explore the indications and surgical techniques for arthroscopic lower trapezius transfer (LTT) with tendon autograft in managing massive irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears (PSRCTs); to validate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of this technique.Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled 23 patients with massive irreparable PSRCTs, admitted to and followed up by the Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang province between July 2020 and April 2021, and treated with ipsilateral LTT and ipsilateral hamstring tendon autograft. The control group consisted of 23 patients with massive RCTs receiving conventional repair procedures within the same frame. Follow-up data at the preoperative visit, and postoperative month 3 were collected to assess the active range of motion, Constant–Murley Score (CMS),American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment Form (ASES), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)shoulder score, visual analog scale (VAS)and the post-operative MRI results, all of which could provide a comprehensive postoperative early efficacy assessment.Results: Three months follow-up visits were completed for all patients, revealing improvements in all aspects compared to the preoperative state, with no complications, such as postoperative infection of surgical sites and nerve injuries of infection and nerve injury. The distribution of active shoulder range of motion of patients and function scores with two types of operation was as follow: angles of flexion and lifting (130.00° ± 31.55° vs. 90.78° ± 19.85°), abduction (123.26° ± 30.47°vs. 85.87° ± 18.74°), external rotation at side (101.74° ± 14.74° vs. 91.74° ± 11.92°), external rotation at 90° abduction (41.52° ± 21.97° vs. 24.57° ±12.60°), VAS (0.74± 0.81 vs. 1.87 ±0.87), CMS(56.3 ± 13.01 vs. 48.30 ± 8.38), UCLA shoulder score (24.04 ± 2.88 vs.20.96 ± 3.47), ASES (72.91 ± 9.99 vs.60.74 ± 8.84). Significantly better improvements were found in the study group on month 3.19 of 23 patients in the study group and 17 of 23 patients in the control group underwent MRI on the 3 months follow up. Retear was found in only one patient who had grade 4 subscapularis tendon injury, However, revision was not performed due to postoperative pain relief and functional improvement.Conclusion: Compared to conventional repair procedures, in the early postoperative period, LTT with tendon autograft could achieve better pain relief, more rapid motor functional recovery, and higher functional scores for massive irreparable PSRCTs.

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Actinic keratosis (AK) is the most common precancerous cutaneous lesion, with risk of progression to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. In the current study, we evaluated the efficacy of 20-MHz high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), as a new treatment modality for AK. <b><i>Materials and Methods:</i></b> Patients with AK lesions (grades I–III) treated with HIFU were included in the study. The clinical assessment was performed 3 months after therapy. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Twenty-one patients (14 men, 7 women) with 108 AK lesions (grades I–III) were included in the current study. Ages ranged from 62 to 85 years (mean 72.6 years). Clinically complete resolution of the actinic damage in the treated area was detected in 72.2% of lesions. Furthermore, 28 lesions (26%) showed a reduction of the AK grade, or partial response, after the therapy. Most of the patients experienced annoying but short pain during the procedure. However, late adverse effects of the therapy, such as hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation and erythema were reported only in a small portion of the lesions. <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> 20-MHz HIFU could be an effective and safe alternative treatment for AK.

(1) Background: The dysbiosis of some cutaneous commensal microorganisms is the trigger factor for the activation of the inflammatory cascade by keratinocytes in many skin disorders. Mesotherapy is an innovative technique for many scalp disorders, with the function of restoring the physiology of the skin. (2) Methods: the antimicrobial, antibiofilm and anti-inflammatory activity of the non-cross-linked HA formulation (Hydro Deluxe, Matex Lab S.p.a., Brindisi, Italy) was investigated against the most common microorganisms of the scalp (Staphyloccoccus epidermis, Staphyloccoccus aureus, Cutibacterium acnes and Malassezia furfur). Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated on an internal 3D model of Reconstructed Human Epidermis (RHE) inserts infected with the strains as pro-inflammatory stimulus. (3) Results and Conclusions: the data collected showed a good antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity against all selected strains. The HA-based formulation did not show cytotoxicity on RHE, either alone or in presence of the infectious stimulus. The analysis of the expression of Interleukin (IL)-8 levels showed an excellent ability to reduce this pro-inflammatory marker. Overall, the efficacy assessment of the formulation supported its potential effectiveness in mesotherapy for the treatment of scalp disorders.

