The studies were carried out in order to assess the parameters of the adaptability of promising pea samples in terms of yield to identify the best genotypes for the conditions of middle Volga region. The work was carried out in 2018-2020 in the central zone of Ulyanovsk region. The object of the research was 10 pea samples, the standard was Ukaz variety. According to the methods of S.A. Eberhart, W.A. Russell, V.V. Khangildina and S.P. Martynova determined the adaptability of breeding samples using the following indicators: coefficient of variation (V%), homeostaticity (Hom), breeding value (Sc), stability index (Sj2), linear coefficient regression (bi), point stability estimate (Hi). On average, over three years of research, the greatest increase in yield, compared to the standard, was noted for Ulyanovskiy yubileiny variety - 0.43 t/ha. The genotypes of Ulyanovskiy yubileiny, Viridis and line 657/14 with the smallest values of the coefficients of variation - 14.6, 22.4, 23.4%, respectively, are attributed to the most stable in terms of the coefficient of variation V. The most valuable in terms of plasticity and stability were the Ukaz variety (bi=1.15 and Sj2=0.02) and line 559/11 (1.14 and 0.00 respectively). Line 621/14 (bi=1.42 and Sj2=0.15) was recognized as an intensive variety with very low phenotypic stability and line 752/14 (1.29 and 0.11 respectively), with a reduced variety. Lines 215/11, 533/14, 657/14 were distinguished by very high phenotypic stability (bi=0,91…1,07, Sj2=0,00…0,03). The highest level of homeostaticity in combination with breeding value was observed in the promising pea cultivar Ulyanovskiy Yubileiny (Hom=15.33 and Sc=1.67) and line 215/11 (Hom=7.74 and Sc=1.22). According to the point assessment of Hi stability, significant advantages were revealed in Ulyanovskiy yubileiny variety (Hi =4.22) and line 215/11 (1.33). According to the sum of the ranks of the six parameters of adaptability, the leading positions were occupied by lines 533/14 (27), 215/11 (32) and promising varieties Ulyanovskiy yubileiny (32), Viridis (32). According to the test results, two samples in 2020 were submitted for state variety testing

1. An analysis has been made of milk records from 13,000 cows bred by artificial insemination in Denmark.2. The herds were divided into three equal groups on the basis of their average production. The variance of yield within herds increased as the average yield increased, but the coefficient of variation declined slightly. The genetic variance was more than five times as large in the high-yielding herds than in the low, and correspondingly the heritabilities in low, medium and high herds were 0·05, 0·15 and 0·22 respectively. These were estimated from the variation observed between progeny groups of the same 152 bulls at each production level.3. No evidence was obtained of any sire-herd interaction for yield, either within or between management levels. The true ranking of bulls for breeding value was apparently the same at all levels.4. The heritability of fat content in the three groups was 0·27, 0·47 and 0·49 respectively, and no evidence of sire-herd interaction was found.5. The contemporary comparison method of assessing A.I. bulls for yield was found to have the accuracy expected in theory.6. These results are discussed in relation to those of other workers with which there are some discrepancies. On our results, a policy of choosing bulls on the basis of their daughters' performance in high-yielding herds should be the most satisfactory way of progeny-testing bulls used in artificial insemination.

Grasses one of the largest families of higher plants, including about 12000 species from 950 genera. The paper presents up-to-date information about the taxonomic composition, geographical distribution and habitat conditions of cereals in the South of the Middle Volga region (within the Penza, Samara and Ulyanovsk regions). studies of Grasses were conducted throughout the southern Middle Volga region, and herbarium collections stored in LE, MOSP, MW, PKM, PVB, etc. were also studied. Agrostology the South of the Middle Volga region are 72 genera (including 2 nothogenera) and 221 species (including 5 nothospecies). In the flora of the Southern Middle Volga region, 20 rare species of Grasses, of which 5 species are included in the Red book of the Russian Federation (2008): Koeleria sclerophylla, Stipa dasyphylla, S. pennata, S. pulcherrima, S. zalesskii; 14 species – in the Red book of the Penza region (2013): Drymochloa sylvatica, Festuca wolgensis, Helictotrichon desertorum, Melica transsilvanica, Scolochloa festucacea, Stipa borysthenica, S. dasyphylla, S. lessingiana, S. pennata, S. pulcherrima, S. sareptana, S. tirsa, S. zalesskii, Trisetum sibiricum; 18 species – in the Red book of the Samara region (2017): Avenula pubescens, Bromopsis benekenii, Catabrosella humilis, Cinna latifolia, Cleistogenes squarrosa, Drymochloa sylvatica, Elytrigia pruinifera, Helictotrichon schellianum, Koeleria sclerophylla, Pholiurus pannonicus, Poa saksonovii, Psathyrostachys juncea, Stipa dasyphylla, S. korshinskyi, S. pennata, S. pulcherrima, S. tirsa, S. zalesskii; 18 species – in the Red book of the Ulyanovsk region (2015): Catabrosella humilis, Cleistogenes squarrosa, Drymochloa sylvatica, Festuca cretacea, F. wolgensis, Helictotrichon desertorum, Koeleria sclerophylla, Leymus ramosus, Nardus stricta, Psathyrostachys juncea, Stipa borysthenica, S. dasyphylla, S. korshinskyi, S. lessingiana, S. pennata, S. pulcherrima, S. tirsa, S. zalesskii. Only Poa saksonovii is endemic to the South of the Middle Volga region; 5 types of Grasses are described from the study area: Festuca wolgensis, Koeleria sclerophylla, K. transvolgensis, Leymus paboanus, Poa saksonovii.

Stable lyophilized ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid (EDTA)-blood haemolysates were applied in an external quality assurance programme (SKZL, The Netherlands) for glycohaemoglobin assays in 101 laboratories using 12 methods. The mean intralaboratory day-to-day coefficient of variation (CV), calculated from the assay of 12 unidentified pairs over a period of 1 year, was 5·2% (range: 0·2–28·7). Forty-seven per cent of laboratories did not meet the criterion of CV < 5%, whereas 68% did not meet the clinically more desirable 3·3–3·6%. Linearity, as derived from the analysis of five combinations of two haemolysates with low and high glycohaemoglobin percentages over 6 months, was excellent (mean correlation coefficient 0·9953; range: 0·9188–0·9999). Analysis of two samples with high and low glycohaemoglobin percentages gave mean interlaboratory coefficients of variation of 10% for one method performed by several laboratories and 22% for all methods performed by all laboratories. It is concluded that the majority of laboratories do not meet the clinically desirable intralaboratory precision and that an unacceptably high interlaboratory precision exists.

Abstract An analytical procedure for determining N4-glucopyranosylsulfamethazine (GPS) in swine livers is described. The sulfamethazine derivative is extracted from the tissues with water. GPS is isolated in sufficient purity for liquid chromatographic determination by a series of adsorption chromatographic procedures. Recovery of the conjugate from spiked swine livers was 82.2% with a coefficient of variation of 4.5%. Evidence is presented suggesting that sulfamethazine in swine livers is transformed to GPS during frozen storage. Two samples of swine liver in which incurred sulfamethazine residues were substantially depleted during frozen storage were analyzed for GPS. The conjugate accounted for 96.2% and 92.2% of the depleted sulfamethazine residues.

Abstract The ultraviolet method for diquat described by Yuen, Bagness, and Myles in 1967 was collaboratively studied with formulations containing 2 lb diquat/gal. A portion of the sample is diluted with an acetate buffer solution and the absorbance is measured at 310 mμ the diquat content is obtained by reference to a standard curve prepared from known diquat concentrations. Single determinations on two samples by thirteen collaborators show an overall coefficient of variation of 2.4%. The coefficient of variation for random error is 1.0%, and for systematic error 1.6%. The method is recommended for adoption as official, first action.

Abstract To test the method of Nesheim et al., 6 samples wert; analyzed in 13 laboratories. The samples encompassed a blank and 5 samples containing one or more ochratoxins in the range 50–200 μg/kg. Two samples were spiked with the 4 ochratoxin standards and 3 were spiked with barley naturally contaminated with ochratoxin A. The confirmation of identity of ochratoxins A and B by preparation of their ethyl ester derivatives was also tested. The average recovery of standard ochratoxin A was 112% at levels of 45 and 90 μg/kg, with a 27.1% coefficient of variation calculated from analysis of variance, one analyst, one replicate. Similar satisfactory results were obtained for the ethyl esters of A and B at a level of 120 μg/kg. The results were unsatisfactory for ochratoxin B and for the esters of A and B at the 60 μg/kg level. The chemical confirmation test was satisfactory for both ochratoxins A and B. The method, including chemical confirmation, has been adopted as official first action as quantitative for ochratoxin A and qualitative for the other toxins.