(1) Background: Cosmeceuticals are topical products applied to human skin to prevent skin ageing and maintain a healthy skin appearance. Their effectiveness is closely linked to the compounds present in a final formulation. In this article, we propose a panel of in vitro tests to support the efficacy assessment of an anti-ageing cream enriched with functional compounds. (2) Methods: biocompatibility and the irritant effect were evaluated on reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) and corneal epithelium (HCE) 3D models. After a preliminary MTT assay, normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDF) and keratinocytes (HaCaT) were used to evaluate the extracellular matrix (ECM) protein synthesis, and interleukin-6 (IL-6) and metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) production. (3) Results: data collected showed good biocompatibility and demonstrated the absence of the irritant effect in both 3D models. Therefore, we demonstrated a statistical increase in collagen and elastin productions in NHDF cells. In HaCaT cells, we highlighted an anti-inflammatory effect through a reduction in IL-6 levels in inflammatory stimulated conditions. Moreover, the reduction of MMP-1 production after UV-B radiation was demonstrated, showing significant photo-protection. (4) Conclusion: a multiple in vitro assays approach is proposed for the valid and practical assessment of the anti-ageing protection, anti-inflammatory and biocompatible claims that can be assigned to a cosmetic product containing functional compounds.

In the context of healthcare-acquired infections, microbial cross-contamination and the spread of antibiotic resistance, additional passive measures to prevent pathogen carryover are urgently needed. Antimicrobial high-touch surfaces that kill microbes on contact or prevent their adhesion could be considered to mitigate the spread. Here, we demonstrate that photocatalytic nano-ZnO- and nano-ZnO/Ag-based antibacterial surfaces with efficacy of at least a 2.7-log reduction in Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus viability in 2 h can be produced by simple measures using a commercial acrylic topcoat for wood surfaces. We characterize the surfaces taking into account cyclic wear and variable environmental conditions. The light-induced antibacterial and photocatalytic activities of the surfaces are enhanced by short-term cyclic wear, indicating their potential for prolonged effectivity in long-term use. As the produced surfaces are generally more effective at higher relative air humidity and silver-containing surfaces lost their contact-killing properties in dry conditions, it is important to critically evaluate the end-use conditions of materials and surfaces to be tested and select application-appropriate methods for their efficacy assessment.

Objectives: Aripiprazole is recommended in a dose of 10 and 15 mg/day, with a dose ranging between 10 and 30 mg/day in the treatment of schizophrenia. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the safety profile of Aripiprazole in low dose of 15 mg versus high dose of 30 mg in the treatment of Schizophrenia. Methods: A total of 60 patients (not on treatment) between age 18-60 years of either gender who meet the diagnostic criteria as per DSM-IV classification for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. All patients were randomly divided into two groups on single-blind study criteria. Group-I: Aripiprazole 15 mg once a day, morning dose for 6 weeks. Group-II: Aripiprazole 30 mg once a day, morning dose for 6 weeks. The ESRS includes 12 questionnaire items; each item is rated on a 7-point scale. Efficacy assessment included at baseline and at 6 weeks end study scoring on PANSS, EPRS, and CGI. Results: The total number of patients showed the ESRS (total symptoms) in group-I was 09 patients (35%) out of 26 and in group II, 13 patients (59%) out of total 22 showed the ESRS (total symptoms). In both the groups aripiprazole showed the comparable efficacy by improving overall symptoms in the number of patients. In group I, 20 patients have shown the improvement in overall scores of all scales. In group II, 16 patients have shown the improvement in overall scores in different scales. Conclusions: Aripiprazole is effective in schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders, doses of 15 mg are equally effective as doses of 30 mg, side effects like EPS are more with higher doses of Aripiprazole.