The aim of the study is to isolate from collection samples of winter triticale the sources of short-stemming and high grain yield for their further involvement in the selection process in the forest-steppe conditions of middle Volga region. The studies were carried out in 2013–2017 on typical gray forest soils. 93 samples of winter triticale of Russian selection, obtained from the collection of All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after N.I. Vavilov. Standard is Bashkir short-stemmed. Weather conditions during the years of study varied significantly. The studied gene pool has a wide genetic diversity in plant height (65 ... 136 cm) and yield (277 ... 579 g/m2). According to the results of analysis of variance, a significant influence of the genotype and year conditions on the manifestation of these characters was established. Plant height and yield depended on both factors and their interaction, but the first trait is determined mainly by the heredity of the varieties (46.1%), and the second - by the growing conditions (61.8%). There was a significant variation in the values of the studied indicators, both by genotypes and by years: the coefficient of intervarietal variation in the average values of the traits of grain yield and plant height for 2013–2017 amounted to 15.0 and 17.2%, respectively, with variation by years 15 , 4 ... 30.7% and 15.1 ... 20.1%, respectively. According to the results of regression analysis, it was found that within the studied gene pool the highest grain yield was formed by samples with a plant height of 86 ... 105 cm. 13 sources of short-stemming with a plant height below 80 cm and 17 high-yielding samples with a yield of 515 ... 579 g/m2 were identified. In these genotypes, the yield excess over Bashkirskaya short-stemmed standard was significant and amounted to 33 ... 97 g/ m2, or 6.8 ... 20.1%. The varieties Tribun, Skif, Kentavr, Sotnik are characterized by the highest breeding value

The aim of the work was to study the basic productive traits of Saanen goats of Latvian selection in the order of their selection value: milk yield, fat and protein content in milk. These traits were investigated in the daughters from different goats-fathers. Materials and methods of research. The study was conducted at "Grandmother’s Goats" breeding farm, Galaiky village, Tetiiv district, Kyiv region on Saanen goats of Latvian selection. From mid-spring to mid-autumn the goats grazed and were kept in a corral. In winter, the goats were indoors on deep litter. Milking was twice a day into milk pipeline, it took place in the milking room with 12 seats. The farm is provided enough by coarse, succulent and concentrate feeds. It is considered that the winter diet of dairy goats is hay, twigs, concentrate feed, root vegetables, and mineral supplements. The primary livestock data of milk production in 41 goats for seven lactations were considered. The basic selection traits were studied in the order of their breeding value: milk yield, fat and protein content in milk. The same traits were investigated in terms of fathers of milking goats. The obtained results were processed statistically by N. A. Plohinskiy (1970). Results of research. The research results show that milk yield of Saanen goats of Latvian selection varied depending on lactation. It was found that the milk production during the 1st lactation was 565 kg, fat content in milk – 3.2% and protein content – 3.0%. Milk yield per lactation tended to increase – from the 3rd to 6th lactation inclusively, as compared with the 1st and 7th. The maximum level of milk yield was during the 6th lactation. The differences in milk yield between the 6th and the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th lactations are significant with the second degree of reliability. Significant coefficient of variation for milk yield (20-35%) gives reason to consider it possible to conduct the selection by this trait. Several other data are presented by T. Orlovskaya. She considers that goats produce maximum milk yield on average after the 3rd parturition. Milking ability of goats after the 5th-6th lactation begins to fall gradually. She also thinks that biological value of milk is reduced with increase in milk yield, namely reduced fat content and, in some cases, changing the taste of milk. Subsequently, the fat content in milk during the 2nd-4th lactations increased by 0.1%, and during the 5th lactation it reached the maximum level – 3.6%. The protein content in the investigated goat milk was small and ranged from 3 to 3.1%. Differences in fat and protein content during all the lactations were unreliable. Ratio of fat content to protein content in Saanen goats’ milk was studied for seven lactations. It was found that the ratio of fat to milk for all the seven lactations did not reach the optimal levels. This is lack of milk quality of the investigated goats. Milk yield, fat and protein content in milk of daughters of four Saanen billy goats were investigated to determine the influence of fathers on the daughters’ productivity. Analysis of milk productivity data for daughters of goats Amors 046062340091, Wicks 030810040238, Priers 0460623640427 and Frends 038028540074 showed that the highest milk yield was in daughters of Amors 046062340091 – 622 kg. Several less milk yield (590 kg) was in the daughters of Frends 038028540074, and the lowest milk yields were observed in daughters of Wicks 030810040238 and Priers 0460623640427. Thus, daughters’ milk yields depend essentially on fathers. At the same time the fat and protein content in the milk of daughters from different fathers is almost identical. This should be taken into account at matching billy goats for breeding stock of goats. In our research of milk yield of daughters from different billy goats there was a significant difference, but protein and fat content in daughters’ milk almost was no different. Thus, the findings don’t always coincide with the data given in the literature. This concerns with the milk production of Saanen goats and its quality (fat and protein content). Earlier, we have shown that Saanen goats’ milk had a little lower density than in Lamancha, Russian, Nubian, Alpine and Megrelian goats. Protein content was at level of 3.85%, or 1.4% greater than in Russian goats’ milk, but 0.15% less than in Lamancha, 1.23% less than in Nubian, 0.4% – in Alpine, and 1.65% ­– in Megrelian goats’ milk. The fat content in goat milk of the compared breeds was also the lowest (by 1.85% than in Lamancha, by 0.79% than in Russian, by 0.97% than in Nubian, by 0.57% than in Alpine and 1.12% than in Megrelian breeds). Also, content of dry milk residue was low (0.67-1.48% less). Despite these differences in milk yield of goats, research in this area should be expanded in order to determine the prospects for further goat breeding of certain breeds. Conclusions. Milk yield per lactation tended to increase – from the 3rd to 6th lactation inclusively, as compared with the 1st and 7th. The maximum level of milk yield was during the 6th lactation. Significant coefficient of variation for milk yield (20-35%) gives reason to consider it possible to conduct the selection by this trait. The differences in the level of milk production of daughters from different goats were revealed that should be taken into account at matching billy goats for breeding stock. In Ukraine goats’ milk yield of different breeds requires further study.

The research was conducted in 2016-2020 in the Ulyanovsk region. The aim was to assess the yield and genotype-environment interaction of varieties and promising lines of spring oats in the Middle Volga region. The source material was 9 varieties and 4 promising lines of oats created in the Ulyanovsk RAS. Contrasting moisture and temperature conditions provided differentiation of the studied material by yield and level of adaptability. Two-factor dispersion analysis revealed significant differences between genotypes in yield, media, and their interaction. The highest average yield among filmy varieties was formed by the Dragun variety (42.7 c/ha), the lowest by Vsadnik (37.0 c/ha). Naked varieties Azil and Griva showed the same yield (24.3 c / ha). The share of influence of environmental conditions (years) was 51.6%, varieties-33.8%. According to GGE biplot analysis, 2016, 2017, and 2020 were characterized by a high differentiating ability, while 2018 was the most representative. A rank assessment based on six adaptive criteria (regression coefficient (bi), stability index (S2 j), coefficient of variation (Vc), Martynov ultrastability (Hi), ultrastability (Hom) and selection value of the variety (Sc) V.V. Khangildin revealed the advantage of Grum (17), Dragun (22), Konkur (18), and Kenter (24) varieties, while Troika (64) had the lowest rank. Evaluation and ranking of genotypes by average yield and stability in different environments using GGE biplot analysis relative to the “ideal” genotype showed that the highest average yield was in the Dragun variety, which also has high stability, and practically corresponds to the «ideal» genotype. Next are the lines 479/11, 549/15, and the varieties Grum and Konkur, which are close to the « ideal» genotype. Less stable is the 537/15 line, which produced yields less than expected in 2016, 2018 and 2019 environments and more in 2017 and 2020. Biplot analysis of the yield of film varieties confirmed the results of the rank assessment for adaptability parameters, adjusting the location in the group of the best varieties.
